Don Anglin PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. - Don Anglin died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000. Graveside service was Wednesday in Hilltop Cemetery. Arrangements were by Pagosa Springs Funeral Options. He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Shamrock, Texas, and had been a resident of San Angelo before moving to Pagosa Springs in 1999. He was a retired electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Masonic Lodge. He was a Methodist. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at RainsSeale Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in Rains-Seale Chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. He was born May 7, 1918, in Temple to Oscar Kelley Jacob and Edna Little Jacob. He married Lela Faye Hoover on Nov. 11, 1941, in Brownwood. He was a cotton buyer in Runnels County for many years. He was a member of Fourth Street Church of Christ and Rowena Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9196. He served in the United States Army during World War II and spent 27 months in a German Prisoner of War camp. Survivors include his wife, Lela Faye Hoover Jacob of Brownwood; two sons, Tom Jacob and wife, Laurie, of Dallas and John Jacob and wife, Shirley, of Austin; and one grandson, Kelley Jacob of Austin. JOHN HENRY MURR BRADY - John Henry Murr, 71, of San Angelo went to be with our Lord at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, following a brief illness. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in Leatherwood Colonial Memorial Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Davis Murr, affiliated with Junction Church of Christ, will officiate. Graveside service will be held in Rest Haven Cemetery with graveside ceremony by Masonic Lodge of Fort McKavett. John Henry Murr was born on April 13, 1929, in San Angelo to Henry and Eva Haley Murr of Fort McKavett. He graduated from Junction High School in 1948 and attended Tarleton State College where he actively participated in track and ROTC. że married Claudine Collingsworth of Brady on Nov. 4, 1950. Shortly after he married, he enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training in Fort Smith, Ark. John Henry served his country as a master sergeant during his tour of duty in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. John Murr was employed by GTE for 33 years and retired in 1989. Throughout his life, he was highly involved in numerous community organizations and clubs. He had served as a church deacon and had coached little league baseball for many years. He was a member of the United Way, Lion's Club and Johnson Street Church of Christ. John was a Master Mason for more than 40 years in the Fort McKavett Masonic Lodge. Mr. Murr was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eva Murr. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Claudine (Dean) Murr of San Angelo; his children, Deborah and Leland Gullatt of Big Spring and Sheila and Adrian Allen of Graham; one sister and her husband, Ella Louise and Ray McGuffin of Menard; one sister-in-law and her husband, Wanda and Jim Cooper of Cloudcroft, N.M.; two granddaughters, Paige Skelton and Adria Barrentos; one grandson, Jeremy Allen; two great-grandchildren, Bransen Skelton and Garrett Skelton; two nieces; one nephew; and many friends. ROLAND WORTH HOWARD SR. Roland Worth "Blackie" Howard Sr. passed from this life on Sept. 5, 2000, at the age of 85. The family will receive visitors at Johnson's Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Portis Ribble officiating. Mr. William "Red" Worley will give the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Blackie was born July 22, 1915, in Arden, Texas, to James Arthur and Carrah Bell Howard. He attended school in Arden, Sherwood and Lake View and graduated from Mertzon High School in 1934. He was a captain of Mertzon's first football team. After graduation he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Upon completion of that service, he returned to Irion County where he worked as a ranch hand before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. Blackie served as crew chief and aerial engineer until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the war, Blackie went to work for the Texas Highway Department in San Angelo. He married Lena Valenti on June 15, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1992 after 45 years of marriage. His career with the highway department lasted until he retired in 1977 after 31 years of service. Blackie was a well-known West Texas golfer. Picking up the game at age 40, he quickly won numerous tournaments with partner Sonny Perez. He played actively until age 80, shooting his age several times. Blackie was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. He was involved actively in all his children's and grandchildren's athletic and educational endeavors. Blackie is survived by one son, Roland Worth Howard II and wife, Cherryl, and one daughter, Kathy Howard, all of San Angelo; two grandsons, Rick Howard and wife, Laura, of San Angelo and James "Jamey" Howard and wife, Jodi, of Fredericksburg; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Kelsey Howard of San Angelo; one sister, Rural Emert of Robert Lee Care Center; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Howard of Sherwood and Myrtle Howard of Mertzon; numerous cousins; and a host of friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elton and Jack Howard. Burial will follow in Mertzon Cemetery. Ray was born June 15, 1943, in San Angelo to Raymond and Jessie Montgomery Clark. Mr. Clark married Shirlee Ann Barnes Nov. 1, 1975. Ray was a lifelong rancher, avid hunter and professional guide in Texas and New Mexico, a wagon boss for West Texas Boys Ranch and team captain of the Ranch Rodeo representing Irion County. He was a member and officer of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol. Ray also was active in the Irion County 4-H Club and the Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup. Ray was a devoted and loving husband, son, father and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Clark; sister, Patricia Jean Bryant; and brother, Joe Ralph Clark. Charles, known by all as Charlie, was born June 7, 1903, in Gatesville, Coryell County, a son of W.B. and Lucy Dankworth. They moved by covered wagon to Bradshaw in 1906, where his parents started their mercantile business. Charlie graduated from Ballinger High School, where he played basketball and baseball. In 1920 their family moved to Ballinger and started the C.O.D. Grocery Store where Charlie worked for 17 years. Then he branched out on his own, farming, ranching, buying and selling. He owned one of the first self-propelled combines in the county and harvested grain locally and all the way to Kansas. He married Anna Helen Fuchs on Nov. 3, 1927, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen. They lived and raised their eight children in the Bethel-Ballinger Community. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, playing dominoes and gardening. He loved to take vegetables to his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Helen; two sons, infant Charles E. Jr., and Charles J. Dankworth; and a grandson, Jay Gregory Goetz. Charles is survived by his children, Laverne and D.J. Goetz of Winters, Doodle Dankworth of San Angelo, Dan and Sheila Dankworth of Abilene, Jeanie and Bud Minzenmayer of Ballinger, Ralph and Sharon Dankworth of Phoenix, Frances and Curtis Adams of Fort Worth and Herbie and Iris Dankworth of Rowena; a daughter-in-law, June Dankworth of Paint Rock; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Dankworth of San Angelo. Roland Worth "Blackie" Howard Sr. passed from this life on Sept. 5, 2000, at the age of 85. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Blackie was born July 22, 1915, in Arden, Texas, to James Arthur and Carrah Bell Howard. He attended school in Arden, Sherwood and Lake View and graduated from Mertzon High School in 1934. He was a captain of Mertzon's first football team. After graduation he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Upon completion of that service, he returned to Irion County where he worked as a ranch hand before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. Blackie served as crew chief and aerial engineer until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the war, Blackie went to work for the Texas Highway Department in San Angelo. He married Lena Valenti on June 15, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1992 after 45 years of marriage. His career with the highway department lasted until he retired in 1977 after 31 years of service. Blackie was a well-known West Texas golfer. Picking up the game at age 40, he quickly won numerous tournaments with partner Sonny Perez. He played actively until age 80, shooting his age several times. Blackie was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. He was involved actively in all his children's and grandchildren's athletic and educational endeavors. Blackie is survived by one son, Roland Worth Howard II and wife, Cherryl, and one daughter, Kathy Howard, all of San Angelo; two grandsons, Rick Howard and wife, Laura, of San Angelo and James "Jamey" Howard and wife, Jodi, of Fredericksburg; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Kelsey Howard of San Angelo; one sister, Rural Emert of Robert Lee Care Center; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Howard of Sherwood and Myrtle Howard of Mertzon; numerous cousins; and a host of friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elton and Jack Howard. Audrey was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Sealy, the youngest of 11 children born to I.R. and Lillie Belle Salyers Massey. She attended school in West Columbia. Audrey married John Guess Jr. on Dec. 14, 1939, in Brady. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1985. After marriage, she and John moved to California where Audrey worked at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, from 1942 to 1951 as a dispatcher for the Navy with the civil service. She and John lived in the San Diego area until John's retirement from civil service in 1961. After retirement they moved to California to Lake Buchanan where they lived for 16 years. They later moved to San Angelo where Audrey did volunteer work at Angelo Community Hospital from 1979 to 1992. After John's death, Audrey traveled on several trips to interesting places. She was a member of Southland Baptist Church. Bob was born Nov. 11, 1926, in San Saba County, the son of Emmett D. Terry and Opal Senterfitt Terry. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. For 25 years, Bob worked in marine construction, building docks and bridges for Brown and Root. He was captain on a derrick barge. On May 5, 1987, Bob and Bonnie Inman were married in San Saba. MARFA - Dr. Ben F. Gearhart Jr. passed away at his home on Sept. 12, 2000. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home. He was born in Fort Worth on Oct. 21, 1916. He attended school in Marfa and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1939 with degrees in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. Dr. Gearhart was first employed by the Texas Sanitary and Livestock Commission. During World War II he served six years with the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Major. Following the war, he opened a veterinary clinic in Marfa and practiced until ranching became a full-time responsibility in both Texas and Montana. Dr. Gearhart served as a Jeff Davis County Commissioner for 17 years. He was a director at the Marfa Production Credit Association from 1958 to 1983 and a director of the Farm Credit Bank of Texas from 1983 to 1986. In addition, he was a director of the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and a vice-president of the Southwestern Livestock Show in El Paso for many years. He and his wife were also founders of the Davis Mountain Trans-Pecos Heritage Association. Dr. Gearhart was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Gearhart Sr., and his brother, Bill Gus Gearhart, and his wife of 59 years, Mary Martha Coffield Gearhart. He is survived by his daughter, Martha Anne Gearhart of El Paso; his son, William A. DOROTHY ROBERTS HORTON Dorothy Roberts Horton, 63, of Mereta went to be with her Lord on Sept. 11, 2000, after a lengthy illness. She was born May 11, 1937, to Gene and Dora Roberts. She was raised and lived in Mereta until her marriage in 1954. During her marriage to Jimmy Horton they and their daughters traveled with the military. When she and her daughters returned to San Angelo she became an licensed vocational nurse. She worked for many years at Shannon Hospital in the nursery and later at Baptist Memorials Nursing Home. She was a member of Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger. Service will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Johnson's Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B.
