He was an aviation engineer in the Air Corps and worked for the Ford Company for 34 years as a service manager. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Lloyd of San Angelo; a brother, C.D. Lloyd of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gilbert Antu Gilbert D. Antu, 79, of San Angelo, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at his residence. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. Bettie Varner MONAHANS Bettie Lou Varner, 72, of Grandfalls, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at her residence. She was born March 26, 1929, in Colorado City and was a lifelong resident of Big Spring. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Eugene Moore BIG SPRING Eugene Moore, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at his residence. There will be no services. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home. He was born May 12, 1929, in Elk Ranch, Ark., and was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He worked for 25 years at Webb Air Force Base with the Army-Air Force Exchange Service. HERRINGTON Our loving Big Mom joined her Lord and Savior Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000. No doubt the angels of heaven rejoiced as did those of her family who preceded her. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Johnsons Funeral Home. Officiating will be grandson-in-law, the Rev. Danny Willis from Odessa, and great-grandson, the Rev. Gerald Blair from Springfield, Mo. Big Mom was born June 14, 1900, in Ridge, Texas, to Volney Sheron and Mary Emma Russell Meeks. She married Bernie Big Pop Herrington on July 5, 1917. He preceded her in death in 1966. Big Mom was a clean-living, hard-working, godly woman. She was known for her wonderful cooking and no one who knew her ever went away hungry. She always had the warmest hugs and the sweetest kisses. She is survived by granddaughters, Louise Mikkelsen and husband, Bill, of Abilene; Irene Blair and husband, Dwain, of San Angelo; Frances Fletcher and husband, Jimmie, of Camp Wood; Barbara Ward and husband, Joe, of San Angelo; Kathey Willis and husband, Danny, of Odessa; grandsons, Larry Herrington and wife, Dixie, of Andrews; Sandy Herrington and wife, Carol, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lynn Massey and wife, Donna, of San Angelo; granddaughter, Donna Dula and husband, Pat, of San Angelo. She also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Randy, Aunt Mary, Aunt Arlene, Judy and Opal; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Her parents, husband, and daughter, Imogene Floyd and husband, Diz; son, Pete Herrington; daughter, Marilyn Whitworth and husband, Glen; son-in-law, Odis Massey; six sisters, two brothers, and one grandson, Max Herrington, preceded her in death. As bad as the drought has been in Texas, the creeks and riverbeds could be filled with the tears shed at Big Moms passing. Big Mom loved us all too good. LOWELL FRANKLIN HANKINS ROCKSPRINGS Lowell Franklin Hankins went to be with the Lord on Oct. 28, 2000. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the First Baptist Church in Rocksprings where he was an active and dedicated member. Arrangements are by Nelson Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Pine Bluff, Ark. to J.L. and Emma Jacks Hankins. The family moved to Texas in 1916, farming in Brownfield and Gorman, before settling in Abilene. Lowell graduated from high school in Abilene where he met his special angel, Sarah Amelia Boutwell. They married in March 1930 and then moved to Rocksprings where they began a lifelong partnership. Lowells love of hard work and quality livestock is evident in the excellent breeding programs of his sheep, goats, cattle and horses. He claimed he was just a sheepherder that happened to raise good horses. Lowell was a lifelong member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He received the AQHAs Legacy Award for being a continuous breeder of quarter horses for more than 50 years in 1997. Along with his brothers, Jess and J.O., they had 34 Hankins Brothers Quarter Horse sales. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, and his brothers, Jess Hankins. He is survived by a brother, J.O. Hankins, of Rocksprings; a sister, Myrl Erwin of Rocksprings; daughters, Louise Morriss of Waco and Lorelei Hankins of Rocksprings; grandchildren, Shelley Brookes and husband, Jim, of Waco, Molly Cook of Sonora, Lucy Dingel and husband, Jim, of Coppell, Kay Stewart and husband, Eddie, of Ozona, Cliff McMullan and wife, Susan, of Iraan; great-grandchildren, Marcus Brooks and wife, Jenna, Wesley Brooks, Sarah Cook, David Cook, Grant Dingel, Lana Stewart, Jake Stewart, Jess McMullan and Lucas McMullan.
