Services are pending at Geeslin Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries MARGARET LEE ISAACS WILLIAMS ELDORADO - Margaret Lee Isaacs Williams, 95, of Eldorado died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in the Schleicher County Nursing Home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, in Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home. Maggie Lee was born Oct. 15, 1905, in Lohn. Her father and mother, Will L. and Isabella Finlay Isaacs moved in a covered wagon, moving cattle also, to Schleicher County when Maggie Lee was 10 days old. Mrs. Isaacs drove the wagon with Maggie Lee in her lap. Later, Maggie Lee, her three brothers, little sister and parents moved from the Tom Henderson Ranch to the old Cook Ranch in the Twin Wells school district. Maggie Lee, Robert and Willie and the Hinyard children, Paul and Elizabeth rode horseback across the pasture to the Twin Wells School. Later, Maggie Lee, Robert, Willie and Leonard had governesses for the next three years. Their first governess was Agnes West, the first white child born in Schleicher County after the county was organized. Rachel Page was the second. Maggie Lee's parents, with Ruf Hinyards' help, moved the old Cook house three and one half miles east, across the pasture (with mules) on wagon wheels to be in the Adams school district. Maggie Lee and her siblings spent the next three years (until she was in the eighth grade) riding horseback to Adams School, better known as ``Red Bud College.'' When Maggie Lee was ready for high school, her family moved to Eldorado. She went to Eldorado High School and graduated in 1926. Then she attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood for two and one half years. Maggie Lee and Otto Williams were married June 1929. They spent their honeymoon in the new Cactus Hotel in San Angelo. Maggie Lee and Otto moved to a three section ranch on the Toe-Nail Trail in northeast Schleicher County. Later they acquired three more sections from the Jacksons and the Akes. This is where they resided until Otto became ill and they moved back to Eldorado. Maggie Lee was truly a rancher. She rode horseback, went hunting and was a perfect shot, and ran the ranch for many years. Maggie Lee was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and her husband. She is survived by her sister, Isabella Isaacs McCutcheon of Eldorado, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family requests memorials be made to a church of choice or a favorite charity. RALPH E. GREGORY Ralph E. Gregory, 87, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord at 5:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in a local hospital. Ralph was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Grove Hill, Ala. He was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Air Force in France and at Malmstrom Air Force Base and Goodfellow Air Force Base from 1939-1959. He married Eva Louise King on Oct. 10, 1942, in Tucson, Ariz. Ralph was a member of Edmund Boulevard Baptist Church. Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eva Louise Gregory, who died Nov. 21, 1998. He also was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Hunter Pederson who died March 10, 1999. EMIL PHILLIP KVASNICKA BALLINGER - Emil Phillip Kvasnicka, 91, of Rowena died Saturday evening, Nov. 18, 2000. He was born Feb. 9, 1909, in Bohemia, which was a small Czech settlement on the Mertzon road. His parents were Vaclav and Mary Kaucky Kvasnicka. The family soon moved to Rowena where they settled on a farm. Emil attended St. Joseph Catholic School and became a farmer at a very young age. When terracing became popular, he started a business terracing land for farmers in the surrounding communities. He was very active in SPJST Lodge No. 49, holding various offices through the years, learning the insurance business and selling their policies. He also belonged to the local RVOS, Lions Club and Woodmen of the World. Emil enjoyed his travels to five countries in Europe, including the Czech Republic, to visit relatives. He made further trips to South America, Hawaii and the Caribbean. He celebrated his 90th birthday while residing at the Heritage Oaks Estate in Ballinger and waltzed to the music of the Squeeze Box Sisters, as music and dancing were two of his favorite enjoyments. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Pioneer Memorial Park in San Angelo. He was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Abilene. He grew up in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School. He attended Howard College and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He began his funeral service career working for Coy Nalley and J.C. Pickle. He later worked at funeral homes in Carrollton, Jacksonville and Sweetwater. In 1985, he and Bill Myers established Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Smitty had owned Baskin-Robbins in Big Spring from 1975 until 1985. He was currently area manager for the Mission Plan Life Insurance Co. He was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. He was an active member of the Howard County Fair Board for 10 years, serving two years as president. His hobbies were fishing, antiques, garage sales, gardening, and especially his grandsons. He married Gay Gates Feb. 24, 1968, in Stanton. There will be no funeral or burial service. Archie donated his body to the medical students at the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry, Anatomical Service in Lubbock. After research his body will be cremated and his ashes scattered by members of his family. Archie was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Comanche, Texas, to David Fulmer and Jennie (Carter) Carmichael. After graduating from Comanche High School in 1938 he started to work for Higgingbotham Bros. and Co. in Comanche as a sales person. After leaving Comanche he went to work for Zachry Construction Co. out of San Antonio helping build Camp Bowie in Brownwood. After completion of Camp Bowie he started to work for C.R. Anthonys in Brownwood. In 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Force at Dodd Field in San Antonio. Later he was stationed at Concho Bombardier School in San Angelo and served flight dispatcher. In September 1945 he was transferred to Ellington Field in Houston and worked in the Separation Enlisted Personnel Department. When the war was over he was transferred to Fannin, Texas, and there he received his discharge on March 8, 1946. After leaving the military, Archie went to work at Barnes & Company as a shoe salesman. He worked at this location for 26 years until Barnes sold out to Hemphill-Wells. He worked for Hemphill-Wells downtown 12 years and in 1974 transferred to Hemphill-Wells in the mall as manager of the shoe department. He worked in the mall until Hemphill-Wells sold out to Dillards. In 1992, he went to work for The Bootery in the Village Shopping Center. He worked at this location up until the time of his retirement. As a shoe salesman Archie was well known in West Texas for his courtesy to his customers. It was his pleasure in serving the public. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. Archie was a member of the American Legion and All Veterans Council. Survivors include his wife, Melba Carmichael, one daughter, Charlotte Theis and her husband, Robert Elton, twin sons, Robert Carmichael and Herschel Carmichael and his wife, Sandy, all of San Angelo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Natalie Tillery, Leslie Vaughn and her husband, John, Amanda, Chad, Jamie and Christopher Carmichael; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Lainey Vaughn. GEORGIA DICKIE FERRO Georgia Dickie Ferro passed from this life at her beloved ranch home on Nov. 24, 2000. In recent years Dickie had taken enormous pride and pleasure in restoring and establishing historic designation of her grandparents, O.W. and Mildred Parkers home and ranch near Iraan. Dickie graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and went on to study jewelry design and Spanish at Mills College in California. She and her mother, Meda Johnston, established residence in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and returned to San Angelo in 1975. Dickie used her artistic attributes and entrepreneur abilities to establish and operate the Parker Ranch Bed and Breakfast. Dickie is survived by her son, Richard Ferro of Dallas; aunt, Vera Dell Allen of Sterling City; uncle, Colton Parker of Rankin and numerous cousins. LORIN SLIM LOLLAR Lorin was born July 27, 1901, in Eola, Texas, to Asher L. and Leona Lollar. His family was the first settlers in Eola and their first home was a half dugout located southeast of Eola. He graduated from high school in 1917. He went to Dallas and was a private detective for the railroad. He left Dallas for Kansas where he studied mechanics at Ray Swiney College in Kansas City. Ray Swiney was a three-story building where students were taught all about tractors, automobiles and airplanes. He graduated from college in 1926. Lorin opened a mechanics shop in San Angelo on Avenue K until World War II. In World War II, Lorin first worked in civil service at Mathis Field in San Angelo and later transferred to Kelly Field (Kelly Air Force Base) in San Antonio. He was the head mechanic at Kelly Field and started a carburetor assembly line to decrease the ground time of airplanes while being repaired. Because of his critical position, Lorin was required to serve overseas. After repairing a plane, the mechanic was required to fly in it with the test pilot. Uncle Lorin said, You made sure you fixed it right! This enabled Lorin to earn his wings. After the war, Lorin resumed his mechanics business and opened Lollars Garage on Chadbourne Street in San Angelo. One day a friend of Lorins, Mr. Henry Buckmaster, came into his shop to tell Lorin that he was moving his daughter, Winona, into town. Mr. Buckmaster said, Lorin, check in on her and take good care of her. Shortly after that, Lorin and Nonie began courting and were married on June 17, 1939. Lorin spent the next 53 years taking good care of her. During their married years, Lorin and Nonie enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. They especially enjoyed Las Vegas and fishing in all of the national parks. Lorin often spoke of driving through the giant redwoods in California and of seeing Alaskan Dog Sled Races. Lorin and Winona were charter members of the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in San Angelo. Lorin is survived by two sisters-in-law, Era Babe Lollar of Fredericksburg and Mary Ellen Green of Lawton, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and their spouses. Special nieces are Illene Clark and husband, Bill, of San Angelo, Clarene Barr and husband, Kenneth, of Millersview, Sue Pfeiffer and husband, Arvid of Veribest. BETTY JEAN WILLIAMS Betty Jean Williams, 58, a lifelong resident of San Angelo has been called home. The Lord called on her Friday, Nov. 24, 2000. Betty was born July 21, 1942, in San Angelo to Ms. Earnestine Cole and Mr. Jeff Coulter. She was employed by Ethicon Inc. for more than 30 years and was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Betty was preceded in death by her father and grandmother, Ms. Pinkie Cole. Her survivors include her mother, Earnestine Cole; one daughter, Angelia L. Grimmage of San Angelo; two sons, Donald E. Bridges of Odessa and Ronald E. DAVID BUTCH PIEL BALLINGER David A. Butch Piel, 59, of Ballinger died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Abilene Regional Hospital. Butch was born March 14, 1941, in Ballinger, Texas, to David W. and Tillie Sturm Piel. He was a truck driver for Ballinger Ready Mix for many years and served with the Texas National Guard. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Alice St. John. Butch is survived by his mother, Tillie Piel Moseley of Ballinger; two brothers, Gene Ray Piel and his wife, Mary, of Del Rio and Larry Piel and his wife, Glenda, of Bangs; two sisters, Irene Batts and her husband, David, and Janice Kurtz and her husband, Randall, all of Ballinger; nieces and nephews, Amy Batts, Mac and Bridgett St. John, Jason and Darci Piel, Carrie Aguirre, Jeffrey Piel and Jessica Piel; a great-niece, Mandee St. John; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Rohmfeld. LORIN SLIM LOLLAR Lorin Slim Lollar, 99, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000. Lorin was born July 27, 1901, in Eola, Texas, to Asher L. and Leona Lollar. His family was the first settlers in Eola and their first home was a half dugout located southeast of Eola. He graduated from high school in 1917. He went to Dallas and was a private detective for the railroad. He left Dallas for Kansas, where he studied mechanics at Ray Swiney College in Kansas City. Ray Swiney was a three-story building where students were taught all about tractors, automobiles and airplanes. He graduated from college in 1926. Lorin opened a mechanics shop in San Angelo on Avenue K until World War II. In World War II, Lorin first worked in civil service at Mathis Field in San Angelo and later transferred to Kelly Field (Kelly Air Force Base) in San Antonio. He was the head mechanic at Kelly Field and started a carburetor assembly line to decrease the ground time of airplanes while being repaired. Because of his critical position, Lorin was required to serve overseas. After repairing a plane, the mechanic was required to fly in it with the test pilot. Uncle Lorin said, You made sure you fixed it right! This enabled Lorin to earn his wings. After the war, Lorin resumed his mechanics business and opened Lollars Garage on Chadbourne Street in San Angelo. One day a friend of Lorins, Mr. Henry Buckmaster, came into his shop to tell Lorin that he was moving his daughter, Winona, into town. Mr. Buckmaster said, Lorin, check in on her and take good care of her. Shortly after that, Lorin and Nonie began courting and were married on June 17, 1939. Lorin spent the next 53 years taking good care of her. During their married years, Lorin and Nonie enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. They especially enjoyed Las Vegas and fishing in all of the national parks. Lorin often spoke of driving through the giant redwoods in California and of seeing Alaskan Dog Sled Races. Lorin and Winona were charter members of the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in San Angelo. Lorin died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000. Lorin is survived by two sisters-in-law, Era Babe Lollar of Fredericksburg and Mary Ellen Green of Lawton, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and their spouses. Special nieces are Illene Clark and husband, Bill, of San Angelo, Clarene Barr and husband, Kenneth, of Millersview, Sue Pfeiffer and husband, Arvid of Veribest. Lorin was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Winona Lollar; his parents Asher L. and Leona Lollar; five brothers and two sisters, Oliver, Walter, Willie, Arthur (Tot) and J.T. Lollar, and Lozie Dixon and Zelar Stone. Pallbearers will be Arvid Pfeiffer, Kenneth Barr, Bill Clark, Don Buckmaster, Kenneth Harper, Wendell Radford, Edwin Forehand, Steve Forehand and Tommy Lollar.
