Worley was born on April 15, 1915, near Miles in Runnels County, the son of Oscar B. and Maude Campbell. He was the youngest of four children; a half brother, Justus Pool; a half sister, Ollie Lee Pool; and brother, Paul Campbell. All four children picked cotton on their farm on the Concho River east of San Angelo until they were old enough to work elsewhere. Worley spent his teen years as a ranch hand on the Door Key Ranch at Christoval on the Toe Nail Trail. His brother, Justus helped him discover his musical abilities early in life. Worley learned to play the harmonica and the guitar at the young age of 5. These talents followed him the rest of his life. Prior to World War II, Worley opened a music studio in Alexandria, La., called the Honolulu Conservatory of Music, where he taught Hawaiian steel guitar method. At the same time, he had a radio show playing tunes on the steel guitar. At the outbreak of World War II, Worley sold his studio to one of his students and joined the Air Force. His travels in the service took him to London, England, where he met a young British lady, Rosa Mary Greatrex. After a brief courtship they were married Oct. 24, 1945. As the war concluded, Worley and Mary settled in San Angelo. Worley went to work for Goodyear Tire Test where he stayed for 28 years before retiring. It was in a small home on the southeast side of San Angelo that they raised their six children. Worley was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and a strong provider for the family. On his retirement from Goodyear, Worley and Mary moved to East Texas outside a little town called Wills Point on Lake Tawakoni. After Mary passed away because of cancer a few years later in January 1986, Worley once again took to his music to help pass the time. He played the steel guitar in a band made up of senior citizens called the Sue Hair Band (which later changed names to The Merrymakers). They entertained and played for dances at several nursing homes in the area. Their band brought much joy to many people. It was through his involvement with the band that he met Margaret Stanford. The two moved to Garland, where they remained companions for many happy years. Worley was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mary Campbell; his eldest daughter, Davina K. Dixon; both of his parents, Oscar B. Campbell and Maude Sylvia Barnett; also his half brother, Justus Pool; and brother, Paul B. Campbell. Worley is survived by his half sister, Ollie Lee McGaughey of Leander; his youngest daughter, Brenda Mary Chesser of Arlington; his eldest son, Jim Campbell and wife, Molly, of Coppell; his twin sons, Bud Campbell of San Angelo and Gary Campbell of Laredo; his youngest son, David Campbell and wife, Judy, of San Angelo; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews. Worley Campbells love for life along with his musical talent combined to bring much joy during his long life. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Trull officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Heavenly Father take into your arms the soul of this man who was such a caring, loving husband and father to us here on earth, so that we may meet again one day and rejoice in heaven. In Jesus name. I gave you my Love; you can only guess How much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the Love you each have shown, But now it is time I traveled alone. So, grieve awhile for me if grieve you must; Then let your grief be comforted by trust. Its only for a while that we must be apart So keep the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for Life goes on; So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cant see me, touch me, Ill be near. And if you listen with your heart, youll hear. All my love around you soft and dear And then when you must come this way alone, Ill greet you with a smile and say, Welcome Home. Worley was born on April 14, 1915, near Miles in Runnels County, the son of Oscar B. and Maude Campbell. Im following the path God has laid, you see. I took his hand when I heard Him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day. To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys, A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things I, too, will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief, Dont lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. God wanted me now; He set me free!
