Lisso of Rowena went to her heavenly reward on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in San Antonio. She was born June 28, 1906, in Oklahoma. Her family moved to Texas in 1908 and she spent the rest of her life in Concho and Runnels counties. She served as officer in charge of the Lowake post office for a number of years. She also had been active in farming, ranching and several businesses. Flora was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Eola and was noted for kindness, wisdom and optimism. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed dancing and playing cards with her devoted friends. She is survived by three children, Finley Lisso of La Puente, Calif., Norma Hutchison of Austin and Florine (Flo) Jameson of San Antonio. She also is survived by a son-in-law, David K. Jameson, M.D. of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Norma Lisso of Pflugerville and Ruth Massey of Austin. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in RainsSeale Chapel with the Rev. ANNE GENEVA TAIANI HORTON Anne Geneva Taiani Horton, 70, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2001. Anne was born Feb. 19, 1930, in West Helena, Ark. She had lived in San Angelo for 28 years and loved to travel and see her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, George W. Horton; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Betsie Taiani of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Patrice Taiani of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Angela Taiani, Starr Taiani, Matthew Taiani, Zoe Taiani and Christine Miller; and sister, Hazel Green of Lakewood, Colo. DONALD JOHN WELCH Donald John Welch, 68, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Shannon Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1932. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Service will be officiated by Pastor Sid Thompson with prayer and special scripture readings by Chaplain Kenneth Patrick, Pastor Ray Thompson and Pastor Marvin Gilley. Mr. Welch served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1952 through November 1956. He then worked for the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier for 35 years. He served as secretary-treasurer for the NALC Union from 1976-1996. Upon his retirement in 1992 he worked for Baptist Memorials Center. Donald was a football official for 25 years, which he truly enjoyed along with bowling, fishing and spending time with all of his family. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served on the council for many years. Donald married Betty Jean Coats on Feb. 5, 1955. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Jean Welch; three daughters, Patty Robbins and husband, Rocky, Barbara Welch and Carol Cooper and husband, Alan, all of San Angelo; one son, Donald Welch and wife, Diane, of Grapevine. He also is survived by nine grandchildren, Robert and Melinda Robbins, Curt Martin, Shane and Misty Burke, Kelli and Brad Cooper and Erica and John Welch; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray, 81, of San Angelo died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at San Angelo Medical Center. Nath was born Dec. 12, 1919, in San Angelo to John Robert and Ollie E. (Alsup) Ray and was a lifetime resident. Nath served from 1941-1945, as a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and worked at Mathis Field and Goodfellow Air Force Base. Nath was a member of Ninth and Main Street Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and elder for many years. He worked as an auto parts salesman for 38 years and retired in 1990 after 20 years with Concho Supply. Nath was married to Odessa Brothers on Aug. 18, 1942, in San Angelo. Nath was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his daughter, Merry Ellen Britt. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Odessa Ray of San Angelo; two sons, Louis Lloyd Ray of Carrollton and James R. Ray and wife, Suzy, of Midland; two grandsons, Darby Britt of Maryland and Landon Ray of Kingwood; two granddaughters, Laura Cairns of Ohio and Lindsey L. DEAN ADAMS NEW BRAUNFELS In loving memory of Milton Dean Adams, MD, born Jan. 22, 1931, and passed away Jan. 29, 2001 He was a great and glorious physician, a beloved husband, a wonderful father and a loving grandfather. During his journey on earth, Dean Adams touched many lives by his love for others, compassion, enthusiasm and healing hands. Dr. Dean Adams was born in San Angelo, Texas, and graduated from San Angelo High School. He attended Southern Methodist University as a pre-med major, joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and graduated in 1952. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston where he was a member of the Phi Chi fraternity. Dr. Adams interned at Kansas City General Hospital followed by two years as an American naval officer in Yuma, Ariz. He did a family practice residency in Alexandria, La. He established a general family practice in New Braunfels, Texas, from 1963-1992. His organization memberships included McKenna Hospital Board, Chase National Bank, Comal Medical Society, American Cancer Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Family Practice Association, Mensa Society and the American Legion. He volunteered in the New Braunfels Mentor Program, Hospice New Braunfels and VIM-A (medical mission program). He also was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a past member of Noon Lions Club of New Braunfels. He had plans to participate in the CASA program to protect abused children. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Adams, and stepfather, Jack Price. He is survived by the love of his life, Zelda Adams. He also is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Larry Hookman; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Terri Adams; six grandchildren, Nathan Hookman, Aaron Hookman, Adam Hookman, Daniel Hookman, Sarah Adams and Luke Adams; mother, Willa Price; stepmother, Ruby Lee Adams; brothers, Joe Hobbs and Robert Adams; sister, Carrie Donaldson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Although he faced many challenges in his life, he faced them all with courage and dignity. During his earthly journey, he considered death a passage to eternal life with Christ. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific area where he participated in operations against the enemy on Peleliu and Pelair Islands. Our brother and uncle was a quiet-spoken man who loved the simple things in life home, country music, children, good food, his family and friends. He worked as a television and radio repairman. Howard was born July 13, 1933, in New Orleans to Harry and Grace Calahan Whitworth. He married Marie Capps on Oct. 11, 1985, in Garden City. An Army veteran and former D.E.A. agent, he served as assistant district attorney in Nacogdoches and Odessa. Howard retired from the San Angelo District Attorneys office. Survivors include his wife, Marie Whitworth of San Angelo; a daughter, Lynne Dom of Houston; two stepsons, Timothy Sundermann of Tucson, Ariz., and Craig Sundermann of Waco; a stepdaughter, Vicki Garrett of Houston; his mother, Grace Whitworth of El Paso; two brothers, Harry Whitworth of El Paso and Jim Wafer of Marble Falls; a sister, Jeanne Cline of El Paso; seven granddaughters; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the San Angelo Police Honor Guard. ORVIL AARON FARMER Orvil Aaron Farmer, 75, of San Angelo died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in a local nursing home. Mr. Farmer was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Water Valley on the Turner Ranch where his father was a ranchhand. His parents were Robert Edwin and Sophia Lockhart Farmer. A veteran of World War II, he was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, enlisting on Dec. 22, 1942, at the age of 17. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific area where he participated in operations against the enemy on Peleliu and Pelair Islands. Our brother and uncle was a quiet-spoken man who loved the simple things in life home, country music, children, good food, his family and friends. He worked as a television and radio repairman. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wade, Eugene, Crawford, J.D. and Archie Farmer; and a sister, Lorraine Farmer Camper. He also was preceded in death by nephew, Archie Farmer Jr.; nieces, Anita Farmer and Nell Jackson; and longtime companion, Dora Speers. Survivors include two sisters, Edith Farmer Ussery of Austin and Irene Farmer Brunson of Kerrville; and sister-in-law, Nellie May Farmer of San Angelo. Surviving nieces and nephews are Jeanne Jackson, Dwain Farmer and Mark Brunson, all of San Angelo, Robert Brunson of Kerrville, Vannette Davis and Annette Foradory of Austin, Jenny Hall of Pflugerville, Amanda Hardy of Flint and Pat Puckett of Tyler. Earl Killian, 77, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. He was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Farmerville to Charles and Fay Killian. His family moved to Alice six years later where he graduated from Alice High School in 1941. He moved to San Angelo in 1942 and married Goldia Green of Mereta in 1943. That same year he began a 53-year career in the neon and plastic sign business. He served a 20-year membership in the Civil Air Patrol, where he rose to the rank of major. In 1959 he received the D. Harold Byrd Award as the most outstanding C.A.P. member in the United States. More important to him was his direct influence and guidance of no less than six Civil Air Patrol cadets who were appointed to the U.S. Military Service Academies. Earl and Goldia moved to Victoria in 1981 where he continued in the sign business with a local company striving to serve his customers and community with honor and integrity. He retired in 1996 refusing to be associated with less. Mr. Killian was preceded in death by his wife in 1983. He is survived by his four grateful children; James Earl Killian of Johnson City, Tenn., Sherry Jean Ellis of Victoria, Toyah Beth Martin of Kerrville and Judy Kay Gray of Beeville. He was loved and will be missed by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Papa. Earl will be most remembered for his honesty and generosity to many in need. She and her husband moved to Slaton in 1959 and Lubbock in 1960 where she lived until January 1995 when she moved to Snyder. She was a dietitian at Texas Tech University from 1959 to 1971. Mrs. Westbrook and her husband were members of Southcrest Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and he was a deacon. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1971. Mrs. Westbrook organized a homebound Sunday school class and was also a past worthy matron of an Eastern Star Lodge in Lubbock. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Frank Miller of Snyder; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Mary Ann Westbrook of Stephenville; a sister, Bill Mae Payne of Fort Stockton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Munn was the last survivor of six brothers and one sister born to Neill Wayne and Augusta Munn. He was born Feb. 11, 1901, in Burnet County, Texas. He passed away Sunday night, Feb. 4, 2001, just one week short of celebrating his 100th birthday. Carl moved from Burnet County to Sterling County with his family when he was 1-year-old in 1902. He attended a little one-room school located on the divide in Sterling County until ready for high school when he attended school in Sterling City. He spent two years at Howard Payne College in Brownwood and then attended Texas A&M University at College Station for three more years. He left school and married his first wife, Kathleen Turner, and they moved to a ranch near Water Valley. Kathleen died in 1975 and Carl married Agnes Wright Pontius in 1976. They resided at the ranch until 1995 when Carl went to the Sterling County Nursing Home at the request of his doctor. Carl had fallen at the ranch and broken both femurs. Agnes continued to reside at the ranch until 1998 when she moved to San Angelo. Carl was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley, Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers, Texas Cattlemans Association, Shriners, Scottish Rites of Lubbock, and Suez Temple in San Angelo. Carl was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister, and leaves a loving wife, Agnes, of the home. Also family remaining includes a sister-in-law, Mabel (Sug) Montgomery; nephew, C.A. Doose and wife, Cindy; a greatnephew and great-niece, Christopher Doose and Nicole Doose; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He has a nephew R.A. Canning of New Mexico. She was born March 15, 1920, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to Dutch and Donnie Cowley. She moved with her family to the West Texas community of Forsan where her father worked in the oil industry. Kathryn graduated from Forsan High School in 1937 and married Jimmy Hagar, a salesman for Safeway Grocery, on Feb. 11, 1939. In 1940, they moved to Pecos where they reared their three daughters and owned and operated the Hagar Brothers and Nik-Nak grocery stores. They were active members of the First Baptist Church and civic organizations. In 1982, Kathryn moved to San Angelo where she lived for many years at the Christian Village Retirement Center and worked at the hospitality desk until September 2000. The legacy Kathryn passes to her daughters, grandchildren and extended family is abiding faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, loving devotion to family and integrity. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; her parents; her two brothers, Kenneth and Bob Cowley; her nephew, Bobby Cowley; and son-in-law, Don Sanders. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Hagar Sanders of San Angelo, Martha Sue Suzy Hagar of Dallas and Jimmy Ann Hagar Thompson and her husband, Todd, of Grapevine; four grandchildren, Ron Sanders, Jim Sanders, Jeff Sanders and Avery Hagar Thompson; three granddaughters-in-law, Juli Sanders, Dawn Sanders and Donna J. Sanders; five great-grandchildren, Austin Sanders, Emily Kathryn Sanders, Gatlin Bates, Suzannah Sanders and Grant Sanders; sisters-in-law, Betty Cowley, Evelyn Cowley and Helen Hagar; nieces and nephew, Martha Ann Williams, Brenda Cowley and Steve Cowley; and many dear friends. Mary lived a fruitful life of service and dedication to the Lord and his church. She graduated from Latin American Bible School in Saspamco, Texas, in 1937 and immediately entered full-time ministry with her husband, serving faithfully for more than 47 years in active pastorates in New Mexico, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado and Texas until their retirement in 1983. They pioneered and established churches during their early years of ministry. Mary was an avid Bible reader and prayer intercessor. She loved teaching children and since her early ministry years, loved ministering to the elderly. She served as Womens Ministries leader in the San Angelo Section of the Assemblies of God. Grandma Mary had many craft skills. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and she passed these skills to her granddaughters and great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by her family and Christian friends. She had a sense of humor and always was making her family laugh. Her tender heart and kindness touched the lives of many. The family wishes to thank the many friends who expressed their love through the beautiful flowers, food, phone calls and visits. Memorial service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Johnsons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Meyers officiating. Linda was born Sept. 3, 1940, in Robert Lee to Wayne Harley and Freddie Myrtle Burroughs. She was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church and was employed by the Tom Green County Appraisal District. Linda was married to Tommy Lee Moyer on Sept. 1, 1979, in San Angelo. One son, Kurt Richardson, preceded Linda in death on April 23, 1985. Survivors include her husband, Tommy Moyer of San Angelo; three children, Marc Richardson of Houma, La., Letisha Alexander of Austin and John Moyer of Austin; three grandchildren, April Richardson of Kingsland, Sarah Richardson and Christopher Richardson, both of San Angelo; and two brothers, John Burroughs of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ronald Burroughs of Sugar Land.
