Safely Home I am in heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever. Safely home in Heaven at last. Did you wonder I so calmly Trod the valley of the shade? Oh! but Jesus love illumined Every dark and fearful glade. And He came Himself to meet me In that way so hard to tread; And with Jesus arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread? Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still; Try to look beyond earths shadows, Pray to trust our Fathers Will. There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remaineth You shall rest in Jesus land. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come! LYDIA ELIZALDE GARCIA Lydia Elizalde Garcia went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2001. Her death, though sudden, was not unexpected by her family and friends. Gods perfect timing took her before the pain from cancer began to cloud her still sharp senses and her hilarious sense of humor. She would have been 71 in 18 days. Lily, as she was known to most of her friends in the various jobs she worked, was employed at Alco Mfg., the Coca-Cola Bottling plant, The Texas A&M Expanded Nutrition Program, Levi Strauss, and finally at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. At Baptist Hospital she grew to care deeply for the elderly and the special challenges that their care involved. We think she enjoyed that job most of all. It was hard work, but she never shied away from a job that she could do. Mother was born March 31, 1930, to Andres and Manuela Elizalde. She is survived by sons, Joe M. Garcia and wife, Judy, Tony A. Garcia and wife, Marina; daughters, Beatrice Bautista and husband, Tino, Thelma Hernandez and husband, Tony, Maria A. Hawkins and husband, Ronnie, and Irene Ramirez; and grandchildren; Amy Reyes and husband, Robert, Tina Garcia, Joe M. Garcia III and wife, Michelle, Dora DeHoyos and husband, Sam, Rebecca Jo Pena and husband, Luis, Melissa Garcia, Ronnie Hawkins III and wife, Carrie, Anthony Hernandez and wife, Ramona, Eric Ramirez, Steven Garcia, Jennyfer Bautista, Joshua Brandon Hawkins, Zachary Ramirez, Dustin Hernandez, Megan Doyle and Tony Andrew Garcia Jr. Great-grandchildren include Miranda Perez, Jenna Asevedo, Kenny Asevedo, Nicholas Asevedo, Ashley Garcia, Daniel G. Perez Jr., Xavier Garcia, Alex Garcia, Tyler Ryan Garcia, Luis Pena, Angelica Pena, Selina Villareal, Joseph Hernandez, Mariah Hernandez, and great-great-grandson, John Angel Guerrero. Survivors also include brothers, Ernest Alexander, Guadalupe Alexander and wife, Pauline, William Alexander, Mike Alexander and wife, Mary, Joe Alexander and wife, Frances, and Luis Alexander and wife, Ninfa; sisters, Hortencia Alexander and Ramona Willis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Antonio Alexander; and her husband of 40 years, Jose M. Garcia Sr. Mother loved to sew, quilt, crotchet, and do all sorts of crafts, especially those involving angels. Now she is among them in Heaven, probably straightening out a wing or sewing a gown. She loved her flowers and the yard that she and Daddy spent so many years bringing up from the dirt. Though the drought from last year took its toll on the yard, it did not take its toll on her; she had plans for the yard, if only the weather would cooperate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, including honorary pallbearer Andrew Garcia, her four year-old grandson whom she loved like the sunshine. To all the world she is just another person who has died and gone to Heaven. To those who loved her, weve lost a mother, sister, sister-in-law, tia, mother-in-law, comadre and friend. She was a link to our past; she made us who we are today and who we can become tomorrow. We wont forget her. She was a special woman. She was Lydia Elizalde Garcia, child of God, now resting with him. No more pain, no more suffering. Peace be yours, Mother. We love you. Service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Margarets Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnsons Funeral Home. CLINTON B.
