OBITUARIES GLORIA LOUISE HARRIS On May 20th, the Lord called her name, softly and tenderly, Gloria, your Jimmy is here at my right hand with all the unborn children who never had a chance to live on Earth outside the womb. Are you ready to join us? You HAVE fought the good fight, you HAVE won the race and your mansion awaits you, come on in. On that dark night she answered His call, I am coming Lord. Accompanied by a host of angels cloaked in Heavens light she alighted from her earthly, frail body to join the love of her life and make ready a place for us to come later. Gloria Harris came into this world as Gloria Louise Campbell on July 2, 1925, into the loving arms of a blissful mother, Era Margaret Steele Campbell and the anxious heart of her loving lowly carpenter father, Luther Willie Campbell. She was the first daughter and baby sitter to Billie Joe Campbell, who now resides in Lubbock and Charles Wayne Campbell, already a resident of the holy realm. The family was later made complete by another baby girl, Ina Ross Campbell Mitchell of Abbott, Texas. That warm July night of her birth was celebrated by all those around in Menlow, Texas. Gloria and Jimmy were joined into one on Dec. 3, 1944, in Waco while Jimmy was stationed at Waco Army Air Corps base during the height of the second great war of this nation. They gave life to two very blessed children, Cynthia Anne Harris Osborne and Anderson Campbell Harris. Cynthia and her precious husband, Jim, call the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia home. Anderson, or Andy, as all know him lives in Phoenix, Ariz. Cynthia gifted them with two wonderful children, BoBo (aka Phillip Benefield) and Janet Dionne Keim. BoBo is a musician in Nashville, Tenn. Janet is a computer engineer in Irving. Janet has blessed the family with three wonderfully active young sons, Chris, age 12, Joseph, age 6, and Zachary, age 3. Anderson Andy gave them one beautiful daughter, Angela. Angela, a nurse in Aurora, Colo., and her husband, Gary Cuzins, have now blessed the family with a newly arrived son, Evan Matthew. Gloria left this world after having been a lifelong advocate of children everywhere, a true believer in God and a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. She and Jimmy fought the good fight for the lives of the unborn. She had been active in the garden clubs, the public school system, and the San Angelo Craft Guild for many years. Mother, while you are no longer with us in the body that was so tired and frail, you always will be in our souls and our hearts. We rejoice with your entry into the gates of Heaven and back into the arms of Daddy, aka DeeDee, the love of your life. You leave us rich in spirit by just having dwelt among us. You leave us hurting by your departure and lonely for all those special its going to be okays. You left behind those precious memories and high standards and family values. It is now that you can rejoin Daddy and your little dog, Patty, for those long walks down the golden paths and through the forests filled with celebration by all who have gone before you to prepare the way. We look forward to the time when God calls the rest of us to His throne and makes that family circle complete again. We say not goodbye but only farewell for a while. We love you dearly and always will. We will hold those special conversations and loving hugs dear to our hearts. Bye for now, GiGi. You now can rest in the peace of the Lord and the loving arms of DeeDee. Just sing that song one more time for us. Those you leave behind to complete the work that you began on this Earth. A third generation Texan, she was born July 6, 1902, in Floresville, the fourth of seven children of Benjamin and Sallie Franklin. Her people homesteaded in Texas in the early 1800s. While still in her youth, Verna had black hair and bright blue eyes and was described as lovely of character and disposition. She was a steel magnolia, a southern matriarch in every sense of the word. Quintessentially southern was her pride in and her loyalty to her family. After graduating from the University of Texas, she taught school in La Feria, where she met her husband, Jay T. Cawley in 1921. They had one son, Jim Cawley. Verna and Jay loved to travel, hunt, go to the ranch and relax, and play a mean game of dominoes. When they lived in El Paso, the often entertained and went to the Empire Club to dance. Nini was a devout Christian attending the First Presbyterian Church in El Paso. After retiring to the ranch, Nini became active in the First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado. She always had time to read to one or more of her five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Verna had many talents. Her grandchildren learned early what was and was not expected in terms of behavior. She was also a stickler for correct grammar. She was known as Nini to all those around her. She was a great cook but professed she failed in tatting 101. She was an avid Bible scholar and when her eyesight failed, she listened to the Bible on tape or when read to her by her grandchildren. Jim Cawley preceded her in death in 1986. Verna is survived by her daughter-in-law, Billy Cawley of Eldorado; her grandchildren, LeAnne Skinner and husband, Steve, of Austin, Jim Cawley and wife, Dora, of Graham, John Ben Cawley and wife, Cindy, of Eldorado, Sally Brazzel and husband, Dusty, and Bill Cawley of Willis; and great-grandchildren, Willis, Emily Anne, Erin, Jay Ross, Will, Anna, Nancy, Scott, Jay Gee, Megan, Joel, Elizabeth, Toll and Jacqualyn. Nieces, nephews and friends would also like to be listed as survivors. Nini did not go gently. She fought tenaciously against the effects of old age for years, displaying indomitable spirit of her pioneer ancestors. She showed us how to live, fight and die. We will miss her very much. A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Graham. We will celebrate her life there. If desired, memorials would be welcomed at the First Presbyterian Churches of Graham or Eldorado in honor of Ninis life. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnsons Funeral Home. JONELL WALKER Jonell Walker, 63, died in Reno, Nev., on Monday, May 14, 2001, peacefully in her sleep with family members present. June was born June 17, 1931, in San Angelo to L.H. and Maggie Lou Caruthers. She grew up on ranches, attended San Marcos Baptist Academy and graduated from Barnhart High School. Everyone knew that Nannie knew that you would never leave her house hungry. She fed all Gods creatures great and small and everyone knew that the joys of her life were her precious grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hamilton.
