Johnsons Funeral Home GEORGE McLIN George Herbert McLin, 92, of San Angelo passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Robert Massie Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Harris of Johnson Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Herbert was born May 21, 1909, in Oenaville, Texas, to Dossie and Willie McLin. In 1926, he graduated from McGregor High School. He found temporary work at a cotton compress and oil mill in McGregor, but this work didnt pay enough. He came to San Angelo in February 1927, and moved in with his Uncle Everett and Aunt Gladys Lee and their four children. In late June, Herberts father, mother, brother D.W. and sister Doris joined him in San Angelo. In June 1928, he accepted a full-time job with the Electric Plant on East Avenue H. This was the beginning of a long work relationship that would eventually span 45 years. Herbert was a WWII Navy veteran. He served in Company B, U.S. Navy Seabees from 1943 to 1945. He married Stella M. Maxwell July 8, 1956, in San Angelo. They were an immensely devoted couple. Although they had no children of their own, they helped Herberts mother raise his sisters children, Doris Ann from age 5 and Charles Lee from age 3. This was necessary due to his sisters early death at age 26. This early relationship with this young niece and nephew led to a lifelong bonding. He and Stella moved to Abilene in 1998 to be closer to his nephew, Charles. After retiring, Herb and Stella worked for five years in delivering Meals for the Elderly. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Stella. Survivors are his niece, Doris Mcleod of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; his nephew and wife, Charles and Ann Howard of Abilene; brother-in-law and his wife, Jay and Bea Maxwell of San Angelo; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. Memorials may be made to the Medina Childrens Home in Medina, Texas. Robert Massie Funeral Home T.P. GOLDING T. P. Golding, 101, of San Saba, Texas, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, in Brownwood, Texas. He was born Sept. 6, 1900, in Dublin, Texas, the son of John Reid Golding and Pearl Price Golding. He was a country boy, riding his horse four miles from his fathers 250-acre cattle ranch to Dublin. He tied his horse behind Mr. Maurice Reids Ford dealership and walked to school. When T.P. was 15, he went to work full time at Reids dealership in Dublin, washing windows and cleaning floors. While working for Reid, he learned the car business from the ground up. On Sept. 15, 1920, T.P. Golding and Florence Bowden were married in Lingleville, Texas. In 1938, Reid and T.P. came to San Saba and bought a dealership. They co-owned San Saba Ford and Mercury until 1948, when he assumed full control and changed the dealerships name to Golding Motors. In 1945, Paul Golding started working full time for his father at the dealership. Always a team, father and son went quail hunting together every fall, a passion the elder Golding had enjoyed for decades. He had owned his share of good pointers down through the years. T.P. was a great field trialer, a longtime patron of field trials, and a great field trial judge. On several occasions, the Permian Bird Dog and Sportsmans Club of Big Spring, Texas, used T.P. as one of their judges. At his 100^th birthday party, the mayor of San Saba presented him with a plaque naming him Mayor for the Day. The county judge presented him with a plaque designating a Tommie Golding Day. A representative from Ford Motor Co. recognized him as the Oldest Living Ford Dealer in the entire world. When asked to what did he attribute his long life, Tommie said, I always believed in and urged my customers to buy the Extended Warranty. Recently, Bill Mathis wrote in The American Field magazine that Mr. Tommie Golding was a pretty fair used car salesman! He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister and her husband, Ruth and Bill Lisso. Funeral service for T.P. Golding will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Riley, the Rev. Sam Crosby and John Shero officiating. Interment will follow in San Saba City Cemetery.
