She graduated as valedictorian of Sterling City High School in 1922, then attended Trinity University in Waxahachie her freshman year, and took the freshman prize for highest ranking student of 1923. That fall, she transferred to the University of Texas where she graduated first in her class in the College of Liberal Arts in 1926. She was a member of Theta Sigma Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. Johnsons Funeral Home MARY ANNA BOLDING CASEY Mary Anna Bolding Casey, a longtime teacher, passed away Oct. 19, 2001. Born in San Angelo Nov. 4, 1909, she lived here all her life with the exception of the World War II years, when she accompanied her husband, Glenn L. Casey, to Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska and Washington state, where she taught school while he worked in defense plants. Mary graduated from San Angelo High School in 1928 and received bachelors and masters degrees from Sul Ross State University. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of San Angelo. She taught briefly in Eldorado and at Fairview before commencing a 40-year career teaching in the San Angelo ISD. Before the 1940s, married women were not permitted to teach in many areas of the country, including San Angelo. When Mary and Glenn were married in 1941, San Angelo school officials decided they had lost too many good teachers to this discriminatory policy, and scrapped it rather than lose another good one. Probably the vast majority of her students over the subsequent years were very glad she was allowed to continue. She retired in 1975, after teaching English at Central High School for the last 10 years of her career. She loved teaching and enjoyed her students immensely. After retiring she spent many hours working as a volunteer in hospitals and with Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903. She and Glenn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 1991. Her home was always heaven on earth for her grandchildren, and she taught them the importance of kindness and patience, which were her identifying traits. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Glenn L. Casey; her parents, J.P. and Delia Bolding; and brothers, S.P. Sid, M.E. Buck, Dan and William Bolding. She is survived by her sister, Christine Neligh; sons, Danny G. Casey and wife, Pollyanna, of Arvada, Colo., and Terry M. Casey and wife, Patti, of Arlington; grandchildren, Karen Casey of Denver, Sally Sorheim and husband, Neil, of Thornton, Colo., Paula Casey of Denver, Beth Casey of New Brunswick, N.J., and Kevin Casey of Arlington; and by numerous nieces and nephews, including the ones who have helped greatly with her care, Anne Dickens, Stella Wolfenbarger and Judy Baity. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Johnsons Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Rholfs officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the management and staffs at Rio Concho East and Meadow Creek Nursing Center for the love and care they have provided over the past couple of years. Johnsons Funeral Home BEATRICE M. PATTERSON ROBERT LEE The angels in Heaven are rejoicing as they welcome home their cherished sister in Christ, Beatrice M. Patterson. Bea, 86, passed away on Oct. 18, 2001, in the Robert Lee Care Center surrounded by her two loving sons, Larry and Charles Patterson. Beatrice Marion Colvin was born on May 6, 1915, in Decatur, Texas, to parents, Jim and Rosalee Colvin. She leaves behind a sister, Edna Powell of Mesquite and a brother, Aubrey Earley of Kerens. Bea married Calvin Furman Patterson on Dec. 23, 1933, in Kerens, Texas. C.F. Pat preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1976. Together they had two sons, Larry of Cibolo and Charles of Gonzales. Bea was many things to many people, but her life was distinguished by her service to her church, her devotion to her friends and her love for her family. She was a member of the Robert Lee Baptist Church for 43 years, where she also taught Sunday school. Studying her lesson to best convey the Word of God to her girls was very important to Bea. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 Bea was also blessed with many friends who cared for her dearly. She had good friend because she was a good friend. The kindnesses and sharing between these special friends created a bond that even cancer couldnt take away. The third important element is Beas life was her family. Her family will remember her for the joy that her dimpled smile brought to every emergency and her abiding love through all situations, good and bad. Bea will forever remain in the hearts of her two sons, Larry and Charles, their wives, Beth and Sarah, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Robert Lee Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest in Bazette Cemetery in Kerens at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. The family suggest memorials be sent to Hospice of San Angelo.
