Services are pending at Stevens Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries BARBARA WINSLOW KERRVILLE Barbara Nell Jacks Winslow, 63, passed away at home in Kerrville, Texas, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001. Memorial service will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, with the Rev. Ernest Williams officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Burial service will be in Fort McKavett Cemetery, Fort McKavett, Texas, at 3 p.m. on Nov. 17 with a reception following at the Runge Ranch. She was born in Eden, Texas, on Sept. 24, 1938, to Jimmie Dick Jacks and Doris Nell Eaton. She lived briefly with her parents in Del Rio, Texas, and returned to Eden in 1948 where her father was the Eden High School football coach. She graduated from Eden High School in 1957 and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. On Oct. 3, 1959, Barbara married John M. Johnny Winslow Jr. from a longtime ranching family in Menard, Texas. While on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, Barbara and Johnny lived in San Antonio and Athens, Greece. In 1967 they moved to the Kansas City, Mo., area where Johnny was employed as a pilot for Trans World Airlines and continued his military career with the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Richard Gebeaur Air Force Base, Mo. In 1982 Barbara and Johnny moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1990, after Johnny retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, Barbara and Johnny returned to their home state of Texas to live in Kerrille, Texas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville. Her survivors include her husband, Johnny; two sons, John Scott and Keith Black; father-in-law, John M. Winslow Sr.; and grandchildren, Casey Matthew Hill, Ian Alexander Winslow and Montgomery Keith Winslow. She also is survived by her mother, Doris Nell Eaton Jacks of Kerrville; two brothers, Jim Dick Jacks of San Angelo and Larry Dean Jacks of Fort Worth; nephew, Jeffrey Jacks of San Angelo; and niece, Jennifer Jacks Carthel of Abilene. After moving to Kerrville, Barbara became active as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and other Bible study groups. Always the gracious hostess, Barbara loved home, family and friends and her Lord. Barbara was a joy and a delight to her many friends and loved ones. Her ready wit and her honest and frank remarks were refreshing to all who loved her. She will be remembered by all for her willingness to reach out to others with a meal, a batch of cookies and her winning smile. Barbara will be remembered as a loving and caring friend, a fun person others enjoyed being in her presence. She loved to study and read, and her home was heaven on earth along with her books, her little dogs, Pixie and Muffin, and family and friends. Myrte was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, William Henry Martin. Myrte was married to Ethel Lee Bland on Dec. 24, 1933, in Haskell, Texas. Johnsons Funeral Home OPAL EUDY DORGAN Opal Eudy Dorgan was born April 15, 1910, in Caddo County, Okla., to Ethel and Charlie White. She died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in San Angelo. She married H.L. Doc Eudy on Oct. 26, 1929, in Carnegie, Okla. They farmed east of San Angelo until Doc passed away on Jan. 4, 1958. Their son Billy Eudy continued the farming operation. Billy married Peggy McCleskey in 1961 and Opal moved to San Angelo. Opal loved to work and held many jobs including a clerk at the County Clerks office in San Angelo for Raymond Jones, secretary for Dr. Ballard at Shannon Hospital, insurance agent and banquet coordinator for various businesses. She was a member of Veribest United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school many years. Opal married an insurance agent, John Dorgan in 1965. They lived in various West Texas towns before returning to San Angelo in 1976. John passed away in 1978. Pal continued the insurance business for many years. He had retired from there this past summer. His statement in a news article about his retirement in June was that his biggest accomplishment in his career was that I was able to provide full financial services to my many friends and customers that extended all over West Texas. Mr. Scott was an avid golfer and a good, honest man. He will be remembered for his warm heart, ready smile and that twinkle in his eye. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann James. He passed from this life on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Charley graduated from Eldorado High School and was very active on the football and baseball teams. He was also a member of the 4-H Club and won numerous blue ribbons. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went to boot camp in California. He was stationed in Hawaii on the battleship USS Missouri as a gunner. After his service in the military, Charley began his 35-year career with the Texas Highway Department (TXDot). He married Zola Trixie Wade on Oct. 30, 1956, in Lovington, New Mexico. Johnsons Funeral Home IVA LOFTIN Iva Loftin slipped away in peace Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, 2001, in the Reagan County Care Center after the completion of an eventful and glorious life. Mother/Grandmother was born in Rotan, Texas, on Nov. 20, 1911. After an eventful, and sometimes exciting, courtship, Iva married Wilson Loftin in Sweetwater, Texas on Aug. 17, 1932. Iva owned a gift shop that resided next door to her husbands gas station and she will always be remembered for her wonderful gifts and accessories. Wilson and Iva retired to their second and most fulfilling home, their ranch, in 1977. Iva was preceded in death by her husband and son, Bill Loftin, in 1979. Iva is survived by one son, Dan and wife, Mary Loftin. She also has two surviving grandsons, Cade and Brandon Loftin of Fort Worth and Phoenix; and three granddaughters, Lori Loftin of Portland, Ore., Leah Loftin of Big Lake and Lindsay Loftin of San Angelo. He passed from this life on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Charley graduated from Eldorado High School and was very active on the football and baseball teams. He was also a member of the 4-H Club and won numerous blue ribbons. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went to boot camp in California. He was stationed in Hawaii on the battleship USS Missouri as a gunner. After his service in the military, Charley began his 35-year career with the Texas Highway Department (TXDot). He married Zola Trixie Wade on Oct. 30, 1956, in Lovington, New Mexico. Linda attended San Angelo High School and San Angelo College. Linda married William Franklin Collins June 1, 1957. Linda taught dancing for many years, developing her own dance school in the 1960s. Linda spent her young life as the perfect mother. She was a devoted supporter of her childrens interests in horses and tennis. Linda traveled endless miles to horse shows and tennis tournaments, always encouraging her kids to be the best they could be. In later years, nothing pleased LaLa more than taking care of her grandchildren. Bull and LaLas farm became a place for kids of all ages to come and enjoy. Linda was the consummate hostess. People from all over the state enjoyed her smile and hospitality. Nothing pleased her more than to entertain guests at the farm. Linda Collins is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Timothy Charles Smith; and her son, William Kevin and wife, Kimberly Lynn. Linda attended San Angelo High School and San Angelo College. Linda married William Franklin Collins June 1, 1957. Linda taught dancing for many years, developing her own dance school in the 1960s. Linda spent her young life as the perfect mother. She was a devoted supporter of her childrens interests in horses and tennis. Linda traveled endless miles to horse shows and tennis tournaments, always encouraging her kids to be the best they could be. In later years, nothing pleased LaLa more than taking care of her grandchildren. Bull and LaLas farm became a place for kids of all ages to come and enjoy. Linda was the consummate hostess. People from all over the state enjoyed her smile and hospitality. Nothing pleased her more than to entertain guests at the farm. Linda Collins is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Timothy Charles Smith; and her son, William Kevin and wife, Kimberly Lynn. He then moved to San Angelo. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Sid was a member of the Methodist Church, a member of the Lake Board, involved in Cub Scout leadership and was a past member of the Concho Bass Club. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and being with family. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army Reserves. He graduated from Sonora High School and married Gene Marrs Dec. 4, 1949. He was a past president of the Business Mens Bible Class. His retirement years were spent in writing poetry, woodworking and an acute interest in genealogy.
