Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Llano First Baptist Church with burial in Llano City Cemetery. Willis Ray Walker was born April 6, 1911, in Ingram, Texas, to J.E. Walker and Hattey Pearl Baker. He was one of four children. Most of his childhood was spent in Ingram, Hamilton and Burnet. On Feb. 23, 1935, Ray married Lucille Moore and settled into a ranching life in the Pontotoc and Castell areas. Some of Ray and Lucilles most memorable times were spent working for Merlin Rogers on the Ball Ranch at Fort McKavett during the late 30s and early 40s. During the 40s and 50s, Ray and Lucille lived, worked and ranched in Castell. After the drought, Lucille and Ray moved into Llano and Ray was a butcher for Hasses and Pinkies Grocery Stores while still continuing his interest in ranching. After retirement from the butcher shop at the age of 62, Ray was able to devote full time to ranching in the Prairie Mountain section of Llano County and continued to do until the age of 80. Ray had many friends, enjoyed the fellowship of his church, Sunday school class and cherished the special moments with the First Baptist Church Brotherhood group. Ray loved to talk and visit with people, entertain his grandchildren, go out into the country, go to the cattle auction and tell everyone he lived in Llano County. He loved Llano and just didnt think any other place could measure up to Llano County. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, who died in 1986. Ray is survived by his only son, Roger Ray Walker and his wife, Kathy, of Santa Anna. The joys of his life were his grandchildren, Kista Stahl and her husband, Steve, their son, Brenner of Arlington, J.T. Walker of Lubbock and Matt Walker of San Angelo.
