She then moved to Cisco where she was a member of the quilting club. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working with the Womens Missionary Union at her church. Edwards Funeral Home DOROTHY MCMURRY Dorothy McMurry, 80, went to her grace Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Slay, Texas, Navarro County. She was married to Vernon McMurry for 34 years. Dorothy had been a resident of Las Vegas since September, moving from San Angelo where she had lived for the past 20 years. She was the solid rock foundation of her family, a devoted mother and grandmother who changed the lives of everyone she met. Her passing has saddened and devastated all those whose lives she touched. She will be surely missed by all those she loved. They had just celebrated their 59 years of marriage this past Sept. 12 in Elko, Nev. Nell was active in local Brownie troops, the American Cancer Society and was a charter member of Meals on Wheels and the hospital auxiliary. She was a golfer and avid card player, especially Bridge and Spite and Malice. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, a granddaughter and Mookie. Survivors include her loving husband, Gene; her daughter, Genie Vogler and husband, Mike, of Georgetown; her son, Johnny Keel and wife, Peggy, of Lebanon, Tenn.; grandchildren, Aimee and Kelli Walden, Todd Keel, Laura McMillen and Jeff McMillen; and great-granddaughter, Madison Walden. Mrs. Meacham was a member of the Church of Christ in Burnett and Eastern Star. After moving to Kerrville, she became a good friend of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong housewife. Mrs. Meacham married Ben Gilbert and lived with him on their ranch in San Angelo until his death in 1950. She later married Floyd Meacham and lived with him on their ranch in Junction until his death in 1978. Jack was the fortunate recipient of a donated heart in May and lived the last months of his life to the fullest. Ricks, lifelong resident of Brady, Texas, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Heart of Texas Hospital at the age of 88. He was born in Lohn, Texas, on July 21, 1913, youngest son of A.J. and Bertie Hall Ricks. Eva Virginia Harris of Lampasas and A.J. married on Sept. 1, 1934. They spent 53 wonderful years committed to each other, to their family and to their Christian faith. Eva Virginia preceded him in death in 1987. Since 1935, A.J. and Eva Virginia founded several businesses in Brady, including Ricks Applicance, Ricks Chevrolet and Ricks Home Furnishings. Four generations of Ricks have shared a lifelong membership in the Brady Rotary Club, including A.J.s father, his son Bill and two grandsons, Guy and Jim. A.J. was active in many civic initiatives over the years including building the Brady Boy Scout Lodge and obtaining government approval and assistance to build Brady Lake. A.J. proudly served as deacon and lay-leader of First Baptist Church in Brady, and was co-chairman of the committee in charge of the construction of the current church building. A.J. is known to many as a quiet, wise and generous servant leader who invested his life in serving his family, his church and his community. He is survived by four children, Ann Ricks Sheffield and husband, Buford, of Brownwood; Bill Ricks and wife, Billie, of Brady, Carol Ricks Bowman and husband, Lee, of Arlington and David Ricks and wife, Susan, also of Arlington. Henry was a lifelong farmer. He thoroughly enjoyed his woodwork and was dedicated to his work with his church. An Army veteran of World War II, Charles worked for Commercial National Bank for 42 years, serving as vice president at the time of his retirement. Carter died at home Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. James L. Carter was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Tulsa, Okla., to Gordon and Anna Lee Carter. He graduated from Tulsa High School and received his first degree from Oklahoma City University. He earned two advanced degrees, one from Eastern New Mexico University and another from Perkins School of Theology, SMU, Dallas. In 1960, he was ordained as deacon in the New Mexico Conference of the Methodist church. It was not until 1972, after several successful years in the Chamber of Commerce field, that Rev. Carter was ordained an elder in the Southwest Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Carter pastored United Methodist churches in Lyford, San Angelo (Angelo Heights, Sierra Vista and St. Luke), Laredo, Austin (Berkley and Asbury), Port Lavaca and Ozona, before retiring in 1998. In 1999, he came out of retirement to become the pastor of the Water Valley United Methodist Church, where he served until his death. Carter also served in communities in which he lived. He was president of Holding Institute in Laredo and served as chaplain for both the House and Senate of the Texas State Legislature. Carter was involved in the Boy Scouts and with several other community organizations. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara of San Angelo; three children and their families, Kristopher and Olivia Carter of Los Angeles, Jeanie and Miles Hasty of Sterling City and Raymond Foster of San Angelo. Jim also is survived by his adopted mother, Blanche Horne of San Angelo and two precious grandchildren, Matthew and Jennie Hasty of Sterling City. DeAun was born Dec. 7, 1916, in San Angelo to A.J. and Edith Lee Oxford Gordon. She attended grade school through high school in San Angelo and John Tarleton College in Stephenville, Texas. After college she held positions with Gambills Department Store, General Telephone Company and the Credit Bureau. DeAun married Harold Wayne Kennedy on May 14, 1950. Wayne was head of the booking department for Firestone and was transferred to Dallas in 1954. DeAun then attended John Powers Modeling School in Dallas, soon after modeling for Carrier Air Conditioners at Dallas Market Hall. There she met and began modeling for Mr. Herman Marcus, who was a dress manufacture in Dallas. She modeled his clothing in Market Hall for 15 years. In 1970, she went on the road selling the Herman Marcus clothing line. After retiring from Firestone in 1970 Wayne joined her. Their territory consisted of East Texas, South Texas, and all of Dallas. In 1975, they retired and remained at their home in Dallas. In 1991, they moved to San Angelo and have made their home at Rio Concho West. Carter pastored United Methodist churches in Lyford, San Angelo (Angelo Heights, Sierra Vista and St. Luke), Laredo, Austin (Berkley and Asbury), Port Lavaca and Ozona, before retiring in 1998. In 1999, he came out of retirement to become the pastor of the Water Valley United Methodist Church, where he served until his death. Carter also served in communities in which he lived. He was president of Holding Institute in Laredo and served as chaplain for both the House and Senate of the Texas State Legislature. Carter was involved in the Boy Scouts and with several other community organizations. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara of San Angelo; three children and their families, Kristopher and Olivia Carter of Los Angeles, Jeanie and Miles Hasty of Sterling City and Raymond Foster of San Angelo. Jim also is survived by his adopted mother, Blanche Horne of San Angelo; his mother-in-law, Myrtle M. Abel of San Angelo; two precious grandchildren, Matthew and Jenny Hasty of Sterling City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Wayne was head of the booking department for Firestone and was transferred to Dallas in 1954. DeAun then attended John Powers Modeling School in Dallas, soon after modeling for Carrier Air Conditioners at Dallas Market Hall. There she met and began modeling for Mr. Herman Marcus, who was a dress manufacture in Dallas. She modeled his clothing in Market Hall for 15 years. In 1970, she went on the road selling the Herman Marcus clothing line. After retiring from Firestone in 1970 Wayne joined her. Their territory consisted of East Texas, South Texas, and all of Dallas. In 1975, they retired and remained at their home in Dallas. In 1991, they moved to San Angelo and have made their home at Rio Concho West. He is survived by his mother, Pat Searcy of Carlsbad; two sisters, Patty England and husband, Ira, and Darlene Posey, both of San Angelo; three brothers, Willie Searcy of San Angelo, Jerry Searcy and wife, Margie, of Carlsbad and Terry and wife, Debbie, of Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and friend, Tommy Sikes of Grape Creek. Johnsons Funeral Home JAMES M. HILL James M. Hill, 81, of San Angelo died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Shannon Community Hospital. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Grosse Mohler officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. James was born June 2, 1920, to Lee and Sally Hill in Christoval, Texas. Jim has lived in Tom Green County all his life. He attended high school in Christoval, and later the University of Texas. He served five years with the Air Force during World War II and is a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Billye Roberson on Nov. 23, 1990. James served as life director of the National Association of Homebuilders from 1983 to 1992. He was senior life director from 1993 to 2001. In 1951, James was one of the founding members of the San Angelo Home Builders Association. He was president of the local association in 1958. James was the first to build ready-built homes in San Angelo. He was instrumental in putting on the first home shows in San Angelo. James was also instrumental in the development of Southland Park and Southland Hill subdivisions. James was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Pythias. James was preceded in death by a son, Mike Hill in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Billye Hill of San Angelo; one daughter, Linda Hill of San Angelo; one granddaughter, Michelle Hill of El Paso; one sister, Jo Ann Cornelius of Austin; daughter-in-law, Cheron Hill of Denver; two step-children, Doug Nowell and wife, Peggy, of San Angelo and Margo Johnson and husband, Andrew, of Port Bolivar; six stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one nephew; and three nieces. Pallbearers will be Johnny Duncan, R.D. Barron, George Alexander, Jack Lowry, Bill Wynne and Charles Duncan. Nations, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at his home in San Angelo. Born Jan. 4, 1913, on a small farm near Coldwater Creek in southeastern Missouri, he moved to San Angelo with his wife, Em Hendrix Nations and baby daughter, Judy, in 1945. He worked as an auto bodyman with Ford Motor Company for 40 years, in Missouri and San Angelo, retiring from Jim Bass Ford in 1978. He was an accomplished deer hunter and fisherman and was active for three decades in San Angelo bowling leagues, where he won numerous awards from his teammates and league officials. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Em Nations; a daughter, Judy Campbell and her husband, David, Campbell of San Angelo; a son, Dr. James D. Nations and his wife, Mary E., Hartman of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, Tracy Zykowski and her husband, John Zykowski, Chris Campbell, Casey Trahern, Chris Nations, Jamie Nations and Charles Nicholas Nations; and one great-grandchild, Mathies Zykowski. Johnsons Funeral Home WAYNE AUGUSTINE KREAMER OZONA Wayne Augustine Kreamer, 88, of Houston passed away Dec. 5, 2001, after a long struggle with Alzheimers disease. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Wayne was born to Will and Helen Augustine on Jan. 27, 1913, in Ozona. She attended school in Ozona graduating from Ozona High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. In the 1940s, Wayne moved to Houston where she worked for Republic Oil of Texas for many years. In 1953, she married Karl K. Kreamer who preceded her in death in 1988. Wayne was active in numerous volunteer organizations in the Houston area. Wayne was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Walter and Robert A. Augustine; and her sisters, Lucy Mae Meinecke, Helen Taylor and Mary North. Although Wayne and Karl had no children, both were greatly loved by her nieces and nephews.
