Johnsons Funeral Home MARY LOIS WHITE FORMAN BALLINGER Mary Lois White Forman of Ballinger was born June 18, 1901, to the Rev. P.R. White and Rena Jones White in New York, Franklin County, Texas. She joyously answered her Saviors call to come home to her heavenly rest on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the age of 100. The daughter of a Methodist minister, she lived in many towns in East Texas as she was growing up. She worked her way through Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, by working in the university library and teaching in one-room schools every other semester. When she graduated in 1923 as a teacher, she took a job in the Ballinger public schools. Arriving sight-unseen to teach high school history and English, she remembered her first impression of Ballinger as she stepped off that train, Where have I come? There are no trees here! Ballinger hadnt started planting the beautiful pecan trees we see today. She soon met Joe Forman, an employee of the First National Bank of Ballinger, and they were married June 12, 1924. They made their home in Ballinger, with the exception of two years, 1945 to 1947, in Junction, Texas. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, especially young adults, for over 65 years while maintaining her membership in the Philathia class. She also taught Bible classes at the church and in her home. She held other offices in the local church and in the Brownwood district and the Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Church. She was awarded a life membership in the Methodist Womens Missionary Society in the mid-50s. A Sunday school class honored her recently by naming their circle after her. Through the years she organized interdenominational prayer groups which met in members homes. One such group met for over 50 years. They always greeted the dawn of Easter Sunday on the bluff overlooking Elm Creek long before houses were built there or organized Easter sunrise became the norm. She worked with the Ballinger Council of Churches, organizing the local World Day of Prayer for many years. While a teacher through 1934, she was active in school organizations, such as coaching debate and directing student plays. She also was active in the community, supporting charitable organizations, organizing fund drives, performing in plays, giving book reviews and making speeches. She was a member of the Shakespeare club and the music club. During World War II, she worked with the young wives and soldiers stationed at Bruce Field and the wives and girlfriends left at home, helping them cope with the turmoil of war in their lives. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph White Forman, in 1926; her husband Joe in 1973; and two brothers, Rankin White and the Rev. Jester White. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Charles Konen of Houston; her grandson, Keith Forman Konen of College Station; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. G.C. Miller of San Angelo, Mrs. Paul Smith of Coleman and Betty Forman of Galveston; one brother-in-law, Bill Forman of Bronte; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
