Service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas, with burial in Jenkins Springs Cemetery. She was born on March 11, 1933, in Brownwood, Texas, to L.O. and Clara Huckaby. She graduated from Early High School in 1950. She married Thomas Murray Flowers on Dec. 24, 1950, in Early. Mrs. Flowers worked for a local TV station in San Angelo from 1953-1954. She then went to work for General Telephone Company of the Southwest in 1957 and retired from General Telephone Company as an administrative manager in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.O. and Clara Huckaby and by her brother, Bob Huckaby. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Murray Flowers; son, Vance Flowers and wife, Deb, and their children, Tarah, Mikaela and Sabra, all of Grapevine; daughter, Kacie Taylor and husband, Jon, and their children, Trey and Jordan, all of Kingwood. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.Heartland Funeral Home BESSIE LUCILLE ADAMS SONORA Bessie Lucille Adams was born to Burt and Lorrie Rode April 10, 1917. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in Midland. She was raised on the Rode Ranch, east of Sonora. She, her sister and brother attended Cedar Hill School at Camp Allison in Sutton County and Sonora public schools. While attending Cedar Hill, she and her sister were members of the girls basketball team. She was married to Artie Matthew Adams Sept. 19, 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1983. They made their home in Sonora where she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She helped her husband in the 1970s with his accounting and tax business. She dearly loved her family and was devoted to them. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Sonora. Bessie was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, G.T. Rode, and his wife, Dilla; a brother-in-law, Terry Baker; and her oldest son, Tommy Ray Adams. She is survived by her sister, Essie Baker of San Angelo and formerly of Sonora; one son, Artie Burt Adams and his wife, LaRue, of Victoria; one daughter, Katherine McReynolds and her husband, James, of Midland; a daughter-in-law, Florrie Adams of San Angelo; grandchildren, Teresa Adams of San Angelo, Terry Adams of New Mexico, Ronald Gillaspy of Midland, Sharla Adams Wilson and Sheila Adams Todd of Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren. She was an interior decorator for twenty years and income tax accountant for twenty years. She was married to Dave Holland and he preceded her in death in 1958. He was born July 14, 1910, in Brady, Texas. He married Rhodie Benson Dec. 12, 1933, at the West Sweeden Methodist Church and he was a longtime member of Melvin United Methodist Church. Leonard was involved in farming and ranching in New Mexico and Pecos, Texas, for many years. Leonard attended Business Mens Bible Class for a number of years. Lewis served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a good conduct medal, an EAME campaign medal with three bronze stars and a Distinguished Unit Badge in recognition of his service. He married Annie Bell Gartrell on July 7, 1935, in Ballinger and retired after 40 years of employment for the city of Ballinger. He was a decorated Marine veteran, having served in the South Pacific in World War II., and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Suez Temple in San Angelo, Scottish Rite in Waco, Suez Legion of Honor, Masonic Lodge #1270 of San Angelo and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Cuellar was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Cuellar; his parents, the Rev. V.C. and Juanita Cuellar; a brother, Valeriano (Bob) Cuellar, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Betty Ann Estrada. He is survived by his loving wife, Estella Cuellar of San Angelo; a daughter, Alice Estrada of San Angelo; two sons, Roger R. Cuellar Jr. and Ed. R. Cuellar, both of San Angelo; a brother, Eddie Cuellar of San Angelo; nine grandchildren, his special grandchildren being Elizabeth, George and John Marc Cuellar; 11 great-grandchildren with a special great-granddaughter Erica Pena; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a member of the Suez Temple in San Angelo, Scottish Rite in Waco, Suez Legion of Honor, Masonic Lodge #1270 of San Angelo and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Cuellar was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Cuellar; his mother and father, the Rev. V.C. and Juanita Cuellar; a brother, Valeriano (Bob) Cuellar Jr.; and a granddaughter, Betty Ann Estrada. While attending Cedar Hill, she and her sister were members of the girls basketball team. She was married to Artie Matthew Adams Sept. 19, 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1983. They made their home in Sonora where she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She helped her husband in the 1970s with his accounting and tax business. She dearly loved her family and was devoted to them. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Sonora. Bessie was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, G.T. Rode, and his wife, Dilla; a brother-in-law, Terry Baker; and her oldest son, Tommy Ray Adams. She was born in Brown County on March 6, 1913, to Bob and Elsie Hamlett of the Grosvenor Community. She married A. Hanna, a Concho County rancher in 1931 and they began ranching in San Saba in 1936. Mr. Hanna died in 1961. Lillie Murl was a housewife and had been a beautician. She was a charter member of the Live Oak home demonstration club, a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the First Baptist Church of San Saba. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters. Div., 60th Reg. during World War II. After military service, he joined the San Angelo Police Force in August of 1945, serving honorably until his retirement on Sept. 30, 1981. Sammie married Bettie Murrell on April 4, 1953, in Doole, Texas. He was an avid sportsman, loving bowling, motorcycles and traveling. Sammie was a member of the V.F.W., Post 1815, a life member of the DAV, a member of the Texas Municipal Police Association and the ninth Infantry Division Association and a member of the Valley Springs Primitive Baptist Church. He grew up in Garden City and was a lifelong rancher. He served in the U. S. Army. He also held the office of Glasscock County Commissioner for four years. He and his wife served as Glasscock County Chairmen for the Howard-Glasscock Centennial. He was honored at the Old Settlers Reunion as Pioneer of the Year. He was an avid sports fan, loved playing dominoes, and in his early years, was an outstanding roper; he held the highest average in the Glasscock County Roping Club for two years. He was big-hearted, kind and loved people; he never met a stranger. His pride and joy were his family, his wife of 46 years, Barbara Lu, his daughter, Laura Maud Huitt and his grandson, Luke Huitt. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, where he served as officer in almost every church office, and took great pride in the maintenance of the church yard, a gift he gave to the church for over 15 years. He was also a member of the Mens Bible Class at the First United Methodist Church in Big Spring, where he attended services for nine years. His parents were Henry and Emma C. Hoffman Ford. He married Marie Brown in San Angelo on Oct. 7, 1939. They had no children. Henry Bake spent most of his life in the Mereta and San Angelo area. Joyce was born June 17, 1940, in Park Rapids, Minn. She grew up in Detroit, Mich., where she met and married her husband, John Robert Graham on March 10, 1962. John and Joyce traveled the world with the United States Air Force and settled in San Angelo, Texas. Joyce worked for GTE/Verizon for many years. She was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir, the discipleship class and had served as church council recording secretary. An avid reader, Joyce enjoyed live theater and the symphony, but loved being with her family above all else. Johnsons Funeral Home DOUGLAS A. WILLIAMS Douglas A. Williams, 83, died at his home early Monday morning, Feb. 18, 2002. He was a founder and former board president of the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for the Concho Valley. He was best known as the founder of the Councils halfway house for recovering alcoholics. The facility was renamed the Williams House in November 1989. He had long been a tireless supporter of the house, engaging in both fund raising and counseling for the residents of Williams House where many recovering drug and alcohol abusers found lasting sobriety. Williams was born in Milam County on July 13, 1918, the son of Berry R. and Susan Whited Williams. As an infant he moved with the family to a farm in Runnels County near Rowena. He was married to Norma Joe Kleitches in San Angelo on May 15, 1942. Three months later he joined the military, first paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He received his paratroopers wings in early 1943. After recovering from a serious injury, he later joined the Sixth Armored Infantry Division. After a brief service in North Africa he fought in the Italian Campaign at Cassino and later participated in the landings on the Anzio beachhead. Among his decorations is the Bronze Star for Valor. Mr. Williams was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, achieving 53 years of sobriety in January of this year. He was the oldest living member of AA in San Angelo. Graveside service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Fairmount Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald Sutto, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. Kiker-Seale Funeral Home DOUGLAS A. WILLIAMS Douglas A. Williams, 83, died at his home early Monday morning, Feb. 18, 2002. He was a founder and former board president of the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for the Concho Valley. He was best known as the founder of the Councils halfway house for recovering alcoholics. The facility was renamed the Williams House in November 1989. He had long been a tireless supporter of the house, engaging in both fund raising and counseling for the residents of Williams House where many recovering drug and alcohol abusers found lasting sobriety. Williams was born in Milam County on July 13, 1918, the son of Berry R. and Susan Whited Williams. As an infant he moved with the family to a farm in Runnels County near Rowena. He was married to Norma Joe Kleitches in San Angelo on May 15, 1942. Three months later he joined the military, first as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He received his paratroopers wings in early 1943. After recovering from a serious injury, he later joined the Sixth Armored Infantry Division. After a brief service in North Africa, he fought in the Italian Campaign at Cassino and later participated in the landings on the Anzio beachhead. Among his decorations is the Bronze Star for Valor. Mr. Williams was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, achieving 53 years of sobriety in January of this year. He was the oldest living member of AA in San Angelo. Graveside service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Fairmount Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald Sutto, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. He attended West Texas State and later transferred to North Texas where he played basketball for the Eagles. He married Mona Ruth Quisenberry, the mother of his three children, in 1949. He was recalled to serve during the Korean War. He coached basketball in Crane, Del Rio, and Big Spring, Texas. Later, he sold real estate and insurance until his retirement. Johnny was an avid sports fan. Since 1985, his passion has been his twin grandsons, Cody and Nick Page. He will be remembered as being in attendance for every basketball, baseball and football game his grandsons played since they were four years old. Ken was an avid golfer and surely would wish his buddies to remember their good time on the course at Riverside Golf Club. Sandy was born Dec. 3, 1945, in Texhoma, Okla., to Darius and Lorene Barnum. She was a resident of San Angelo for 31 years, worked for Newsphoto and was a member of First Christian Church. Sandy was married to Carl W. Freeman on Aug. 29, 1965, in Texhoma, Okla. Survivors include her husband, Carl Freeman of San Angelo; four children, Bobby Freeman of San Antonio, Misti Leary of San Angelo, Tim Freeman of Olympia, Wash., and Jill Freeman of San Angelo; her mother and stepfather, Lorene and Don Kunselman of Spearman, Texas; one brother, Bill Barnum of Stratford, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Jeffry, Brian, Kimery, Sawyer, Foster and Jessie. Mrs. Ford was born Oct. 19, 1907, to Jack and Margaret Moore Thompson in Exray, Texas, in Erath County. She married William Ray Ford on April 14, 1924, in Knox County. He preceded her in death in 1968. She had been a resident of San Angelo since 1968. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Jesse Ford of San Angelo and Robert Ford and wife, Barbara, of Clyde; one sister, Lucy Scruggs of Iredale, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ella was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Rowena, Texas, to Bernard and Balbina (Geistmann) Halfmann. She married Otto Steinbach on June 1, 1945, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Rowena. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1989. She was a lifelong resident of the Rowena area. She was a member of St. Josephs Church and a member of St. Anns Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and NARFE. Ella loved growing vegetable and flowers in her yard and garden. She made many quilts and afghans for her family. Ella also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She took great pride in being a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Paul DeShayes of Rowena; one daughter, Carol Niehues and her husband, Kenneth, of San Angelo; two granddaughters, Debra Decker and husband, Chad, of Magnolia and Donna Cline and husband, Cain, of Wall; one great-granddaughter. Paige Decker of Magnolia; one brother, Albin Halfmann of Rowena; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husbands children, Joan Picco of San Diego, Calif., Wayne DeShayes of San Angelo and Lynda Christensen and husband, Phil, and children of Austin.
