You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy that we shared so many years. I gave you my love, you can only guess How much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love each have shown, But now its time I traveled alone. So grieve if you must, Then let your grief by comforted by trust. Its only for awhile that we must part, So keep the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on; So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cant see or touch me, Ill be near. And if you listen with your heart, youll hear All of my love around you soft and dear. And then when you must come this way alone, Ill be waiting to greet you with a smile And say, Welcome Home. Fifty-two years earlier on Dec. 23, 1949, Patricia Boegner Grote, Patty to her close friends and family, came kicking and screaming into this world. It didnt matter to her that there was a blizzard sweeping through Montana that day nor the fact that her parents couldnt get the car started to get to the hospital. Patty was ready to enter this world and nothing was going to stop her. As you may have realized by now, Patty wasnt born in Texas, but she got here just as fast as she could. By late 1950, Patty was a proud Texan! Throughout Pattys life she exhibited a bit of a rebellious spirit, from that cold night in 49 to her high school days. This rebellious young lady made it through those crazy high school days and even got accepted into Texas A&M University, an accomplishment of which she was very proud of (even if she had to sneak in through summer school). Patty majored in recreation and parks (the real world called it run and play) while at A&M. Her motto was support the wild life throw a party! While pursuing her degree, she met the love of her life, Glen Marvin Grote. What a catch he was! She had him hog tied and married before he could say, Gig Em Aggies! Patty left A&M for a time to start a family. Her first child, Will, was followed 13 months later by her daughter, Shannon. Six hours after Shannons birth, Patty was back at A&M to finish what she had started. It only took her eight years and she came away with a degree that made her proud. Pattys passion for education and children of all ages led to her involvement with the Junior Angus Association. She has always been Will and Shannons biggest fan, but she had enough encouragement, support and love to pass around to every kid who needed it! Pattys passion for life and for beef and the Beef industry became quite evident through her involvement with the American Angus Auxiliary where she was currently serving as president, and through her membership with Texas Cattlewomen on the State, local and national levels. Patty was all things to all people and a beacon of light to all those who had the pleasure of her friendship. Memorial was at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the family ranch in Bennington, Okla. Another memorial service for her friends will be held at 5 p.m. March 2, on Mason Mountain at Grote Angus Ranch in Mason, Texas. Because of her love for life and her genuine love for people, the family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be made to American Angus Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 3201 Frederick Avenue, St. Joseph, MO 64501 or Texas CattleWomen Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 545, Schulenburg, TX 78956-0545. The family wishes to thank all of those who sent their prayers. We know Patty heard them and is probably still checking her e-mails!
