Meeting him at the gate were his grandparents, Guinnea, Guindad, and Pa Pa. Dep is still a shining star in our lives. He was a kidney patient from birth, but it was never a handicap. Dep accomplished more in 26 years than most people do in a lifetime. He was an inspiration not only to his family, but also to friends and acquaintances. He had a brilliant mind and a kind soul. His sphere of influence was phenomenal. His family was his life. When he met his wife, Sharla, it was love at first sight. Their deep devotion and love produced Dyron Everette Powell III (Trace). Trace, Daddy’s Little Man, gave Dep 4 ¤ months of bliss. Trace still holds Daddy’s heart in his little hand. Dep aspired to be a wonderful father using his Dad, Dyron Everette Powell, as his role model. Dep never thought he had a hard life and delivery of another physical trial or tribulation might make him pause but he never gave up. He pushed forward with resolve as the rest of us attempted to keep up with him. Becoming a medical doctor was a burning desire. He was a third year medical student at International University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine and the founder and president of the IUHS Student Association. He was confidant and provided a quiet wisdom with guidance to students and faculty alike. In April he was elected International Trustee Associate of the American Medical Student Association. Due to his outstanding performance and first in his class, the IUHS Trustees granted his degree of Medical Doctor posthumously. At one time, Dyron was a volunteer paramedic with Cypress Creek EMS, and had worked as a senior in-charge paramedic with Coleman County EMS and Harris County ESD #1, both 911 services, as well as being a former owner of MedExpress Ambulance Service. His passion for seemingly hopeless causes led him to be a compassionate problem solver everywhere he went. His zeal for the "underdog" along with his own life experiences propelled him to have kind words and a steady hand reaching out to anyone who needed it. He attended North Harris Community College, Texas Tech University with an engineering scholarship and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He is survived by his wife, Sharla Denise Kleypas Powell; son, Dyron Everette Powell III (Trace); parents, Laura and Dyron Powell of Kingwood, Texas; grandmother, Margaret Powell, of Jal, N.M.; aunts and uncles, Trey and Polly Caraway, formerly of San Angelo, Andy and Cindi Caraway of Merkel, Karen Caraway of San Angelo, Glenn and Charlie Powell of Carlsbad, N.M., and Larry and Susie Wayland of Brownfield; and cousins, Kate and Kris Caraway of San Angelo, Drew Caraway of Merkel, Christopher, Treyla and Treyci Caraway, Bailey Browder, all of San Angelo, Eric and David Powell of Carlsbad, Sandi Schelhammer of Big Spring and Ginger Ritter of Lubbock. Dyron was welcomed into the Kleypas family and loved them dearly. His extended family will sorely miss him including parents, Erwin and Vernell Klypas of Rowena, Texas; grandmother-in-law, Alice Halfmann of Olfen, Texas; brother-in-law, Kent Klypas and wife, Tracy; sister-in-law, Vernay Powell and husband Gregory. Also nieces Morgan and Michaela Kleypas and Ashley Powell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins loved him and will miss him. Dep was laid to rest June 14, 2002. Pallbearers were Brad Sayles of Clearlake, Texas, Doyle Lowrance and Dr. Jeff Wang of Atascocita, Texas, Jeff Sloan of Dallas, Michael Mathena of Spring, Texas, and Jeremy Winton of Kingwood. Dep was honored by eight EMS and fire agencies from Harris and Montgomery County who presented a fifty member honor guard and provided a one mile escort of twenty emergency vehicles. The Last Call for Badge 4058, Dyron E. Powell Jr. was dispatched by Harris County 911 Communications Center. We thank Humble Northeast Hospital and ER, Kingwood Plaza ER, Texas Children’s Hospital and Methodist Hospital for all the years they took care of all of us. We extend our deep appreciation to Dr. Edmond Gonzales, who became more than a physician to Dyron, as well as Dr. Lugo-Miro, who is as much family as physician. We also thank Dr. Larry Tabor, Dr. Boone, Dr. Lerner and Dr. Goldfarb and his physicians. Dep was a gadget man from the time he was old enough to wire anything. He probably has the latest set of angel wings and already has modified them for speed and sound. While playing golf up there with his Pa Pa and Guindad, he will make time to play scrabble with Guinnea. We are sure he has a couple of student and professional organizations he is founding. St. Peter will indulge and love all of his suggestions for Dyron has made yet another eternal friendship. How do you describe a person like Dep, who touched so many people? His deep abiding love of God and his Savior held him and carried him through the depths and heights of his life. We are the people we are today because he touched our lives and inspired us. God is holding us all in his hands. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLAUDIA RAMIREZ Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/Knickerbocker Ms. Claudia Ramirez, 26, of Big Lake, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital.
