Richard went to be with the Lord after a sudden heart attack at his home. He was an adoring husband to his wife, Sylvia; a loving father to his children, Sarah, Stephen and Jacqueline; and proud grandfather of Christopher Ryan. Richard was a member of a migrant family attending two different schools every year as the family followed the cotton crops. He worked in building maintenance to pay his way through Angelo State University. After graduation, he moved to Pecos where he began a short career with the Texas Employment Commission. When offered a career opportunity within the banking system in Pecos, he accepted. He moved to Zapata in 1993, in his quest to advance in his banking career, accepting the senior vice president position, which he held until his death. The International Bank of Commerce had become a second family to a very family- oriented man. While in Zapata, he served several years on the Zapata County Fair Association, spearheading one of the most successful fairs in Zapata’s history. Richard was very proud of his association with the Boys and Girls Club of Zapata, recently serving on their board. Last year he, along with other community leaders, helped put together a toy drive with Zapata’s intocable that benefited many children who may not have otherwise had a Christmas. The Los Ebanos Golf Course benefited from his accounting abilities and much of its success can be attributed to his careful handling of the books. From humble beginnings himself, the thing that made him most proud, even more than his own accomplishments, was his children’s success. His chest was widest when Jackie cheered and won a prize, when Steve’s golf score improved and when Sarah added a few more hours toward her college degree. His grandson’s baptism a few weeks ago was a high point in his life. Mr. San Roman was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Petra San Roman. Mr. San Roman is survived by his wife, Sylvia M. San Roman; son, Stephen San Roman; daughters, Sarah San Roman and Jacqueline San Roman; grandson, Christopher Ryan Flores; and his sister, Sylvia and husband, Charlie Ramirez. She was 85. Formerly of Ballinger, she had lived with her daughter in Missouri City, a Houston suburb, for the past two years. Born in Hill County, Texas, to David Edward and Elizabeth (Underwood) Compton, she came to Runnels County as a child with her parents. The Comptons settled in the farming community of Norton, where they ran the local rural telephone company for many years. Bea graduated from high school in Ballinger and attended beauty school in San Angelo. She married J.C. Carter of Norton on Dec. 24, 1935. She started a beauty shop in Norton to help her husband as he started out in ranching. The couple ranched in the Oak Creek and Crews area for many years. Bea also owned another beauty shop in Ballinger. The Carters were married for 60 years. Her husband predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Carter of Missouri City, Texas; her son, Vance Carter and his wife, Joyce, of Memphis, Tenn.; her brother, Troy Compton and his wife, Margaret, of Scurry, Texas; and her two grandchildren, Sherry Carter and Michael Fredrickson of Missouri City, Texas. She is also survived by a young friend, Kathryn Kluge, who filled the role of great-grandchild. She also left behind three dear friends in Ballinger who comforted her before she moved to Houston, Willie and Betty Binder and Stella Webb, who provided almost daily visits. Bea Carter was dearly loved by her family for her sweet nature and her fun-loving ways. She was always willing to help those in need whether related to them or not. She had several caring individuals who provided personal care for her in her later years that the family wishes to thank, Janie Martinez, Pat Johnson and Gloria Brown. Bea was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and her funeral message was presented by the Rev. Kent Berry in Ballinger on Thursday, Aug. 22. She was eulogized by her niece, Dian Huddle; daughter, Beverly Carter; granddaughter, Sherry Carter; and cousin, Sally Lisso, who presented special “remembrances” of her at the funeral. Pallbearers were David Winans, D.B. Underwood, Randall Underwood, Mack Carter, Michael Fredrickson and D.B. Crockett. Arrangements were handled by Rains-Seale Funeral Home with interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. For those wishing to remember Beatrice Carter, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, Ballinger, TX 76821 or a charity of donor’s choice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
