After graduation from San Marcos State Teachers College at the age of 16, she taught school and then graduated from Tyler School of Business. Shortly after their marriage, the Cottinghams moved into their newly completed home, “El Ranchito,” in San Angelo, and it has been her home for over 70 years. She was a gracious and dignified person who exemplified feminine strength and worked along with her husband in the early “Oil Field Days of San Angelo.” She was a pioneer in organizing the bookkeeping and division orders for Independent Oil Royalty Owners. Rose enjoyed her yard and watching the sunsets from her long, front porch. She always fed the birds around her home and at Baptist Memorials Center. Miles, and her husband, Bradley, of San Angelo; and two grandchildren, Melanie Marie Hirschfeld and her husband, Wendall, of Austin and M.C. Cottingham “Cottie” Miles, and his wife, Ashley, of San Antonio. She dearly loved and enjoyed her two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Marie Hirschfeld and William Miles Hirschfeld, of Austin.
