Holland passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the age of 49, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Feb. 5, 1953, in San Angelo, Texas, to Mary Strain Holland and Jack S. Holland. Paul, as a child, was a very happy, smiling, loving child who never met a stranger. He grew into a man with the same qualities. He loved to work and always did his job with diligence and never shirked his duty. He was the first to offer a helping hand to any who needed it. All who met Paul loved him. He dearly loved his family and showed it. Paul went into the Marine Corps at age 18 in August of 1971. He was discharged in October of 1978. He loved his time spent in the Marines. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and Camp Le Jeune in North Carolina. He attained the rank of drill instructor prior to his discharge. Paul went to work for Cal-Gas after his discharge from the Marines. She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Merino, Colo. She married Bill Melvin in 1940, and they lived in Merino and later Sterling, where she was a homemaker and a member of the First Methodist Church. She later moved to Brush, where her husband was in a nursing home. She moved to Sterling City, Texas, in 1997 and resided at the Sterling County Nursing Home. While there, she was spoiled by all and loved every minute of it. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her father and mother, Anna and Anton Nelson; sisters, Selma Kerockney and Helen Aldrich and a brother, Ermal Nelson.
