ANDERSON Johnson's Funeral Home Wilbur Lee (W.L.) Anderson, 91, of San Angelo, died peacefully at his home Tuesday morning, March 11, 2003. A memorial celebration service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Wilbur Lee was born July 14, 1911, in San Angelo to Calvin Albert and Callie May Anderson. He was a lifelong San Angelo resident, Christian businessman, inventor, loving husband, father and grandfather. Wilbur was a man of many San Angelo firsts, the first nine year old to drive an automobile, first to build a crystal radio at age 12 to listen to lightning strikes (the closest radio station was in Fort Worth and out of range), the first chief engineer at San Angelo's first radio station at age 16, the first to erect a communications tower, the first to build a two-way radio system for police use in West Texas (the second in Texas), the first to provide mobile telephone and pager service, the father of San Angelo's first cable television system, the first to build a coin counting machine for parking meters, the first to build a radio fax machine in 1936, and the first to provide two-way radios in the Texas oil patch. Wilbur's inventing and tinkering nearly always led to humor. San Angelo's first radio equipped police cars lost their back seats to batteries, dynomotors and radio gear necessitated strapping criminals on the running boards and handcuffing them through the door posts for the ride to the station. On one particular trip on New Year's Eve, drunks were so numerous that officers tied a few across the fenders and hood. As the car crossed the railroad tracks at Fifth and Chadbourne and made the turn to the jail, a drunk staggered out of a bar and spotted some of his drinking companions tied across the middle of the street. As the officers approached, he yelled, "don't shoot, don't shoot, my Lord, their hunting us like deer." Wilbur was an active member and supporter of the ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church. He, along with his wife, established Western Communications Service, Western Community TV and Western Towers. Above all, he was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and served him faithfully throughout his life and did all things as to the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Anne. He is survived by two sons, Charles A. and wife, Kathy, of San Angelo and Daniel and wife, Debbie, of San Angelo; one daughter, May Sandison and husband, Doug, of Friendswood, Texas; seven grandchildren, Noel and wife, Katrena, D'Arcie and husband, Chad, Kacie, Amiee, Jacob, Ginnie and Garret; one great-grandchild, Joshua David; and one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Marie McDougal of Cisco and Dorothy Richardson of Cisco. Pallbearers will be Richard Killingsworth, John Miller, Robert Villerreal and grandsons, Jacob Anderson, Noel Anderson and Garret Sandison. Honorary pallbearers will be Tino Sanchez, Sam Mabry, Cart Jones, Leonard Layne, Fred Knoesel and H.C. Reichenau. The family wishes to thank doctors Ty Hughston and Carl Anderton, the nursing staff of 5 North at Shannon and Hospice of San Angelo, as well as all of Wilbur's relatives and many friends for their support. The family requests memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hospice of San Angelo or to a favorite charity. HENRY R BANNERT Johnson's Funeral Home Henry R. GLORIA SCHULTZ ENOCHS Kerbow Funeral Home ELDORADO - Gloria Schultz Enochs - her name was perfect because she glorified the Lord with her gift for music and her embodiment of a positive, Christian life on earth. Gloria was born on Jan. 30, 1926, in Somerville, Texas, and was given eternal life on March 13, 2003, in Trophy Club, Texas. Gloria was the only child of Fred H. and Mabel Couch Schultz. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1942 and attended Blinn College in Brenham, and then Tyler Commercial College in Tyler. In 1943 she met J.P. (Pat) Enochs while he was stationed at Fort Fannin in Tyler. It was an instant attraction that would lead to 53 years of romance, devotion and loyalty. They married just six weeks later on Aug. 28, and Pat's Army duties took him and his bride to Camp Blanding, Florida. When Pat was called to active duty in 1944, Gloria moved back to Somerville to await his return and the arrival of their baby. Their only child, Patricia Diane, was born in 1945 when Pat was stationed in Italy. When he returned home from the war, "Tissie" became the light and joy of their lives. Upon his discharge from the Army, the family spent two years in Somerville, and then moved to Pat's hometown of Eldorado, Texas, in 1947, where he was elected County and District Clerk for Schleicher County. During this time, Gloria was employed by the Benton Abstract and Title Company and the Meador Abstract Company in Eldorado. Gloria retired in 1998 as the Veteran's Service Officer for Schleicher County. She established her involvement and influence in the community through her founding membership in the Tuesday Bridge Club and dedicated membership in the First Presbyterian Church. For many years, Gloria's musical knowledge and passionate expertise on the piano and organ graced church services. Gloria's life revolved around music, family and friends. She loved being at home and in her kitchen, and everyone in the surrounding counties knew they would be welcome at her kitchen table for a cup of coffee. She probably served more coffee than all the Starbucks put together! In 1997, her life companion and loving husband, Pat, died, but after a couple of years Gloria moved to Trophy Club, Texas ,to live with Tissie and Merlin. For the next four years, she was right in the middle of family fun and action, enjoying her granddaughters' college experiences, career life and Kristin's wedding. Gloria's dry humor and tell-it-like-it-is attitude brought laughter and wisdom to the home, and she always had a good story for visitors. Gloria is now reunited with Pat and many friends in heaven and will forever be a guardian angel to her family: daughter and son-in-law, Tissie and Merlin Hauan of Trophy Club; and grandchildren, Julie Hauan and Kristin and Michael Jolly of Lewisville, Texas. When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little - but not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me - but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone. It's all part of the Master's plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, Go to the friends we know. And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me - but let me go.
