She was born to Dolores and Aurelio Aguilar on May 27, 1911, in General Zepeda, Coah., Mexico. Prudencia came to the United States at the age of 18 months. She was a lifetime resident of Eldorado, Texas. Prudencia married Martin Belman Sr. in July 1929. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1947. Prudencia was naturally intelligent and hardworking and was a woman of wisdom. She was a devout Catholic and soul devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. A rosary will be read at 7 p.m. at Kerbow Funeral Home in Eldorado, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Eldorado. Interment will follow in Eldorado Cemetery. BLACKMON Shaffer Funeral Home BRONTE - The Rev. R.W. Blackmon passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home in Bronte, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Blackmon; and a son, Ronald Terry Blackmon. He was also preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Central Baptist Church in Bronte, Texas, with graveside to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Burtis Williams and the Rev. T.C. Melton of Abilene will officiate. The Rev. Blackmon was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Houston County, Texas. While working in the East Texas lumber industry, he was called to the ministry and was ordained in 1946. His service to the Lord would continue for the next 57 years. His final stop would be for retirement in Bronte, Texas. Since that time, he served as interim pastor at Central Baptist Church, bus driver and grounds keeper for Bronte ISD and as pastor at Silver Baptist Church. In addition to his service at the church and the school, he also was very active in the community as a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and the East Coke County Nursing Home Board. Papaw Blackmon, as he was known by his family, is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Bette and Jerry McCutchen and Sue and Eddy Spiller, all of Bronte; along with four grandsons, Terry and Carol McCutchen, Johnathan and Lana McCutchen of Abilene, Keven and Sherri Spiller of Jayton, Kelly and Jennifer Spiller of Del Rio; eight great-grandchildren who were the delight of his life also survive him. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Etta was born Oct. 7, 1908, in Merkel, Texas, to Samuel W. and Delilah Jane Taylor. She was a saleswoman at Hemphill-Wells for more than 20 years and a member of First Baptist Church. Etta also was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E.T. (Tommy) Clay; three brothers, Burley, Willis and Owen Taylor; five sisters, Oma Robertson, Ida Higgins, Lura Blackburn, Clara Lambert and Vera Johnson; and her sons-in-law, Cliff Pumphrey and James G. Broman. Survivors include her daughters, JoAnn Pumphrey and Joyce Broman, both of San Angelo; grandchildren, Cindy Harbuck and husband, Ike, of Austin and Scott Broman and wife, Edie, of San Antonio; great-grandchildren Michael Harbuck and Melissa Harbuck of Austin, and Kendall Broman, Brandon, Denton and Brittney Thomas, all of San Antonio; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. OLGA FAYE HANKINS CLOUDT Kerrville Funeral Home KERRVILLE - Olga Faye Hankins Cloudt, age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerrville. She was born May 22, 1926, to Jess L. and Olga Burney Hankins in Buffalo Gap, Texas. Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the First Presbyterian Church of Rocksprings, Texas, with the Rev. Will Bigott officiating. Visitation for Mrs. Cloudt will be at the church from noon Saturday until the service. Burial will follow in the Rocksprings Cemetery. Olga had many joys in life: among them were reading, painting and cooking. She loved wildlife of all kinds. Olga took great pleasure in her goats. She named them and recognized each by their names. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a long time member of the Duplicate Bridge Club of Rocksprings as well as a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Rocksprings. During the 1950s and 1960s she was a Republican Party delegate. Mrs. Cloudt enjoyed the quiet, sedate life of country living. She married her childhood sweetheart, D.L. Cloudt with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage this past April 3rd. She was dedicated to her son, chauffeuring him around the state supporting him in all his events. Once her grandchildren started to arrive, she increased her dedication to each of them as well. Above all, she was a lady. Mrs. Cloudt is survived by her husband, D.L. Selma Harris McGuire was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Miles, Texas, to Artie and Roxie Holland Harris. She married Lloyd (Dugan) McGuire on Oct. 19, 1935, and was married for 42 years. They were given three gifts from God in the form of one son and two daughters. She was employed as a cafeteria manager for the San Angelo Independent School District and retired after 24 years. MILDRED HILL HASTINGS Johnson's Funeral Home Mildred Hill Hastings, 93, of San Angelo, wife of the late Guy W. Hastings, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003. She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Giddings, Texas, to William Carol Hill and Estella Edith Dusty Hill. After graduating from Giddings High School, she moved directly to Houston where she was employed at IBM and remained with the company for many years. As a loyal employee, she became a pioneer for women in the business world, holding both administrative and managerial positions commonly offered at that time only to men. She served in various positions overseas, earning the highest respect and admiration from her co-workers as well as the CEO's. She continued to improve her qualifications by attending the University of Texas and the University of Tulsa. Her unceasing quest for knowledge maintained the high standards and goals she always set for herself. In later years, the arts played a most important part in her life when she discovered a hidden artistic talent. These years were most satisfying as she found the utmost joy in creating her lovely oil paintings. Because of her expertise, she became a teacher and was able to give her students the same love of expression. To be in Millie Hastings' class was not only rewarding because of the skills taught, but also because of the honest, caring person she was. She had a terrific sense of humor that brought so much joy and laughter to everyone. She had an abiding faith and deep reference for all God's creatures. In her life, she was very involved with volunteer work. As an example, she tried to rehabilitate the alcoholic and the drug addict through painting lessons, hoping to instill in them a desire for a better life. She gave her time and energy to hospitals seeking to ease the pain of others and often in private homes. She was a generous, caring person, a Christian and a member of the Episcopal Church. We shall miss her. She is survived by her niece, Nina Faye Pechal and husband of Spring, Texas; her niece, Virginia Ritter and husband of Friendswood, Texas; her stepson, Arthur Hastings; a great-niece, Stephanie Patton of Tulsa, Okla.; great-niece, Camille Converse of The Woodlands, Texas; and countless friends. HENRY FORREST (WOODY) HEDDEN Robert Massie Funeral Home Henry Forrest (Woody) Hedden passed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2003, after a valiant three-year struggle with lymphoma. He was born Feb. 23, 1939, in San Angelo, Texas, to Henry W. Hedden and Georgia Mae Poss Hedden. He lived his entire life in the Wall and San Angelo area and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, worshiping at Southgate Church of Christ. Woody graduated from Wall High School in 1957, and worked briefly at several jobs before joining the San Angelo Fire Department in 1960. During this time, he spent six years in the National Guard, serving almost a year of active duty in Fort Polk, La. He attended Midland College, taking several courses pertaining to Fire Science. He retired from the San Angelo Fire Department as a captain in 1990. At a young age, Woody began showing he had a talent for doing his own mechanic work and a talent with carpentry tools. He always took pride in keeping his vehicles in the best possible condition. He also used his unique understanding of carpentry to earn part of his living for 38 years on the days he wasn't on duty at the Fire Department. He installed dry wall in many San Angelo homes, apartments and businesses for several years before finding a more satisfying occupation in remodeling and adding onto homes and businesses. He became unable to continue this line of employment in early 2000, when he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma. Woody and Lou Ann Summers were married in August 1962, and shared a love for family, animals and camping trips. Through the years, he developed a love of horses and pleasure riding. He often would join friends for trail rides in various parts of Texas and locally. Woody was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Henry; and a grandson, Aaron. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lou Ann of San Angelo; daughters, Brenda Butler and her husband, Tommy, of Winters, Pam Wade and her husband, Jackie, of Wall, and Chelsea of the home; and his mother, Georgia Mae of San Angelo. Also surviving is one of the joys of his life, his granddaughter, Kimbri Wade of Wall; and grandsons, Brandon Strickland of Amarillo and Caleb Nichols of Crowell; sisters, Sandra of San Angelo, and Ann Allen and her husband, Andy, of Christoval. He also is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nadine Nibling and Ila Mae Bullion; four brothers-in-law, J. A. Summers and wife, Joyce, Douglas Summers, Harvey Summers and wife, Genie, and Phil Summers and wife, Nonie; aunts, Edith Schroeder and Sarah Hook; special aunt and uncle, Pirla and Bill McAda; and numerous cousins. WILKINS B HOPPE Rains-Seale Funeral Home BALLINGER - Wilkins B. Hoppe, 91, of Ballinger, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Golden Acres Nursing Home, Dallas Home for Jewish Aged. He was born April 10, 1911, in Hatchel, Texas, the son of Adolph G. and Annie Baumann Hoppe. A retired civil engineer, stock farmer, and lieutenant colonel, United States Army Reserve, he is survived by two daughters, Deanna Bates and her husband, Dr. Robert Bates, of Tucson, Ariz., and Dr. Joanne Hoppe of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Leona Voss of Sweetwater; brothers, Calvin Hoppe and wife, Mamie Gene, and Glenn Hoppe and wife, Melba, both of Winters; and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife of 56 years, Faye Edwards Hoppe; his aforementioned parents; and three siblings, Elsie Mae, Leland and William preceded Mr. Hoppe in death. A 1938 graduate of Texas Technological University in Lubbock in architectural engineering, Mr. Hoppe served 38 years in the Texas Department of Transportation. From his beginning in Junction in Kimble County in 1938 as a roadman, he retired in 1975 as senior resident engineer of Runnels County. During this period he oversaw the completion of paved farm-to-market roads, divided highway and the replacement of steel truss bridges with reinforced concrete ones over the North Concho and the Colorado rivers. In 1941, Mr. Hoppe enlisted in the United States Army, graduating as second lieutenant from the Fort Belvoir Officer Candidate School in Alexandria, Va., and served in Unit 801 of the Corps of Engineers in the Azores in the North Atlantic Ocean, where he was instrumental in building the airstrip that was used in the recent meeting of President Bush and the President of Spain, and the Ryukyu Islands in the Western Pacific Ocean, where as a captain, he and the company he commanded specialized in military airports. In 1946, when Mr. Hoppe resumed his civilian engineering career, he also continued his military career by joining the United States Army Reserve, from which he retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1971. In recent years, he was a stock farmer in the Crews community. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Winters. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, in Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Military graveside service will follow in the Old Runnels Cemetery. GLADYS ESTELL KILGORE Johnson's Funeral Home Gladys Estell Kilgore, of San Angelo, age 95 years, 11 months and 22 days, went to be with the Lord at 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003. Gladys was born May 13, 1907, in Ellis County, Texas, to Ed Patterson and Georgia Carver Patterson. She was an inspector for Dickies Corp. during World War II and for many years later. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She always knew how to make people smile and show them she cared. She had enough love to go around for everybody. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mildred Jayme. Gladys is survived by one son, James Hayworth and wife, Joyce, of Wolf City; daughter, Christine Moya and husband, Joe, of San Angelo; eight grandchildren, Danny Jayme of Lubbock, Carolyn Kerby and Glenda Chrane Bailey, both of San Angelo, Joe K. Gladys "Mama Billie" will be missed by everyone. ROGER DEAN KIRSCHBAUM Eden Funeral Home EDEN - Roger Dean Kirschbaum, 24, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Community Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1978, in San Angelo, Texas. He was a computer technician. During school he was in ROTC and received TAAS recognition in math, reading and writing, and also was a drum major in 1993-94 at Robert E. Lee Junior High School. Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Eden Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Eden First Baptist Church officiated by Mark Bethune. Graveside service will follow in Eden City Cemetery. Robert Massie Funeral Home Charles Moore Jr. died Saturday, April 5, 2003. He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Shamrock, Texas, the only son of Charles Quimby and Clara Crim Moore. He grew up in Ralls, Texas, and moved to San Angelo in 1928 where he attended San Angelo High School and San Angelo Junior College. He married Wilma Leatherwood on March 2, 1940. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2003. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was stationed for a time at what is now Mathis Field and later in Fresno, Calif. After returning to San Angelo in 1945, he rejoined his father in business. He worked in the auto parts business for a number of years before retirement, then retired a second time from San Angelo Company as credit manager. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher - and a driver for the first church bus, the old "Christian Creeper" restored and cherished by the CYF of the late '50s. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Richard Gary; and a son-in-law, Jim Nickles. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Nickles; two grandsons, Brian Nickles and his wife, Melissa and Michael Nickles and his wife, Teri; and two special great-grandsons, Trey and Jeffery. Over the past seven months, the entire staff of Robert Lee Care Center has surrounded Daddy with tenderness and affection. They truly made it his home. There are no words to express our gratitude. We also are very grateful to Tawnia, Oleen, Dolly and Rachel of VistaCare Hospice for their faithful and loving attendance to his needs. Our prayer was that Daddy would be led gently Home, and all of you comforted him on his path. Because travel for many in our family involves long distances, which they made only nine weeks ago when Mother died, there will be a graveside memorial service the second week of June when we are all together again. PATRICIA KAY MURRAH Mason Funeral Home MASON - Patricia Kay Murrah of Llano passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the age of 57. She was born in Brady, Texas, on Feb. 5, 1946, to Valton and Marvin Murrah and Ola Pearl Holt Murrah. Patricia was a resident of Llano for many years and worked for Wal-Mart in Marble Falls for 18 years. She is survived by her mother, Pearl Murrah of Mason; two daughters, Lakay Homesley and husband, Wayne, of Llano and Deana Kenner and husband, David, of Llano; and a son, Wade Halliburton of Dallas. She is also survived by a sister, Lorae White of Mason; three grandchildren, Alex Homesley, Kimitha Halliburton and Steton Watson; a nephew, Dub White; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that will miss her. Pack, 75, a supermarket manager for 45 years and local resident for 30 years, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, after a long illness. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Belmore Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Perrine was born June 9, 1934, in San Angelo. She married Robert Perrine on Feb. 22, 1952, in Portales, N.M. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Perrine. Mrs. Perrine was the secretary at Belmore Baptist Church and was president of the Concho Valley Government Employee Credit Union. She is survived by her husband, Robert Perrine of San Angelo; two sons, Keith Perrine and wife, Noma and David Perrine and wife, Becky, all of San Angelo; two daughters, Denise Wamer and husband, Kenneth, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Kimberly Perrine and mate, David Robertson, of San Angelo; seven grandchildren, Heather Kilgore and husband, Tony, of Irving, Hayley Perrine of San Angelo, Shaun Wamer of San Antonio, Amanda Mosely of Fort Worth, Jeff Perrine, Justin Perrine and Shelby Robertson, all of San Angelo; one brother, Freeman Boatright of McKinleyville, Calif.; one sister, Nadine Byrne of San Angelo; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Shaun Wamer, Jeff Perrine, Justin Perrine, Jimmie Byrne, Clyde Byrne and Pete Boykin. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, in London Cemetery in London, Texas. Troy was born on July 12, 1932, in Blair, Okla., to Thomas Jack and Vivian Louise Portwood. He was a Marine for five years and one month. He served in the Second Platoon, 1st Engineer Battalion in Korea from 1952-1953. Troy was a machinist for 12 years, a press operator in Hollywood, Calif., and had many other jobs in Oregon, Tennessee and Florida. He loved Texas and his grandparents' ranch in Lometa. He loved to read and write. He was very talented and loved to grow trees and plants, go fishing and animals. He loved God, his family and good people. He will be missed enormously. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Refugio Portwood of San Angelo; son, Billy Jack Portwood and wife, Nora, of Kodiak, Alaska; daughters, Laura E. God watched as you suffered and knew you had your share. He gently closed your weary eyes and took you in his care. God has you in his keeping and we have you in our hearts. Fleta will be missed by all her family and friends.
