Baty Jr., 75, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in a local hospital. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, with Dr. Bill Shiell, of Southland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. L.B. was born May 14, 1927, in Gilliland, Texas, to L.B. and Beatrice Baty. L.B. married Nina Lee Clark Feb. 4, 1946, in Seymour, Texas. He served in the United States Army in World War II before starting work in the highway construction business with J.H. Strain and Sons in Abilene for 25 years and in San Angelo for Reese Albert Inc. for 30 years up through his retirement in 1989. L.B. was a strong family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. In retirement, he was able to focus all of his attention on them from teaching the granddaughters to drive and running them around and to traveling with Nina. He taught his family a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility combined with an attitude of fairness to everyone. His friends were special to him and he always had a smile and usually a joke for them. He enjoyed the outdoors his entire life and spent many happy days hunting with family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteering to support the Meals for the Elderly by driving Nina as she delivered meals. Survivors are his wife, Nina Baty of San Angelo; son, Gary Baty and wife, Mary Louise, of South Australia; daughter, Vonda Sanders and husband, Frank, of San Angelo; grandchildren, Tiffany Ashley of San Antonio, Heather Ashley of Austin, and Amber and husband, Brad, of Tulsa, Okla.; and great-grandchild, Ashlyn Bryant of Tulsa, Okla. Pallbearers will be James Alexander, Lee Box, Gene Cook, Bill Denton, Charlie McDonald and Frank Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Reese Albert Inc. friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the Angelo Community Hospital ICU nurses and doctors who took such excellent care of L.B. DOYLE CONDRA Rains-Seale Funeral Home BALLINGER - Doyle Condra, age 83, of Ballinger, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 11, 2003. He was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Winters, Texas, to Jim and Mary Clayton Condra. He was raised in the Benoit and Talpa area. He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1937 and married Ella Witter on June 15, 1941. Doyle served in the United States Army during World War II, returning home to run his ranch near Benoit. He was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger. He was a member of the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and was a past director of district 4. He served with the Ballinger Rotary Club for over 50 years and was proud of the fact that he had the only classification in the world, as far as he knew, as a Sheepherder instead of Shepherd. He served many years with the Boy Scout Council in San Angelo and was able to watch many young men receive their Eagle Scout status. Doyle was very active with the Runnels County Farm Bureau and Texas Farm Bureau, serving as a former state director and currently serving as a past president and director of Runnels County. He received the Texas Farm Bureau Pioneer Award in 2001. Doyle was also active with the Ballinger VFW and served as a reserve deputy for the Runnels County Sheriffs Department. His parents, two sisters, one brother and two half-brothers preceded him in death. Doyle is survived by his wife, Ella Condra of Ballinger; a daughter, Barbara Condra Johnson of Ballinger; a son, Gary Condra of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Ginger, Clay, Valerie and Merinda; and five great-grandchildren, Tasha, Tracey, Kaitlyn, Marley and Tanner. The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Rains- Seale Funeral Home. MARY JOSEPHINE LONGLEY CURRY SONORA - Memorial service for Mary Josephine Longley Curry, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in Crockett County Care Center in Ozona, will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Sonora, Texas. Mrs. Curry was the daughter of pioneer ranchers, Cam Longley and Josephine Young Longley, living in Crockett, Terrell and Val Verde counties since the early 1900s. The youngest of five children, Josephine Longley was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Ozona and attended Ozona public schools and San Marcos Baptist Academy. She married William Calvert Curry, a pharmacist, in 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Curry lived briefly in Sanderson and Lubbock before settling in San Angelo where Mr. Curry owned Curry Drug Company. In San Angelo, Mrs. Curry was a member of the "32 Club," The Eastern Star and The Daughters of the Nile organizations. After Mr. Curry's death in 1967, Mrs. Curry moved to the Longley home in Del Rio to care for her mother. While in Del Rio, she enjoyed her lifelong hobby of painting in the mediums of oil, pastel and china. She was a member of The Del Rio Porcelain Arts Club and the First Christian Church of Del Rio. For the past four years, Mrs. Curry had been a resident of Crockett County Care Center in Ozona. Preceding Josephine Longley in death were her parents; her husband; her sister, Gretchen Longley Word; three brothers, Glen Lawley Longley, Cole Young Longley, Col. Cam Longley Jr.; and grandson, Alan Neil Emery Jr. Survivors include a son, Virgil Chrane; and two daughters, Virginia Calvert Curry Epps and husband, Ben, of Sonora and Josephine Kay Curry Emery and husband, Neil, of Langtry. Mrs. Curry's grandchildren include Donald Loding Campbell and wife, Ruth Ann, of Sweetwater, Cam Longley Campbell and wife, Erika Jane, of Sonora, Calvert Curry Campbell and wife, Bonnie Lou, of Sonora, and Kimberly Kay Emery Lozano and husband, Eddie Lee, of Langtry. ELOISE HUNT DAVIS Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary UVALDE - Eloise Hunt Davis died at home on Mother's Day, May 11, 2003, after a lengthy illness. She was 82. Born June 1, 1920, to Myrtle and Tillman Hunt, she was raised in Kinney County. After graduating from Brackettville High School, she enrolled at Texas State College for Women, now Texas Women's University in Denton and earned a degree in business administration. Eloise married Warren Paul Little of Comanche on July 23, 1940. He was wounded in combat during the D- Day invasion and died July 27, 1944. She then taught at Brackettville High School for several years. On May 29, 1946, she married Lloyd Lee Davis of San Angelo, a former Air Force pilot during World War II. This was the beginning of a 47-year union in which they devoted themselves to each other, to raising their family, and to ranching. He died on Dec. 26, 1992. One of the many memorable occasions of those years was the celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary in 1986, hosted by their children and their spouses. Eloise was preceded in death by a son, Robert Davis. She is survived by her children, Paul Davis of East Hampton, N.Y., Nan Coates of Mertzon, Helen Cates of Uvalde, Lloyd Lee Davis Jr. and Zack Davis, both of Brackettville, Diane Williams of Austin and Jamie Ballew of Brackettville; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Helen Kreiger of Brackettville; and brother, Clay Hunt of Brackettville. JESUS C DOMINGUEZ Johnson's Funeral Home In the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 13, 2003, Jesus C. Dominguez, 92, went to his heavenly home. Mr. Dominguez was born on Oct. 28, 1911, in San Angelo. An accomplished entrepreneur, he founded and developed several thriving businesses, including trucking, property management and coin-operated Laundromats. He was an avid fisherman and world traveler. Mr. Dominguez is survived by his loyal partner, companion and wife of 70 years, Leonor Martinez de Dominguez; his son, Jesse Dominguez of San Angelo; his daughters, Ana Troyanovich of Corpus Christi, Arabela Zuniga of Anaheim, Calif., Imelda Flowers and Angelina Sepeda, and a sister, Isabel Wuertenburg, all of San Angelo. Mr. Dominguez was preceded in death by two sons, Ervey and Jaime Dominguez, and a grandson, Steven Dominguez, all of San Angelo; a granddaughter, Carolyn Zuniga of Anaheim, Calif.; and by four brothers and two sisters, all of San Angelo. MELBA JEAN (CLIFTON) ELMORE Condra Funeral Home TAYLOR - Melba Jean (Clifton) Elmore, 74, of Taylor, died at her residence. Mrs. Elmore was born in Hedley, Texas, on Dec. 22, 1928, the daughter of Eva (King) and Barney G. Clifton. Until her retirement, she had been employed as a medical supply clerk for the state of Oklahoma for 25 years. Her parents and two brothers, Harold and Benny Clifton, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Clevenger of Taylor; a brother, Bobby Clifton of Borger; three grandchildren, Jason Clevenger, Shawn Clevenger and Stephanie Clevenger; and three great-grandchildren, Kenny, Kyle and Mikayla. Evans, 85, of San Angelo, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in an area nursing home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, in the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Carol Fiero, of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Thelma was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Merkel, Texas, to Willie and Kathryn Patterson. She married Ray O. Evans in 1939 and moved to San Angelo in 1972. Thelma's love and kindness for others directed her into a career of nursing. She graduated from Shannon School of Nursing in 1936. Thelma worked at Herman Hospital in Houston for many years. She was head nurse at Central High School for 13 years. Although her career took time from her family, she always managed to find the time to be the best wife, mother and grandmother. Thelma made a lot of friends throughout her career. She will be missed by her family and friends. Survivors are her husband, Ray O. Evans of Midland; daughter, Ann Armstrong of San Angelo; granddaughter, Diana Browning and husband, Richard, of Odessa; grandsons, Evan Armstrong and wife, Kathy, of Waco and Drew Armstrong and wife, Jenny, of Arlington; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Browning and Davis Browning, both of Odessa, and Gavin Armstrong of Arlington. Srader and Elizabeth Arline Meurer. DELLA LOUISE FITZHUGH Porter Loring SAN ANTONIO - Della Louise Fitzhugh, loving mother, wife and friend passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2003. Della was born Sept. 19, 1911, to Futha and Mattie Higginbotham and raised with her five sisters on the family ranch near Bronte, Texas. After attending Mary Hardin Baylor College and the University of Texas, she taught school in Blackwell and Water Valley before marrying Fitz in 1935 and moving to Menard. They moved to San Antonio in 1938 where they have since lived and raised their family. Della was an active member of the Travis Park Methodist Church, the P.E.O., Kings Grant Garden Club and other civic and church-related groups. Throughout her long and productive life, Della was blessed with a sound mind, sharp wit and profound commitment to Jesus Christ. Survivors include husband, H.A. Fitzhugh; son, Hank Fitzhugh and wife, Nancy; daughter, Chita Harris and husband, Lee; sister, Betty Jane Hughes; grandchildren, Nicol Fitzhugh, Stephen Harris and Daniel Harris; and stepgrandchildren, Justin Harris and Lisa Dowdy Fitzhugh. Msgr. Sylvester Fuchs and the Rev. Bernard Gully presiding. Burial will follow in St. Ambrose Cemetery. Walter was born June 25, 1920, in Westphalia, Texas, to Anton and Bertha Engelhart Fuchs. He was the fifth of nine children. He grew up in Westphalia, leaving school to work on the family farm. He served his country for three and one-half years in the United States Air Force as an Air Force mechanic during World War II. He married Adeline Gully on June 16, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rowena, Texas. He began farming and raising his family in Vancourt. He loved farming and continued to do so until his health no longer permitted him to continue. His children all attended school in Wall where he served on the school board for 15 years. He was a faithful member of St. Ambrose church in Wall, where he was a member of St. Ambrose Men's Society. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Adeline; five sons and four daughters, Dennis Fuchs and his wife, Barbara, of St. Lawrence, Texas, Fred Fuchs and his wife, Jane, of Austin, Texas, Ralph Fuchs and his wife, Roxann, of Hanson, Kan., Doris Hoelscher and her husband, David, Dolores Fohn and her husband, Gerald, all of San Angelo, Bernie Fuchs and his wife, Jackie, Bill Fuchs and his wife, Amy, all of Vancourt, Cathy Timmer and her husband, Jim, of Southlake, Texas, and Joann Moeller and her husband, Richard, of Paint Rock; 28 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are one brother, the Rev. Msgr. ALICE LEWIS HAMNER Heritage Funeral Home MENARD - Aline Lewis Hamner of Kaufman, Texas died at 9:10 CST on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in Louisville, Ky. She was the mother of the late Craig Lewis Moore of Houston, Texas, and the wife of the late Arthur Henry Hamner of Kaufman, Texas. Mrs. Hamner was born in Menard, Texas, on June 22, 1922, and lived a great part of her life there until she was married to Mr. Hamner. She graduated from Menard schools and attended Texas Christian University and the University of Texas. She was an interior decorator in San Angelo for several years. Mrs. Hamner was a descendant of pioneer Texas families. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. William M. Lewis; her grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Smart and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Winslow Lewis, all of Menard, Texas. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church where she grew up. She was also a member of National Society Magna Charta Dames, The Sovereign Colonial Society Americans of Colonial Descent, The Colonial Order of the Crown and the Plautagent Society. Survivors include a granddaughter, Kerry Nicole Moore of Houston, Texas; her sister, Mrs. E. Logan Brown (Mona Lewis Brown) of Shelbyville and Louisville, Ky.; her nephews, E. Box 237, Menard, Texas 76859. TAYLOR "TAY" HARRIS Johnson's Funeral Home Taylor "Tay" Harris, 89, a longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away May 14, 2003, at his home Wednesday morning. Tay was born in Cooper, Texas, Jan. 10, 1914. During his childhood, he lived in Paris, Texas, and Fort Worth and moved to San Angelo in 1928, where he later graduated from San Angelo High School. He served his country in the Army in 1942. In the late 40's, he moved to California where he attended the University of California, Los Angeles and worked part-time as a chauffeur for MGM Studios. He returned to San Angelo and married Clariece Smith in 1947. He later went to work for Gandy's Dairy as a hotshot driver and held many positions throughout his career with Gandy's. He worked in Route Sales and Advertising. He moved his family to Midland in 1964 where he was manager of the Midland-Odessa branches. He was promoted to vice president and retired in 1978. After his retirement, he moved back to San Angelo. Tay was very active in the San Angelo community and in several civic organizations. He enjoyed being involved in the establishment of the San Angelo Boating Club, promoting the West Texas Boy's Ranch, the Kiwanis Club and the High Sky Girls Ranch in Midland. Tay will be remembered for his gentle compassionate heart, which drew people to him, as he shared his love with them. He was known for his giving spirit, big smile and his love for his family, to which he was known as "Poppy." He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Clariece Harris; son, Taylor Harris of San Angelo; three sisters; three brothers; and when you're 89, many friends. Tay is survived by his son, Hilton Harris and wife, Monette, of San Angelo; two brothers, Bill Harris of California and Jay Harris of Louisiana; grandson, Taylor Hicks Harris, three granddaughters, Courtnie Harris Wagner, Tesa Harris Foster and Cindy Bailey, all of San Angelo; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Ralph was married to Dorothy J. Ogden on Oct. 1, 1949, in Brady, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Dot Harrod of San Angelo; son, Jim Harrod and wife, Kathy, of Houston; daughter, Cindy White of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Jason, Chris, Patrick, Linsey and Erin; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Payton. DARIAN KYLE KISER Johnson's Funeral Home Darian Kyle Kiser, 33, of San Angelo, Texas, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his residence. Darian was born March 18, 1970, in San Angelo. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1988. He was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church where he was baptized by the Rev. Scooter McCurdy on June 21, 1998. After learning from his older brother, David, Darian became a master flooring installer for Kiser Carpet where he trained many of the installers that work there today. Darian was a fisherman, not unlike what God wants us to be. He did not give his crew the fish; he taught them and they now provide for themselves and their families. Mr. (Pop) Knight was born April 27, 1913, in Hanceville, Ala., to Elonzo and Nancy Knight. He was one of 12 children. He moved to Texas where he met and married Clyde Josephine Sawyer in 1937. He farmed and ranched until the drought of 1953. At that time, he became a welder. Pop retired from Voget Welding Co. in 1978, but continued to weld part time and mowed lawns. He would mow and edge free if someone couldn't afford to pay him. He was well known for his favorite foods; pinto beans, cornbread and homemade ice cream that he often took and shared with others. Floyd was loved for his ready laugh, generous nature and helping hands. He obeyed the Gospel at an early age and attended Churches of Christ faithfully until he was physically unable to do so. Pop's son, Don Knight and his wife, Lois, cared lovingly for Pop after he became increasingly ill. We especially thank Floyd's niece, Frances Knight, for all she has done the last years with love. Also, our appreciation goes out to his caregivers, Ruthy Brawley, Marsha Roche and Frank Martinez. Close to Pop's heart were grandsons, Don Jr. and his wife, Darcy and their daughters, Krista and Trina of Midland and Jerry and his wife, Kristy, of Bryan, Texas.
