Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Wall Brethren Church in Wall, Texas, with the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating. Mr. Boyd was born to James and Maggie Hammans Boyd on Feb. 21, 1925, in Mitchell County. He married Minnie Strain on Sept. 16, 1951, in Colorado City. She preceded him in death. He was a member of the Wall Brethren Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and loved to fish. He is survived by two daughters, Janice Goff of Austin and Barbara Robinson of Round Rock; four grandchildren, Jarrod Goff of Carrolton; Luke and wife, Mandy Robinson, of Leander, and Zeb Robinson and Mindee Robinson, both of Round Rock; and one sister, Macelene Cox of Colorado City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Melvin Boyd and Rayford Boyd. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 15, at the funeral home. RICKEY PERRY BUNKER Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home ABILENE — Rickey Perry Bunker went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003. Born to mother, Donna L. McGinnis and father, Brian A. Bunker, who will love and miss him very much. Ruby was born on May 8, 1927, in Childress, Texas, to Gussie Alfred and Bessie Sanders. She is survived by two sons, Bill Woodfin and wife, Pat, of Midland, Steve Woodfin and wife, Mary, of Stanton; two daughters, Sue Botkin and Sandy Heath, both of San Angelo; one brother, Billy Joe Sanders of Abilene; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews DARRELL (RICK) CRAIGER Johnson’s Funeral Home Darrell (Rick) Craiger of Paint Rock, Texas, left the ones who love him on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003. He was born to C.W. and Lorene Craiger in Harrah, Okla., on Dec. 21, 1949, and baptized at Sulfer Baptist Church. He served seven years in the Navy and 28 years at Gilbert X-ray as a service engineer. Rick Craiger will be remembered as a man of great strength and knowledge. In addition to his own son, he raised nine stepchildren as if they were his own, instilling the importance of education and independence. Rick Craiger touched the lives of everyone who knew him and even some that did not know him. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading and spending time with his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father, C.W. Craiger; and brother, Clyde Craiger III. HERBERT W (CORKY) FIELDS JR Kerbow Funeral Home SONORA — Herbert W. (Corky) Fields Jr. was born Oct. 1, 1945, in Big Lake, Texas, to Herbert Wardlaw Fields and Loise Lewis Fields. Corky graduated from high school in Sonora in 1964 and attended Texas Tech University. He moved to Houston, Texas, in the late ‘60s and was a self-employed real estate broker in that city. Corky was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two brothers, Dr. John Fields and his wife, Jeryl, and Tryon Fields and his wife, Cindy, all of Sonora; as well as five nephews and nieces, Amy Fields Youngblood of Tucson, Ariz., Becca Fields of Lubbock, and Tanner Fields, Sean Fields and Kayla Fields, all of Sonora. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in Sonora Cemetery. GENEVA C FINCK Johnson’s Funeral Home Geneva C. Finck, 91, died in her home Friday morning, Aug. 8, 2003, in San Angelo, Texas. She was born Sept. 19, 1911, in Snyder, Texas, to Robert Elmo Curry and Annie Elizabeth Grey. She married Edmund Henry Finck on Feb. 21, 1952. An educator for 36 years, Geneva taught in the San Angelo Independent School District and the Midland Independent School District. She spent 18 years in the classroom before assuming a supervisory and consulting position until her retirement in June 1969. Geneva graduated from San Angelo High School in May of 1929. She attended John Tarleton before going to Sul Ross State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in science. She later attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tenn., where she earned her master’s degree. Geneva began her teaching career in a rural, two-room schoolhouse at Klattenhoff near Miles, Texas. She taught at Klattenhoff from 1932-40, while spending her summers going to classes at Sul Ross. Her second school was in Knickerbocker, where she taught from 1940-41, before moving to San Angelo. There she taught at Santa Rita, her third school, before moving to Midland with her husband, Edmund, in 1957. In Midland, Geneva and Edmund were avid gardeners and members of the Midland Rose Society. Together they raised many award-winning roses. They also acquired a registered Pomeranian, “Pomi G,” who stole their hearts and minds, even making a splash on the Midland Reporter-Telegram’s Society Page. Geneva traveled extensively in her lifetime, visiting Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Mexico and China. She enjoyed sipping coffee at St. Moritz, dwelled upon Byron’s famous prisoner while touring the Castle of Chillon, and rode the rails of the legendary Ojinaga-Los Mochis train through Copper Canyon, Mexico. She and Edmund also traveled extensively throughout the United States. Geneva was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women for two years. Other professional organizations included president of Delta Kappa Gamma Epsilon Eta Chapter in Midland 1966-67 and vice president of the Hill Country Retired Teachers in Kerrville. In her late years, she was a regular volunteer at Angelo Community Hospital, where she contributed more than 1,400 hours of her time. Geneva is survived by her brother, Victor Elmo Curry of San Angelo; niece, Jo Ann Alvarez of Fort Worth; nephew, Robert Roger Curry of Corpus Christi; niece, Gwen Curry Nugent of Lincoln, Neb.; nephew, Gilbert Dale Story of Fort Worth; nephew, Ronald Elmo Curry of Austin; nephew, Mark Thomas Story of Dallas; and many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, former students and friends. A graveside service will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in Miles Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church downtown, 37 E. Beauregard, San Angelo. Raymond was born on May 12, 1925, in Grow, Texas, to Raymond and Minnie Hailey Sr. He served in the United States Navy as a radio operator on a Destroyer Escort during World War II. He was a retired peace officer, having served in the Sheriff’s Department in Lubbock and Tom Green County. He loved hunting, fishing and was an avid fan of professional rodeo. Leon was born on May 24, 1918, in Florence, Texas, to Carl and Verdie (Dixon) Kincaid. He served in the Army during World War II with the 158th Artillery Battalion in Central Europe. He was a sergeant at his discharge in 1945. Leon married Helen Berg on April 10, 1949, in Ballinger, Texas. He worked as a welder, farmer and for WTU in McCamey until his retirement and moving to Cisco. Leon and Helen attended the First Christian Church and in his retirement Leon started to work at the Western Auto until a few years ago. Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon, and her husband, James L. Arnold, of Bryan, Texas; two grandsons, James Michael and Kevin Shawn Arnold; a host of friends; and other family members. RONNIE LYNN MCFADIN G.W. Cox Funeral Home DEL RIO — Ronnie Lynn McFadin was born March 8, 1942, to C.A. and EvaLee Slemmons McFadin in Iraan, Texas. He grew up in the Iraan-Sheffield area and attended Iraan High School, where he graduated in 1960. He then attended Sul Ross State University, where he played collegiate football for the Lobos. He graduated in May 1965 with a bachelor’s of science degree in range and animal science. In August 1965, he began his teaching and football coaching career in Alpine, Texas, and married Karen Lynne Wolf in September of the same year. To this union was born a daughter, Elizabeth Lynne, and a son, Seth Andrew. After three years at Alpine, Ronnie returned to Sul Ross for a second degree in industrial arts. He taught one year at Eagle Pass before moving to Del Rio, where he remained for the tenure of his teaching and football coaching career. Ronnie retired from the Del Rio school system in the spring of 2002 after many years of faithful and diligent service to the students and community. Ronnie passed away on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, following an accident at his home near Del Rio, Texas, at the age of 61 years. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, C.A. and EvaLee Slemmons McFadin; and a sister, Maxine McFadin Tipton. He is survived by his wife of 37 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth (Beth) and Weston Walker of Dadeville, Mo.; his son, Seth McFadin of Del Rio, Texas; two brothers and their wives, Bud and Patsy McFadin of Victoria, Texas, and John and Mary McFadin of San Angelo, Texas; a host of cousins; nieces and nephews; his children’s godparents, Fred and Joanna Rose; and countless friends and former students. Ronnie was dearly loved and admired by all who knew him. He had a great impact on innumerable lives because he always was willing to give of himself in whatever capacity was called for. MILTON MACARTHUR RAGSDALE AUSTIN — Milton MacArthur Ragsdale, age 85, of Austin, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003. He was born on May 31, 1918, in San Angelo, Texas. Milton received a degree in electrical engineering in 1941 from the University of Texas at Austin. He immediately started active duty with the Navy, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatre as a commander. He served as electronics officer in charge at the Naval Ordinance Experimental Unit the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., for four years. He also served at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. He retired from active duty in 1952 to help with his father’s H.C. Ragsdale Auto Company in San Angelo, Texas, along with his wife, Eleanor B. Ragsdale. He was a member of the board at Ragsdale Auto until 1959. From 1960 until he retired in 1974, Milton served as chief of the Apollo Mission reliability operations for NASA. After his retirement, he served as president for MR Investment Inc. and Triangle Building Company. Both corporations were co-ddeveloped by Milton and his wife, Eleanor Ragsdale. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor B. Ragsdale; and mother and father, H.C. and Hermione Ragsdale. He is survived by his five children, son, John Henry Ragsdale, daughter, Anne Kirlin-Kelly and husband, Neil Kelly, son, Mac Ragsdale and wife, Mary Ragsdale, daughter, Dr. Helen Ragsdale and husband, Terrell Williams and daughter, Irene French and husband, John French Jr. Milton is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. HENRY DWIGHT SEARCY Henry Dwight Searcy, 70, of San Angelo, died after a brief illness in a Las Vegas, Nev., hospital on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003. Dwight was born in San Angelo to Agnes and Henry Searcy on Dec. 2, 1932. He served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1950-53. He was attached to the 1st Division Marine Corps in Korea for a year in 1951, and for his distinguished service was awarded a commendation ribbon (combat “V”) along with two bronze stars (combat “V”) and a Purple Heart. Dwight and Kay Young Searcy, also of San Angelo, were married on Nov. 20, 1954. Dwight was in sales for 45 years, and as a result, had the respect of friends all over Texas and New Mexico. Dwight’s survivors include Kay Young Searcy of San Angelo; daughters, Deborah Searcy of El Paso and Michelle Treadway and her husband, Bill, of California; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Sidney Winski and Deana and Pat Gibson. Also surviving are grandchildren, James and Raymond Whipple and William, Andrew, Emma and Britton Treadway. Dwight was a loving husband and father and was devoted to his grandchildren. He was a good friend, and will be missed by all who knew him. After marriage, they lived in Weed, N.M.; Andrews, Texas; and then moved to Barnhart, Texas, in 1950. He retired as district foreman from the Barnhart Highway Department in 1980 after 30 years of service. He and Lois then moved to Christoval to enjoy fishing, gardening and spoiling the grandchildren. He loved to garden and gave away lots of his produce to his special friends in Eldorado. He traveled to Eldorado every day, always enjoying his visits with the coffee drinkers at Shot’s.
