Doris was born on Nov. 10, 1925, to Dick E. Easterwood and Ruthie Z. Magers in Eden, Texas. She married her true love, James Houston Lay, on Dec. 7, 1943, in the U.S. Presbyterian Church in San Angelo. They were blessed with three sons and one daughter, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Erma Lee. Doris spent most of her life as a homemaker, worked as an LVN, and later as an Avon Representative. She spent many hours researching her and her husbands family trees in order to pass that unique history onto her family. She loved to read Gods word and many other books. She received much joy while raising poodles and horses. Doris loved the outdoors and could tell many stories of her hunting and fishing adventures with her family. She was a storyteller, weaving stories about her childhood with little animal characters, which entertained all of her grandchildren. She was a talented artisan, decorating her home in paintings, crocheted afghans and doilies, quilts and embroidered heirlooms. She clothed her children and made dolls for her grandchildren. She was a patient teacher, passing on her talents to anyone willing to learn. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and could make the worst-sounding recipe turn out as a masterpiece. Doris was a devoted wife to James for 59 years through good times and bad, keeping her family intact and healthy. As her mother and mother-in-law aged, she cared for them as a mother cares for her children. Doris loved each and every one who came into her family in very special ways as only a mother and grandmother could. She had a sparkle in her eyes that let you know that her love for you was just for you . . . something special. She leaves behind many extended family by whom she was adored as sister, aunt and cousin, as well as the fruits of her and James love: her children, James Douglas and former wife, Davella, and Billy John of San Angelo, Bobby Don and wife, Tony, of Menifee, Calif., Doris Virginia Brock and husband, Jessie, of Grape Creek. Her grandchildren are Dee and Perry, Jeremy, Bobby and Alicia, Tommy and Eileen, Barbara and Dale, Jenaeve, Lori, and Jessie Lee and Chandra. Her great-grandchildren are Davannah, Jamie, Stefan, Oleah, Kent, Noah, Donovan, Zavier, Giovanna, A.J. and Alex. Doris was a lady you could laugh with, cry with, argue with and play with and never be afraid to be yourself with. She was loved by many and will be missed until we meet her in heaven. Proverbs 31 describes a wife of noble character, whom she was and her children all arise and shall always call her blessed. Pallbearers will be her favorite son-in-law Jessie Brock, grandsons, Bobby, Tommy and Jeremy Lay, Jessie Lee Brock and Perry Philipp. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Chester McCowen at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Calvary section of Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. A TIME FOR US Theres a time and place we have yet to know, Theres a sea we have yet to sail; And though we saw the mountain long ago, Its the peak we have yet to scale. Theres another world we have yet to find, Theres a world we have yet to lose; And theres a winding road we have left behind, And another yet to choose. And theres a tender journey yet to take, A sun that waits to rise; A lot of promises we have yet to make, Of days well spend my friend, in each others eyes. And there will be other songs for us to sing, And that place we have yet to be; And there will be time enough for everything, A time for life . . . A time for love . . . A time for us. . . A time for you . . . A time for me. [hd_memorials.gif] Post a memorial Back THE REV PETER VERGAUWEN Rains-Seale Funeral Home THE REV PETER VERGAUWEN BALLINGER The Rev.
