God looked around his garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain, He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone. Ethene has now hung up her hat, Levis and spurs, and pushed her boots under her bunk. Happy trails, Ethene. A private burial will be held at a later date. Johnson's Funeral Home GRACE HOLLAND MOODY TERRELL Grace Holland Moody Terrell - "Chic" - of San Angelo, Texas, was born May 21, 1917, in Sherman, Texas, and left us on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. At the time, she was living in the Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg, Texas, a facility managed by her daughter, Suzanne Mitchell. Chic was a beautiful, loving, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Chic was born and grew up in Sherman, Texas, and lived several years in Fort Worth when her late husband, Tol, was the administrator of Harris Hospital, and then the rest of her life in San Angelo, where Tol headed Shannon Hospital until his death in 1982. Chic mothered four children, Charles Toliver Terrell Sr. of Dallas, Mary Nelle Cummins of McKinney, Suzanne Terrell Mitchell of Fredericksburg and Hal Moody Terrell of Long Beach, Calif. She was the mother-in-law of Beverly Kennedy Terrell of Dallas and Don B. Cummins of McKinney. She was the grandmother of eight. She was Cacky to some and Gacky to others. They are Catherine Terrell Williamson of Birmingham, Ala., Charles Toliver Terrell Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Diane Cummins of Haslett, Mich., Donna Cummins Floyd of Fort Worth, Texas, Steve B. Cummins of Joshua, Texas, Tammy Mitchell Smith of San Angelo, Texas, Michelle Mitchell Lay of Abilene, Texas, and Michael Terrell of Austin, Texas. And she had 18 great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and had great opportunities to do so when her husband was chairman of the American Hospital Association and the American College of Hospital Administrators during the 1950s and 1960s. She mailed Texas horned toads to friends across America and Europe. Chic made sure her children went to Sunday School and taught them to never have religious or ethnic prejudice toward others. She was a practical joker at heart and to her children's delight, her favorite target was her husband. She also had fun with her sister, Nelle, who hated chocolate covered cherries. At Christmas, Chic would have friends across the country send Nelle disguised boxes of them. Chic played favorites with her children. Her favorites were always the ones going through troubles or health problems. Eight years ago when her oldest son was hospitalized and paralyzed for six months, she flew to Dallas, checked in the Baylor Hospital hotel, and helped with the visitations daily. She became the housemother of the floor he was on. All of her family will dearly miss her. Her children know that they could never have had a more loving and caring mother. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering. He knew that you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, 'Peace Be Thine.' It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home." Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Ozona Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. He was born June 19, 1918, in San Angelo to Dr. and Mrs. A.W. Clayton. His father was a "horse and buggy" doctor in the pioneer area of Ozona and later in San Angelo. He and his family also were involved in several ranches near Ozona. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary W. Clayton of Ozona; a son, Joe Clayton Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Mills County; a grandson, Christopher Clayton and wife, Cindie, and children, Ali and Claire of Brownwood; a granddaughter, Catherine Prince and husband, Tim, of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Cheryl Clayton of Crockett County; special friend, Monte Noelke; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His own business career began as a young boy trading guinea pigs and marbles, and he moved naturally into trading livestock in his adult business life. His principles developed when contracts were oral and those principles continued after business practices changed. One friend said, "Joe never knew how to cheat, much less renege on a trade. He bought thousands of sheep on his word." Another profile of Joe's character comes from a younger friend: "Once Mr. Clayton and I made a bet on how much our partnership ewes sheared, and he held the pot. He called one night and said, 'You won.' It took me five years to realize that he didn't want to beat a young man at a game he knew so well." One big pleasure in his retirement was golfing with his friends and traveling with his wife. Another was matching (out matching) his daughter and son guessing the cattle weights. Joe Clayton leaves us with the memory of a kind, loving and generous man who showed us by his example and principles how to treat others and how to live our lives. Pallbearers will be Craig Williams, Gene Williams Jr., David Williams, Michael Williams, John Walsh, Warren Chirhart, Warren Hemphill and John Hemphill. Honorary pallbearers will be his close business associates and members of his extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Joe Clayton Scholarship Fund at West Texas Boy's Ranch, 10223 Boy's Ranch Road, San Angelo, TX 76904, or a charity of choice. Tia put up a good battle with diabetes until the good Lord took her home. We will all miss her pretty smile, and her warm laughter and hugs. Tia is no longer hurting. She is now in peace and resting with the Lord, walking hand in hand with the Lord Jesus Christ. The family and relatives would like to thank Sherry M. Bales D.P.T. and the staff of SCCI for their patience, strength, support, and compassion for our Tia Mary Ann. We all miss and love her. Footprints One night a man had a dream... He was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the sky flashed scenes from his life. In each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one made by him and the other by the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked at the footprints in the sand, and noticed that many times along the paths of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it hap-pened at the worst times of his life. This bothered him, so he asked the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But, I've noticed that during times of trouble there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why You left me when I needed You most." The Lord replied, "My precious child, I love you and would never leave you... During your times of trouble where you see only one set of footprints, I was carrying you."
