"You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek…well done, good and faithful servant." January 20 FRED TEAGARDEN Fred Teagarden, a lifelong resident of San Angelo, happily exchanged his earthly habitation for a heavenly one on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. Fred was born to Hazel and Joe Teagarden in San Angelo on Dec. 26, 1918, and was retired from a long career in the painting business. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Veda; one son, Fred Teagarden Jr. and his wife, Anna, of Water Valley; one daughter, Kay Lemmons and her husband, Gene, of Grape Creek; five grandchildren, Ted Teagarden of San Angelo, Amy Teagarden of Water Valley, Tim Teagarden of Carlsbad, Angie Covey of Grape Creek and Andrea Boatright of Grape Creek. Fred was also blessed with eight great- grandchildren, Krysta Demere, Chase Demere, Kristin Covey, Cole Covey, Brandon Boatright, Ashley Teagarden, Emily Teagarden and Tanner Teagarden. Fred is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Norma Boone of Jackboro, Texas, and Ms. Peggy Teagarden of Costa Mesa, Calif. Fred was a kind, gentle and deliberate (sometimes downright slow) person and this behavior earned him the nickname of "Pokey" by one of his grandchildren. Soon after being pinned with this name, almost everyone affectionately knew him as Pokey. He was an avid outdoorsman and passed his hunting and fishing skills (and endless tales) to as many as would listen. He leaves many converts to this love behind. His passion, however, was his music and he played his violin and listened to violin music at every opportunity. At the end, his music was of great comfort to him. While he never played professionally, some of his fondest memories were the times he was asked to play at his (Hillcrest) Baptist Church. Fred was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a gunner on the B-24 bomber and later as an armament technician. In 1943, his aircraft group was en route from Buckley Field in Colorado to England when it was recalled for service on the West Coast. Because of the extremely high losses of aircraft over Europe at the time, Fred saw this recall as likely saving his life. He saw some action in the Pacific during the battle for the Aleutian Islands. Pokey will be greatly missed by his family and friends in this life and they are all looking forward to being with him in the next. When we get there, he will likely give us a hug, offer us a cup of coffee and tell us a new story. If we are not careful, he will pull out his fiddle and show us how much he has improved since we saw him last. I can hardly wait! Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Johnson's Funeral Home, followed by graveside service in Miles. Services will be led by Jim Wilkerson, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Ted Teagarden, Tim Teagarden, Dean Teagarden, Keith Covey, Dick Schlosser and Archie Wagner. Pat Barnett was born in Arkansas and was raised in St. Louis, Ill. She moved to Iraan, Texas, in 1958 where she met and married Billy Barnett in July 1958. She had two boys who loved her dearly. In 1987 she not only was "Mama" she also became "Nana." Nana touched the lives of all those around her, especially those who were closest to her. She loved life and all the adventures that went along with it. She was an active participant in the game of life. Nana was always up for an opportunity to get out of the house, to watch one of her grandkids or just to sit down and play a game. Nana loved kids and was a friend to all of their friends. There wasn't anything that you couldn't talk to Nana about. She passed no judgment, but if you asked her opinion about something she definitely gave one. She was always there when you needed her. She especially loved Brandy, Billy, Guy and Garrett. I do not know if she bragged to her friends about them, but everyone could tell that she did by looking into her eyes. Many of Nana's days were spent at baseball, softball, football, basketball and soccer games. She loved watching her grandkids, but most importantly she loved being a part of their lives. Nana did not believe that this was the end; she knew that it was only the beginning. This was just a step to everlasting happiness. She wrote, "Don't pity me, love me like you used to, I'm the same person I've always been. Just because I'm sick doesn't mean I have no pride, no dignity, no feelings. Your heart is good, your loves is good, God is happy." The family would like to thank the West Texas Cancer Center in Odessa for their dedication and hard work. We would also like to thank her very special friend in life, Jody. She has always been a friend to us, but more importantly to our mother. She is survived by two sons, Billy Barnett of Mertzon, Texas, and Bobby Barnett of Odessa; and four grandchildren. Graveside service will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 22, in Restland Cemetery in Iraan, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Cancer Society. Frank W. Kenneth passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 in Odessa. The son of a Pentecostal minister, Kenneth grew up with a deep traditional faith. He loved the old hymns, like "I'll Fly Away" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Kenneth came to Odessa in 1966 from Andrews. He worked for Great Western which later became Loffland Bros. He quit in 1980 to start Burnsco, which specialized in blowout preventer repairs, which he owned for 24 years. He was well known in the oilfield and knew pretty well all there is to know about the oil industry. Kenneth loved ranching and loved his ranch in Robert Lee. He had 310 acres on which he raised buffalo, goats, burros, cows and horses. He loved to sit and just count them all. It is said that he loved his ranch so much that within five minutes of any conversation, he would bring up either the ranch, his livestock or his pond. When the lake started to dry up, Kenneth built his own pond. He would have it stocked with 18 to 24 pound catfish, just so he could fish with his good friend, Dr. Life Barnard. Kenneth was not a man to show partiality to anyone, rather he loved all his family the same. Loved them all so much, in fact, that he bought them all Hummers; little yellow Hummer models. Kenneth loved toys such as RC cars and singing fish. But his all-time favorite toy was his backhoe. Kenneth was a hardworking man, who was loved and respected by many people. He will be deeply missed. Kenneth was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Ferguson; and brothers, Junior, Sherril, Moran, and Aaron Burns.
