Her grandfather, Chief John Parker, served as San Angelo's first paid fire chief for more than 30 years. Margaret lived in Terrell County near Sanderson as a ranching wife and mother. She enjoyed her gardening, beautiful yard and country living but had to retire to the city, due to ill health. Actually, in her heart she never left the "country." She fought a courageous battle in the last years to overcome her illness and was said to be "the toughest woman I ever knew." She thoroughly enjoyed her computer and had a special interest in her church, The Independent Christian Church. She was generally in good sprits, even with her health problems, but could get a "tad" waspy if she was riled! Her beliefs were strong and steadfast. Johnson's Funeral Home IMOGENE HARWELL GUYTON BRADY - Imogene Harwell Guyton of San Angelo passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in a local nursing home. Imogene was born on Jan. 23, 1920, to Ona and William H. "Hamp" Harwell in Ringling, Okla. After graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 1937, she and her family moved to Los Angeles, Calif. When World War II ended, a close family friend convinced her to move to Wink, Texas. She met Barton R. Guyton in Wink, and they married on Dec. 10, 1948, in San Angelo. After living in various Humble oil field camps in West Texas, she and Barton and three children moved to Andrews, Texas, and lived there until Barton's retirement in 1966. They later moved to San Angelo in 1970, where she and Barton continued to live until her death. Imogene was proud of her Indian heritage and showed her fighting spirit until losing her battle with Alzheimer's disease. As the eldest child of four children, she took on many tasks and adventures not seen in women in earlier days. She could ride a horse before she could walk, and at the age of 12, she and her 9-year-old brother drove cattle from Ringling to Wichita Falls, spending the night alone under the stars. Always independent and headstrong, she secretly took flying lessons when she was 18 and had enough hours of flying time to solo until her mother found out and made her quit. She loved children and animals and passed on her love and compassion for animals to her children. During the years, the family adopted a few chosen pets; however, most were abandoned and hurt animals, ranging from dogs and cats to a crow and white mice. Gene's hobby was growing orchids, and she gave them to many friends and family members and at times sold them to local florists.
