"Dee" Wilson, 84, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Robert Lee. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with co-pastors Craig Myers and Glenda Harbert officiating. Dee was born June 17, 1919, in Tynan, Texas, to his parents, James Silas William and Ella Mae Hammond Wilson. He attended school at San Angelo Central High School. Dee was a World War II veteran, serving three years and eight months in the Army Air Corps overseas in England, Africa and Italy. He worked for R.M. Minton and then Trucker Drilling Company, retiring after 22 years. Dee married Alyce Psencik Wilson on May 16, 1946, in San Angelo and they shared 57 beautiful years together. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Owsley and Minnie Lott; and two brothers, Silas and James "PeeWee" Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Alyce; two sons, Billy Wilson and wife, Dorinda, of Knickerbocker and Gary Wilson and wife, Ruby, of San Angelo; grandchildren, Blaine Wilson and wife, Tina, of Wall, Randall and Scott Wilson of San Angelo and Clayton, J.J. and Taylor Wilson of Knickerbocker; two great-granddaughters, Michaela and Mackensie Wilson of Wall; one sister, Marge McGowan and husband, Mac, of Axtell; several nieces and nephews; and s pecial friends, Don Seale, Sam Baze, Grady Moorman, Ruben Rodriguez and Mac McGowan. Johnson's Funeral Home MINNIE KENNEDY JACKSON WIMBERLEY - Minnie Kennedy Jackson, 100, a longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Hays Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in San Marcos, Texas. She was born on Jan. 20, 1904, in Quintana, Texas, the daughter of John and Minnie Kennedy. She was a graduate of Freeport High School and Sam Houston State University, before coming to San Angelo in 1926 to teach at Harris Avenue School, which later became Lamar Elementary School. In 1942 she married Pat H. Jackson, a prominent West Texas rancher. They maintained their residence at the Cactus Hotel for a total of 50 years. Mr. Jackson died in 1960. Mrs. Jackson continued ranching in partnership with her brother-in-law, Wren M. Jackson, until 1967 when the partnership was divided. In the division Mrs. Jackson received the Lampasas County Ranch which she continued to manage under lease to Morris Vann of Lampasas. Mrs. Jackson was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo, a member of the San Angelo Country Club, the River Club and the Fort Concho Bridge Club until she moved to Austin in 1993. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie Kennedy; her husband, Pat H. Jackson; four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her nieces, Evelyn Biggar, Center, Texas, and Janelle Dow, Cypress, Texas; nephews, Horace E. Wilson, Wimberley, Texas, and Conrad Kennedy, Beaumont, Texas; great-nieces, Monica Dirba, Pflugerville, Texas, Karen Scott, Llano, Texas, and Cathy Haydon, Frankfort, Ky.; great-nephews, Will Kennedy, Mellbourne Fla., Harold Kennedy, Gig Harbor, Wash., Owen Eaton, Pecatonica, Ill., Buddy Wilson, Wimberley, Texas, Marc Wilson, Wimberley, Texas; and a great number of great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Thomason Funeral Home LA VERNE BOWMAN La Verne Bowman, age 84, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at her residence. She was born on Dec. 11, 1919, in Fisher County, Texas, to William Robert Powell and Roberta Farmer Powell. She married Earl Bowman II on Sept. 22, 1939, in San Angelo. Earl and La Verne owned and operated the family business, Earl Bowman Auto Wrecking, for many years. Their son, Earl Bowman III, and his family still operate the business. She is survived by her son, Earl Bowman III and his wife, Glenda; a grandson, Earl Bowman IV; a granddaughter, Randye Leigh Bowman, all of San Angelo; a brother, Billy Powell of Big Spring; a sister, Pauline Derrington of Lamesa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and nine brothers and sisters. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Fairmount Cemetery with Charles Young officiating. Johnson's Funeral Home THETA MAE PUCKETT Theta Mae Puckett, 81, of Big Lake, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Reagan Memorial Hospital in Big Lake. Theta was born on Jan. 25, 1923, in Mission, Texas, the daughter of Ira and Chloe Riley. She attended Millersview Schools and graduated in May 1940. Following graduation from high school, she attended North Texas State University. On Feb. 14, 1943, she married A.W. "Poss" Puckett. They made their home in Big Lake and spent their entire lives in the community. Theta and Poss raised two daughters, Ann and Denna. Theta went back to San Angelo College and acquired her teaching degree in 1965. She taught first grade and kindergarten at Reagan County Elementary for 18 years. Theta was active in the First United Methodist Church for her entire life. She enjoyed gardening and gladly helped maintain the church grounds. She was a devout Christian and loved her family, school children and fellow church members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Poss, in 1990; and her brother, Dr. John Denny Riley, in 1991. Theta is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Keith and Ann Ferrell of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Bill and Denna Lindsey of Rankin, Texas. She was the loving grandmother of four, Robert and Angie Williamson of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Will and Lauren Lindsey of Rankin, Texas. Also surviving are a brother, Col. Martin E. Riley of Arlington and a sister-in-law, Vashti Riley of Fort Worth. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at First United Methodist Church of Big Lake with the Rev. Willie was born on Feb. 11, 1914, in Evant, Texas, to William Charles and Bertha Ann Blackburn McGuire, one of six daughters and five sons, and was the last surviving daughter. She married Vernon Franklin Murphy on June 17, 1945, in Los Angeles, Calif. He preceded her in death in January 1972. She was retired from the home health and caretaking profession after many faithful years of service. Survivors include her son, Kenneth P. Murphy and friend, Sue McFarlane, of Ballinger; brothers, Kenneth McGuire of Beckville, Texas, and Edwin McGuire of Santa Fe, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, including Dale Monse and wife, JoAnn, and Myldred Terry and husband, J.B., all of Ballinger. Numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great- great-nephews also survive. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sylvester and the Rev. Clarence Kelly of Lake View Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Dial was born on Aug. 29, 1923, in Delta County, Texas, to Jim and Girda George. Dial married Pauline Crosswhite on June 21, 1941. He had many talents. Among his jobs were working at Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. and laying hardwood floors in Army bases in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona until he went in the military service. He worked at Los Alamos that was a top secret military base. After boot camp he served with the 316th Combat Engineers of the 91st Division in Italy. After his military duty, he drilled water wells and worked for Santa Fe Railway. Dial became a self-employed building and remodeling contractor, also welded and worked in many projects at Goodfellow Air Force Base and San Angelo. He worked in many towns in the surrounding areas. He enjoyed hunting and spent many happy hours on the Rio Grande River with friends fishing. He also raised Boer goats and enjoyed spending time with them. Dial was a member of Twin Buttes Fishing Club. Dial accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the year 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, James and Henry; and grandson, the late Phillip Riley Gotcher. Mr. Richardson was born on Oct. 5, 1911, in Rockwood, Texas, the son of Marvin Allen Richardson and Grace Milligan Richardson. On June 12, 1938, he was married to Era Hill in Santa Anna, Texas. They came to Artesia in 1949. His wife preceded him in death on April 19, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Dudley; and by brothers, Cecil Richardson, Eugene Richardson and J.P. Richardson. He attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and graduated from the Anderson School of Operations and Engineering in Los Angeles, Calif. He was also a graduate of the Royal Air Force School in Salisbury, Wiltshire England and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Richardson was a banker for 60 years, working for First National Bank in Santa Anna, Texas, and was executive vice president and director of Peoples State Bank and Western Bank in Artesia. He served as director and treasurer of the Bank Administration Institute, Sunland Chapter; president of Group Three of the New Mexico Bankers Association, where he also served as treasurer; and as a member of the association's agriculture committee. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; life member and former president of Artesia Downtown Lions Club; and was member of the Masonic Lodge and the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include sisters, Joyce Cooper of Snyder, Texas, Loyce Phenix of Mission, Texas, and Edith Jennings of San Angelo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ross, age 83, of Miles passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born on Nov. 18, 1920, near Deleon, to Cora Etta Bays and Morgan Davis Ross. He was named after the Rev. Reuben "R.D." Davis, who founded the First Round Grove Baptist Church in Earth County and the Liberty Baptist Church in Deleon. R.D. married Faye Jeanne Dawkins on June 9, 1948, in Fort Worth. He served his country in World War II, in Normandy, France and Central Europe. He received many medals and awards for his service. R.D. worked on many ranches in the early years of his life in Post, Kermit and Muleshoe. He then worked many years in the oilfield before retiring. In 1982, they moved to Miles, where they enjoyed raising livestock and gardens, growing fruit and making wine. The family would like to thank Carolyn and Tina Garcia for the care and attention they extended to R.D. during the past year. He grew to love them like his own family. Visitation for family and friends will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at First Baptist Church in Miles with the funeral to follow at 3 p.m. with Brother Eddie Tingle officiating. He was born Dec. 26, 1924 in Jacksboro, Texas, to Bertram and Viola Mae Green Fox. He married Wanda Jewel Trigg on Sept. 29, 1951, in Jacksboro. Leroy worked in San Angelo for International Harvester Tractor and retired from Ford Tractor as parts manager. Survivors include his sons, James Fox and wife Tammy of San Angelo, and Tim Fox and wife Valerie of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Alyssa Fox and Blake Fox of Fort Worth, and Jamie Fox, Devin Fox and J.C. Fox of San Angelo; a sister, Lois Clerihew of Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, and a grandson, Seth Fox. Johnson's Funeral Home KERMIT R. THOMAS SAN ANTONIO - Kermit Roosevelt Thomas, 74, of San Antonio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 9, 2004. He was born on Aug. 23, 1929, in Philadelphia, Miss., to John Albert and Mary Ann (Johnson) Thomas, who preceded him in death. He lived in San Antonio for nearly 28 years. He was dedicated to and loved his family very much. His wife was his life, joy and true love. His children were his greatest source of pride and happiness, and his grandchildren, son-in-law and daughter-in-law were a source of delight. He was a man of God who served his church throughout the years in many capacities. He served in the U.S. Air Force, serving his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rev. Eva M. Patsy was born Dec. 28, 1912 in Georgetown, Texas to Lee Andrew Wilkerson and Bessie Miranda Herrin Wilkerson. She was a lifelong member of the Eden United Methodist Church. Patsy was a very special lady and she was very dear to the community. She will be missed by her family, her many friends, as they were her extended family, and everyone in Eden who knew her. Lorene was born on April 20, 1913, in Bethel, Texas, to Herman and Annie Wiesepape. On April 10, 1936, she married her beloved Waldemar "Wallie" Ehrig. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1963. Lorene will be remembered for her hard work, love of children, and her great cooking. Her coffee cake and homemade rolls were enjoyed by her family on many a Sunday afternoon. She worked hard on the farm, in the cafes and hardware store in Miles and running a laundry and day care business from her home. Her greatest joys were teaching children in Sunday school and keeping her three granddaughters when they were young. She is survived by her son, Charles Ehrig and wife, Lea, of Miles; daughter, Shirley Morton and husband, Chuck, of San Angelo; three granddaughters, Vivian Tipps and husband, Billy, of Houston, Paige Cates, and Tracy Hastings and husband, David, of San Antonio; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Leann Tipps of Houston and Korson Hastings of San Antonio, plus many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ken Granzin, David Hastings, Emilio Puente, Robert Sklenarik, Billy Tipps, and Mitchell West. He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked for the IRS for 35 years. He was active in the Clyde City Council for 13 years and was a member of the Broadview Baptist Church. Foy enjoyed Stock Farming and gardening. He loved his family very much and had a deep faith in the Lord. Arthur married Donna Carley, Sept. 1, 1964 and they lived in San Angelo one year before moving to Dallas, where they lived for 38 years. Johnson's Funeral Home February 17 TALMA GENEVA SCOTT Talma Geneva Scott, a longtime resident and business owner, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004. She was born on Dec. 9, 1916, to Frances A. and Floyd Kelley in Port Arthur, Texas. When she was young, her family moved to San Angelo, where Geneva graduated from San Angelo High School in 1933. That same year she married her life mate, Roy Scott. In November of 2003, they were married 70 years. Along with Roy and son, Dale, she owned and managed Scott Nursery for many years. These were some of the happiest years because of the many friends she made. She was a longtime member of Edmond Boulevard Baptist Church. Geneva had a great love for her husband, children and grandchildren. She also loved to have big family gatherings with lots of good food. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Glynda Ellison. Geneva is survived by her husband, Roy Scott; sons, Dale Scott and wife, Maribeth, and Randy Scott and wife, Vicky; daughters, Dorothy Harvey and husband, Sam, all of San Angelo, and Kay Bruton and husband, Donnie, of Ballinger; seven grandsons, Kenneth Harvey, Donnie and Kevin Bruton, Jeremy, Jeff and Cody Scott and Shannon Scott; four granddaughters, Dene Scott, Ashley Scott, Jenetha Moran and D'Ann Freeman; seven great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Barbara was born on June 22, 1933, in Wewoka, Okla., the daughter of Cecil Ray and Edaline Coulter Smith. She attended schools in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. After graduation, she attended Texas State College for Women for two years and Oklahoma State University for one year where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After marriage she lived in Fort Worth, then moved to San Angelo in 1968. While in San Angelo, she worked at Central National Bank, Eppler, Guerin & Turner and retired from The Principle Securities Group. Barbara was active in the Junior League in Fort Worth and San Angelo, Texas. She especially enjoyed her work with small children. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd as board member of the Vestry and the Altar Society and enjoyed participating in Cursillo and the Saturday Night Worship service. She was a loyal member of the Tom Green County Friends of the Library and always participated in the annual book sales. Johnson's Funeral Home LOUIS BERNARD PETTY Louis Bernard Petty, age 72, of San Angelo, passed from this life on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at his residence. He was born on Nov. 20, 1931, in San Angelo, to John and Kate Menielle Petty. Bernard graduated from San Angelo High School in 1950, where he excelled in football as a receiver and was highly recruited. He played at TAMU before injuries forced him to stop playing. He married La Verne King on Nov. 24, 1956, in San Angelo, and worked in the oilfield industry for two to three years. He ranched in Coke County for eight years. He was a Conoco consignee in Brady for 25 years and was the co-owner of Integrity Systems in Brady for 16 years, before retiring in 1999-2000. They moved back to San Angelo in 2001. While living in Brady, Bernard was active in the community, supporting local athletics, and was a very devoted Christian. Even after moving to San Angelo, Bernard continued to support athletics in Brady and maintained his devotion to his Lord as a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. Pallbearers will be grandsons. ROXIE BIGGERSTAFF ANTLE Mrs. Roxie L. Antle, 87, of San Angelo, Texas, and formerly of Lebanon, Ind., passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Sagecrest Nursing Home. Mrs. Antle was born north of Kirklin in Clinton County, Ind., on Dec. 16, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Oder and Bertha Bogan Gregg. From early childhood, Mrs. Antle lived in the Lebanon community. She was a 1935 graduate of Lebanon High School. She attended Central Business College in Indianapolis. She worked for two periods at the Boone County R.E.M.C. six years after her first husband's death and 1961-84, for a total of almost 29 years. She retired in 1984. Her first marriage was to Howard Mosebaugh on Nov. 30, 1936, and he died on Feb. 1, 1941. She was married to Al Biggerstaff on Oct. 16, 1948, and he died on Feb. 1, 1986. She married on April 3, 1987, in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., to Herman E. Antle. Mr. Antle died on April 22, 1995. Mrs. Antle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed her family, sewing and the activities of the Shrine Horse Patrol, in which Mr. Biggerstaff had been an active participant. She was a member of the Centenary of the Central Christian Church in Lebanon, Lebanon Elks Lodge No. 635, Ulen Country Club and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Moore III on May 4, 1941, in Alamogordo, N.M. Edna was a longtime member of First Christian Church, Las Humana's Study Club, San Angelo Garden Club, Austin Extension Homemakers Club and Concho Valley African Violet Club while active. Johnson's Funeral Home BERNICE MABEL ADELE LUNDQUIST STEBBINS Bernice Mabel Adele Lundquist Stebbins, 101, passed from this life in the assurance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ at the home she shared with her son on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004. Bernice was born on June 2, 1902, in Chicago, Ill., to Charles Arthur Lundquist and Adele Marie Clementine Ditzon Lundquist. She married William Raymond Stebbins on June 12, 1925. Their only child, William Raymond Stebbins Jr., survives her. Her parents, husband and only brother, Chester William Arthur Lundquist, preceded her in death. In her early years, she worked as a secretary in the Chicago area and as a tracking clerk for Marblehead Lime Company during the Depression. Visiting all continents except Antarctica, she devoted much of the rest of her life to travel, art, playing bridge, several organizations at Rio Concho West and especially to her beloved son. In addition, she was a faithful member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church in San Angelo. Johnson's Funeral Home JAMES "DUMPS" WILLIAMS ODESSA - James "Dumps" Williams was born on Oct. 14, 1926, in Bronte, Texas, to Roe and Mae Williams. Dumps passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was 77. Dumps attended schools in Bronte and Colorado City. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1944. After school, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended Sul Ross University where he played basketball. He graduated from Sul Ross in 1950. Mr. Williams accepted a coaching and teaching job with ECISD, where he remained until his retirement in 1985. He coached basketball and taught Texas history at Bowie and Bonham Junior Highs and was known as a Texas history buff. James loved his wife, Gay. They were married in 1955 in Ranger, Texas, and shared 48 wonderful years together. Dumps loved his church, Crescent Park Baptist, where he had been a member since 1958. Through the years, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, department director, trustee, choir member and was a member of the pastoral search committee that brought Dr. Johnny Dickerson to Crescent Park. He had a special heart for church visitation and ministry to the ill and elderly. His ministry will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Gay; two daughters, Rhonda Lough and husband, Shane, of Odessa and Tami Gillum and husband, Jeff, of Waco; three grandchildren who were the love of his life, Shannon Lough, Landon Lough and Samuel Gillum; and a nephew, Tom Williams of Portland, Ore.; many relatives and a host of good friends. Laurie Barker officiating. Ethel was born on March 3, 1905, to Ed and Emma Wilkinson Mears in Menard. She attended Menard schools and graduated from Miss Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas in 1924. She married Roy Spiller in Menard in 1925, and they ranched together for 54 years on their ranch in Kimble County until his death in 1979. She loved ranch life and livestock. She and her sister, Mabel, were in charge of the remuda on the Fort Terrett Ranch in Sutton County when their father had it leased for several years during the early teens. Many times they rode horseback down the River Road to Roosevelt just for a soda pop. She was one of the first Suffolk sheep breeders in Kimble County during the 1940s, and was the first Beefmaster cattle breeder in the county beginning in 1965. Some of the many organizations she was involved in through the years include the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, Cactus Study Club, A&M Mothers Club and the Sew and Sew Club of Cleo. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Junction since 1938. Ethel was a great lover of family, friends, travel and life itself. Whether she was playing solitaire at the ranch, traveling across the world, or helping with goat shearing, Itey (as she was called by her family) always had a good time and was ready for another. Her wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude kept her surrounded by friends and loved ones. She was the heart of her family and will be so greatly missed. Blanche lived for many years with her husband, Albert Zuberbueler, where they ranched in Rocksprings, Sanderson and the Big Bend area. She then taught in a one-room school in Pumpville and as a substitute teacher in Sanderson. In later years, Blanche worked at the Texas-New Mexico Power Company. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanderson for 45 years, where she was the organist and very involved in church activities. She enjoyed a long membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. The Texas library system was a lifelong passion for Blanche. She was a board member of the West Texas Library System in El Paso and the Library Board of Terrell County. She was also a member of the Historical Museum Board of Terrell County. Her other activities included the State Historical Commission and serving as a Texas election judge. For many years, she has organized the annual Old Timer's Meeting on July 4th in Sanderson. She was born in Bellville, Texas, to Walter Chatham and Alma Clark Chatham on July 29, 1907. She married Albert Zuberbueler July 27, 1928 in Bryan, Texas. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband in March 1977 and by her daughter, Tulie Holland in June 1971. Dr. Tatum is survived by his wife, Deanous; a daughter, Regina Deanous Tatum of North Richland Hills and her special friend, Adam Lederhose of North Richland Hills; and a son, Sean Farrand Tatum of Ballinger and his special friend, Brooke Sikes of San Angelo. His aunts, Ivie Garmon, Bernice Embrey and Irene Kendrick, all of San Antonio, Arvena McWilliams of Ballinger, and Bunnah Shaw of Fort Worth, and their families survive. Mickie Bubenik, a sister-in-law, her husband, Larry; and brother-in-law, Mickell Lindemann, all of Ballinger; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and many patients and the people of Ballinger also survive Dr. Tatum. Billy Farrand Tatum was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Farrand Tatum on Jan. 23, 1936, in Ballinger. He married Deanous K. Lindemann on July 24, 1965, in Ballinger. He was preceded in death by both parents. Dr. Tatum graduated from Ballinger High School and the Texas Chiropractic College. Additionally, he attended the University of Texas, Angelo State University and the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He attended other colleges, junior and community colleges and hundreds of seminars in his endeavors to continue his education. Dr. Tatum served in the U.S. Air Force. Although Dr. Tatum had retired from his career love of chiropractic, he was still active in chiropractic as a consultant. Dr. Tatum was a member and elder of the First Christian Church. Dr. Tatum was called "Doc" by some and Bill by others. Whatever anyone called him, "Friend of Ballinger" was probably the most appropriate. A civic-minded person, Dr. Tatum served in many organizations including the Association of Retarded Children and the Masonic Lodge, attaining the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and the Ballinger Community Chest. He was a member of the Junior National Chiropractic Association. As a member of the Texas Chiropractic Association, he held several officer positions. Bill was special assistant to the governor in 1974. He has been included in International Who's Who, Who's Who in Texas and is respected worldwide as a man of high achievement. An actor, a musician, an author, Bill combined his talents for the betterment of the Ballinger Community. He was a member of Parents and Teachers Together and the Ballinger Band Boosters. In the Band Boosters, he served on many committees including ones to purchase new uniforms, build the new concession stand at the football field and to assist the band in raising funds for trips to such places as Disney World. Dr. Tatum was the first chairman of the Texas State Festival of Ethnic Cultures and Arts and Crafts Show held annually in Ballinger. He was on the Bicentennial Committee and the Commission of '76. Bill was the chairman of Ballinger's Texas Sesquicentennial and Ballinger Centennial celebration. He was Ballinger's Outstanding Business of the Year in 2002. Most recently, Bill has been active in turning the Old Jail into the Runnels County Jail House Museum and Fine Arts Center Inc. Robert Massie Funeral Home DOROTHY JANE WAGNER GARDNER AUSTIN - Dorothy Jane Wagner Gardner, age 81, of Austin died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004. She was born June 10, 1922, in Millersview, Texas. She grew up in Millersview and was a member of and baptized in the Baptist Church. She then moved to Austin and met the love of her life, Paul D. Gardner. They married March 9, 1946, and shortly after moved to Europe where Paul served in the Army. After returning from Europe and Paul's retirement from the Army, they visited Fairbanks, Alaska, fell in love with its beauty, and settled there. Dorothy and her husband operated a successful business in Fairbanks and very much enjoyed living there. Their daughter Gari was born there. When Dorothy and Paul returned to Austin to be closer to family, Dorothy began her career with the Internal Revenue Service. She retired from the Criminal Investigations Unit in 1984. Dorothy loved to entertain for family and friends, especially on holidays. Dorothy was an avid gardener and loved all kinds of flowering plants. She also enjoyed dancing, and she and her husband wore out many pairs of dancing shoes. After Paul passed away in 1991, she began attending dances held at the Shoal Creek Senior Citizens Center and the Hancock Recreation Center. She enjoyed both the music and the many friends she made there. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Gari; her sister-in-law, Alma Gardner of Cheyenne, Wyo.; aunt, Oma Lee Nauert of Jonestown, Texas; aunt, Dona Womble of Snyder, Texas; and niece, Margaret Mueller of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and many extended family and friends. After graduation from high school in Sonora, Texas, she moved to San Antonio, Texas. Mary married Robert Raymond Summers of Llano, Texas, on Aug. 21, 1938, in Boerne. They moved to Big Lake, Texas, in 1942 where they managed the San Angelo Telephone Company office and later owned a Red & White Grocery. After moving to Houston in 1952, she worked for American General Insurance and Transco, now known as Williams Company. She managed Nob Hill Duplexes in Kingsland, Texas from 1993 until 1999. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Summers in 1974; her parents; sister, Ella Mae Hill and her husband, Royal D. Hill; brother, Marvin and his wife, Vauneda Barnes; and brother, J. L. Barnes. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carol Summers of Fredericksburg, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill Hearn of Galveston, Texas; granddaughters and spouses, Carol and Ken Scott of Waco, Texas, Kimberly and Joel Hawkins of Dickinson, Texas, Elizabeth and Rich Williamson of Pearland, Texas, Catherine Summers of Fredericksburg, Stacey and Ryan O'Quinn of San Antonio, Texas; niece, Linda Barnes Hooper; and nine great-grandchildren. She was born on Aug. 31, 1931, in Winters, Texas. Survivors are her daughters, Diane Freeman and her husband, Al Hinojosa, of Comstock; Darlene Huckaby and her husband, Doug, of Eldorado, Texas; sons, Ronnie Holman and his wife, Maria, of Del Rio and Donnie Holman and his wife, Mary Ann, of Big Spring, Texas; sister, Jean McCarty of Dallas, Texas; brother, J ames Nugent Sauders Jr. and his wife, Thelma, of Gilbertsville, Ky.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley Morbitzer and her husband, Rodney, of Amarillo, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Cox Memorial Funeral Home February 23 Earl B "Grand Pa" Lankford SAN ANGELO - Earl B "Grand Pa" Lankford, 91, of San Angelo passed away, Friday, February 20, 2004, at a local nursing home. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2004, at the Belvedere Memorial Park with Minister Jim Murphy officiating. Earl was born to Madison Matt Dean and Lillie Mae Lankford on March 27, 1912, at the family home in Comanche County. Earl is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Grace Jewel Farr of 31 years, who died in 1963, a daughter Glenda Ruth Lankford, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Earl worked as a brick mason for 66 years until he retired in 1997. He was also a minister and preached for many years. In 1969 he married Margarita De Leon, they were together 34 years. Grand Pa was the name he went by most of his life, for he was able to see five generations of Lankford's brought into this world. He will be missed by family and friends. Lankford and wife Martha of San Angelo; eighteen grandchildren; twenty nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews Robert Massie Funeral Home Charlie Eugene Wein PECOS - Charlie Eugene Wein, 75, of Pecos, died Saturday February 21, 2004. He was born in Midland, Texas, on May 22, 1928, to George and Viola Wein. They moved to Monahans where they raised their family. Charlie married JoAnn Rick of Monahans. They moved to Pecos in 1962 where Charlie worked for and later owned C & G Electric Refrigeration Service for 30 years. He was in the National Guard for 11 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 55 years. He was preceded in death by his father, George O. Wein; his mother, Viola Wein; his brother, Corbett and his beloved wife, JoAnn. Survivors include his brothers, George and wife, Dorthey of Odessa, David and Christine of Colorado; one sister, Pal Newman of Monahans; four sons, Charlie M. Wein and wife Raynell of Pecos, Paul Wein and wife, Pam of California, Pat Wein and wife, Brenda of Austin, Dean Wein and wife, Jody of La Vaca, Ark.; one daughter Jodee McIver and husband, Randy of Greenwood, Ark.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
