Remembering Go ahead and mention my child, the one that died, you know Don't worry about hurting me further. The depth of the pain doesn't show Don't worry about making me cry. I'm already crying inside. Help me to heal by releasing the tears that I try to hide. I'm hurt when you just keep silent, pretending that she didn't exist. I'd rather you mention my child, knowing that she has been missed. You asked me how I was doing. I say "pretty good" or "fine." But healing is something ongoing. Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes March 13 STANLEY L. PARKER SAN ANGELO - On March 11, 2004, Stanley Lloyd Parker was called to his heavenly home. Born in Hot Springs, South Dakota on December 31, 1929, to Lloyd C. Parker and Emma Ruth Parker. Stan grew up with an appreciation for nature, wildlife and hard work. On April 9, 1954, he married the first love of his life, Melinda Sue Sutton, in Washington, D.C. While he served in the United States Air Force Security Service she kept the home fires burning. Her sudden death in July 1971 caused his return from overseas. After spending many years serving his country in remote areas of the world from the Turkish-Soviet border to the islands of the Aleutian chain, this decorated Cold War veteran was faced with two young sons to raise alone. This was remedied in a couple of years when he met the final love of his life, his special friend for over 30 years, Dora Mae Hendrix. Retiring from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant after 25 years of service, Stan went back to school. To a Bachelor of Arts degree in International studies from the University of Maryland he had earned in 1966, he added BBA degrees from Angelo State in Management and Finance and later a Master of Public Administration degree. In 1981 he began his next career as Veterans Service Officer for Tom Green, Coke and Irion counties. His passion to serve the veterans of these counties and their families was well known. His endeavors in that field were marked by the same diligence and dedication to service that marked his military career. He retired for the last time in 1993 and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He remained active in mind and body to the end. A faithful member of Belmore Baptist Church, Stan loved his Friendship Sunday school class. He enjoyed attending the annual reunions of the Air Force Security Service and delighted in exchanging stories with his Cold war cronies. Devoted to veterans' causes, Stan was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and AmVets and a fixture for many years at Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. Most of all Stan enjoyed being a grandpa and great-grandpa. Always an animal lover, no cat that wandered in or wild bird who flew by went hungry. Stanley is survived by his sons, Paul S. Parker of San Angelo and Wade A. Parker and wife, Michelle, of San Antonio; extended family, Paul and Sharon Hendrix; Jack and Elaine Thormahlen, and Don and Connie Hendrix; grandchildren, Melinda Parker, Paul A. Parker, Ian Allen Parker, Stephanie Martin, Tiffany Gingras, Nicolas Aguirre, Paul Hendrix, Jr., Jett and Michelle Hendrix, Norman and Ina Thormahlen, Allison Thormahlen Herrera, Nathaniel and Zachary Hendrix, Pippa and Bryan Lambert; great-grandchildren Lexi Gingras, Kelsey Hendrix, Angelica Herrera, Jacklynn and Tyler Thormahlen and Lilly and Nathan Lambert. In 1927 the family moved to the oilfields of Crane, Texas, where Bill's father worked for Tidewater Oil Company and his mother ran the Tidewater Boarding House for the company. At first living in a tent, the family moved around Crane to various oilfield camp houses. Starting school in 1932 in Crane, he graduated in 1943 from Crane High School where he played coronet and trumpet in the band. He then attended A&M for one year before entering the U.S. Army through selective service and remained in the army for a 33-year career. Before entering the service, he had attained private licensing as a pilot. In Basic Training he became a field artilleryman. Then, after Field Artillery Air Mechanic course, he attended Field Artillery OCS, graduating in October 1945. After the war was over in both theaters, he went immediately on an occupation tour to Germany where he remained until 1946 at which time he went to Japan and Korea for similar occupation duty. He returned to the States from his first tour in Korea in April 1948. Upon his return, he was assigned to Civilian Components Duty where he was Reserve Affairs Adviser in Midland, Texas. In August 1948 Col. Wright married his first wife, Mary Jo Burk of Snyder, Texas, from whom he would be divorced in 1970. From 1948-51, he was in and out of army schools and flight training. Before he finished Flight School at Waco, Texas, his first son, Charles, was born in Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio in August 1949.
