Lori was born to Carl and Mavis Wolf in Houston, TX, on November 27, 1960. She was raised in Houston, graduating from Spring Woods High School in 1979. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1983 and earned a master's in chemistry from Sam Houston State University in 1985. Lori worked for several years as a forensic chemist in the crime lab of the Pasadena Texas Police Department. Later she worked as a criminalist for the Houston crime lab of the Texas DPS. After her marriage to A.T. Campbell III in 1995, she moved to Austin. There she started working part time at a friend's mystery/science fiction bookstore, Adventures in Crime & Space. The job was supposedly temporary, but she liked bookselling so much that she stayed with the store until it closed its storefront in 2002. She started as a sales clerk and eventually became the store's webmaster and new book buyer. She and her husband relocated to Houston in August 2003 due to her husband's job transfer. Lori loved reading. During college she became involved with Cepheid Variable, the student science fiction club. She continued involvement with the Texas literary communities for the rest of her life. She chaired several literary conventions in Austin, organized the Hugo Awards ceremony at the 1997 World Science Fiction Convention in San Antonio, and also organized the Anthony Awards ceremony at Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention, in Austin in 2002. She was also active in the FACT reading group for many years. She is survived by her husband, A.T. Campbell III of Houston; mother, Mavis Wolf of Brookings, SD; sister, Lisa Wolf (Scott Miller); and nieces and nephews including Susan, Stacy, Beau, Kyle, Cassidy, and Margaret Miller of Brookings, SD. She will be missed by her yellow lab Fred. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10 at Peace Lutheran Church at 10625 RR 620 in Austin, TX. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Gilda's Club, the American Cancer Society, or the Heart of Texas Lab Rescue. The family thanks her many friends for their support during her illness. Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 1/9/2004.
