Wise, Gentle, Courageous, and Patient. He was the founder of a mighty commonwealth. Additional Comments: Notes: Texas Ranger, Conventions of 1832, 1833, and 1835, Republic of Texas Veteran, 1st Secretary of State, Republic of Texas. Austin has War of 1812 and Texas Ranger service insignias near his monument.
