TRINITY COUNTY OBITUARIES Scrapbook Book One Continued Page Two JAMES T. TAYLOR - WAS BORN IN Trinity Co. on December 8, 1870 and died at about 5:26, June 7. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was in the taxi business for 30 years He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bell Taylor, two daughters, Mrs. L. B. Ice of Shreveport and Miss Vannie Taylor of Groveton. Three sons, Harvey and Jimmie of Groveton and Joe Mack of U.S. Navy stationed at San Diego, California, five grandchildren. Two brothers, Tollie and Billie Taylor of Centralia, one sister, Mrs. Marvin Steed of Kennard. Funeral services were held at the residence Friday at 5 p.m. by Rev. Funderburk. LEANDIS LEE - Lonnie Leandis Lee was born in Miss. On October 2, 1868 and died in Angelina County Hospital June 17, 1945 at midnight after a few days illness. He lived in Trinity County until 8 years ago when he moved to Huntington. He was a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. L. L. Lee of Huntington, six daughters: Mrs. Auther Kind and Mrs. Auther Kennedy of Maggee Bend, Miss Bell Lee of Lufkin, Miss Etoile Lee and Mrs. James Jones of Huntington, Mrs. Shelton Fodren of Houston, one son, L. J. Lee of Port Arthur. Four brothers: Wesley of Houston, Chester and Leamon of Creacy and Calvin of Lufkin. One sister, Mrs. E. E. Jordan of Cleveland, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 19 at Bennett Cemetery by Rev. W. S. Moody. Pallbearers were his grandson, Buford Kennedy, James Bradley and R.F. King, Liwnwood Morrison and Morris Lee. Arrangements by Biscamps Funeral Home. BILLY ROSS WOMMACK- Billy Ross Wommack, are 18, died June 30th in Oakland, Calif. He was with the Navy and was enroute home after serving several months in the Pacific but was taken ill with spinal meningitis almost immediately upon arrival in the states. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leeman Wommack of Houston but formerly of Groveton. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Joyce Wommack and one brother, Morris Lee Wommack. (The Groveton News 19 July 1945) GLENN JOHNSON - Glen (Stick Pin) Johnson was born in Groveton Sept 1, 1911 and died at his home in Portland, Oregon on June 23, 1945 after a short illness of pneumonia. Glenn was married only two months ago and was employed in Portland on defense work. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his wife of Portland, his mother, Mrs. Marvin Johnson, one sister, Miss Lola Mae Johnson of Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services were held Sunday July 1 at Glenwood cemetery here by Rev. Funderburk. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. J. W. WHEELER - Joel W. Wheeler, age 69 died June 28, 1945 at 4:30 p.m. in a Port Arthur hospital after suffering a heart attack a few hours earlier. He lived near Groveton until three years ago when he moved to Livingston. He then moved to Livingston. He then moved to Port Arthur 3 months ago. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. W. Wheeler of Port Arthur, two daughters, Miss Nevada Wheeler of the same address and Mrs. D. Suggs of Onalaska. Four sons: Leon of Onalaska, Bryant serving overseas, Elmer and Earle of Port Arthur. Three grandchildren, and two brothers. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Damascus Baptist church in Polk County of which he was a member, by Rev. Woodard, assisted by Rev. Dugger of Pt. Arthur. Arrangements by Biscamps. CLOYD BALLINGER - Word has been received of the death of Cloyd Ballinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Ballinger of Guthrie, Okla. He died June 20, 1945. He formerly lived at Woodlake. Cloyd is survived by two sisters, Mrs. T.P. Ireland of Los Gatos, Calif. Mrs. Robert A. Josserand of Providence, R.I. and two brothers, Archie Ballenger. SN1c, U.S. Navy and Clyde of Guthrie, Okla. WINNIE CHRISTIAN - Miss Winnie Lee Christian was born at Groveton on Nov. 6, 1929. Died on July 5, 1941 at 4 o'clock in St. Joseph Hospital after a major operation, Wed. night. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Christian of Groveton. Three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Blackaby of Houston, Mrs. Donald Campbell of Groveton and Miss Francis Varnell Christian of Groveton. Six brothers: Pvt. E. W. of Presque Isle, Me., Lawson of Houston, Pvt Gray recently returned from five years overseas. Carroll and Obie of Groveton. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery by Rev. Lee, arrangements by Biscamps Funeral Home. WILLIAM BEAN - William Henry Bean, born in Trinity County, July 17, 1892, died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday morning at the residence of his sister, Mrs. S. M. Warren of Apple Springs. Mr. Bean had lived in Trinity County practically all of his life, moving to Houston four years ago. He had been employed at Brown Shipyard for the past few years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Clara Bean of Houston: two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Lockhart of Orange and Miss Zenetta Bean of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. S. M. Warren of Apple Springs, Mrs. J. R. Davidson of Lufkin and Mrs. L. R. Whitaker of Houston: one brother, Taylor Bean of Houston. ZEDICK FANN - Zedick Edward Fann was born in Tyler Co. on July 14, 1874 and died at his home in Corrigan on August 16, 1945 at 1 a.m. after a two-year illness. Eh moved to Corrigan three months ago from Carmona. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Fann, three daughters, Mrs. Geo. White of Texas City, Mrs. Pete Moulder of Corrigan, Mrs. Carl Grisson of La Marque, two sons, Burl & Frank Fann of Carmona, 2 sisters Mrs. Ethel Hafford of Cleveland and Mrs. Eddie Whitehead of Jasper, two brothers, Edgar Fann of Zavalla and Dock Fann. 28 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Chita Cemetery by Rev. Pastille and Rev. Smith of Corrigan. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. MRS. ARCHIE HATHORNE - Mrs. Archie Hathorn, age 34 died at her home here Monday, August 20, 1945 at 11:30 a.m. after a lingering illness. She was a member of the Groveton Baptist Church, having been baptized only a few months ago. She is survived by her husband, Archie Hathorn, one daughter, Maurine, four sons, Junior, Carl, Elvira, one stepson, Olen Hathorn. Her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Luce of Center Point, one sister, Mrs. Lonnie Hathorn of Houston, one brother, Homer Jones of Lufkin. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery at 3 p.m. by Rev. Funderburk. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. TOBE JACKSON- Tobe Jackson, age 70 was found dead in bed Thursday, about 7:30 a.m. by his sister, Mrs. M. E. Dorman. His health had been failing for the past four years and his death was probably due to a heart attack. He is survived by 4 sisters and one brother, hundreds of friends in and around Groveton. Funeral services were held Friday at 4 p.m. by Rev. Funderburk at the Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. CHARLES WITHER - Lovelady, Texas October 9 - Funeral services for Charles Henry Withers 65, retired saw mill employee of a Groveton Lumber Company, were held at the Lovelady Methodist Church Oct. 8 at 3 o'clock p.m. with Rev. Graves officiating Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Della Withers on overseas duty in the Pacific two brothers, Lee and W. J. Withers both of Palestine; three sisters, Mrs. O.F. Cleveland of Palestine, Mrs. J. M. Greer of Fort Worth and Mrs. R. A. Wood of Vidor. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Callaway Funeral Service of Crockett. Pallbearers were James H. Click, Cal Driskell, E. A. Gregg, Grady Stove and Ollie Stansel. HARVEY DAVID LOWE - Harvey David Lowe was born in Sabine Parish, La on December 14, 1882 and died Monday at about 2 p.m. while on the job where he was working on the Trevat Road. The doctor gave the cause as acute heart attack as he only lived less than five minutes after stricken. He came to Trinity County about 17 years ago and is a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate Lowe of Galveston. One daughter, Mrs. Wesley Sonderup of Galveston, one sister Mrs. Julia James of Houston, on son, Wylie Lowe of the U. S. Army overseas, 6 grandchildren, one half brother, Willie Wooley of Erick, Okla. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Bennett Cemetery by Rev. Funderburk. Arrangements by Biscamps. PHOEBE VICKERS - Mrs. Phoebe Catherine Vickers was born July 3, 1858 in Alabama and died at her home at Pennington on October 15, 1945 at 6:10 a.m. after a lingering illness. She came to Texas 49 years ago, living near Pennington all this time. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Misses Phoebe and Lizzie Vickers of Pennington, one son R. H. Vickers of Groveton, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
