TRINITY COUNTY OBITUARIES Scrapbook Book One Continued Page Three MRS. DORA KEEN HARRISON - died at 8 p.m. Friday, October 12, at her home after several months of illness. Funeral services were held at the Groveton Methodist Church Monday, October 15 by the Pastor, Rev. Mouzon Lee, assisted by Rev. Wadsworth of Livingston. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Trinity under the direction of Renfro Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Clayburn Dickey, Ira Collins, Frank Ed White, Sherman Eaves, Dudley Warner and Ernest Terry. Mrs. Harrison was born in Bolds Springs in Polk County, Sept 26, 1878, being 67 years and 16 days old at the time of her death. Survivors are two daughters Alta and Lucille Harrison of Groveton, a son, Ben serving in the U.S. Army enroute home from the ETO, a sister, Mrs. Gid Honsinger of Trinity, three brothers, C. H. Keen of Corpus Christi, Jim Keen of Lufkin and B. L. Keen of Gulfport, Miss., a number of nieces and nephews. The out of town people who attended Mrs. Dora Harrison's funeral were Miss Edna and Alma Dean Wright, MR. and Mrs. C. E. Ross, Mr. and Mrs. H. C Craig of Houston, Z. Foreman and MR. and Mrs. H. Price of Livingston, Mr. John Rogers, MR. and Mrs. R. M. Rogers, Mrs. Cecil Rogers, Mrs. Hattie Hood and Mrs. Wainright of New Willard, Mrs. A. P. Keene and Mucie Bo of Moscow, Mrs. W. C. Sadler and Mrs. Mary Sadler of Huntsville, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Keene of Corpus Christi and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Keene and Mrs. Doris Wier of Lufkin. MRS. J. M. JOHNSON - formerly Miss Virgie Harrott, age 46, Rt 1 Dallas passed away October 29. Survived by her husband, John Marshall Johnson. Three sons, Marshall, Jr., Thomas Lee of Dallas, William Paul in Okinawa. Three brothers W. C. and R. L. Harrott of Dallas, Jodie W. Harrott of Groveton, a stepmother, Mrs. Ocie Harrott of Houston, three half sisters Misses Janie and Laura Harrott of Houston, Mrs. Otis Fannin of Pennington, two half brothers, Carl Harrott of Westville and PFC Eugene D. of the army. Mrs. Johnson was badly burned two months previous to her death by the explosion of an oil stove and never rallied enough to leave the hospital (Newspaper printed Nov. 8, 1945) MR. WILL HATHORN - Mr. Will Hathorn passed away at his home, Wed. Nov 7th after a period of 4 months illness. He was survived by his wife Bertie Hathorn, 4 daughters, Mrs. Archie Luce, Mrs. Garlen Walker, Mrs. Leonard Moses, and Miss Odell Hathorn. 7 sons, Henry, Archie, Lonnie, Lloyd, Jess, Emry and Grover. He has 24 grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Ivy Cemetery at 2:00 Thursday evening. Arrangements were by Biscamps Funeral Home. (Post News - Nov. 8, 1945) W. L. REEVES - W. L. Reeves was born in Robertson County on March 2, 1873 and died at the home of his son, Dewey Reeves at Jasper on Monday, November 12, (1945) at 9 a.m. after an illness of a few hours. He and Mrs. Reeves went to Jasper Sunday for a visit and he became ill a few hours after their arrival. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. W. L. Reeves of Groveton,. 2 sons, Dewey of Jasper, Lloyd of La Porte, 4 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Bennett Cemetery by Rev. Lee, assisted by Rev. Platt. Arrangements by Biscamps Funeral home. CHARLES ALLSBROOK - was born in La on Oct 16, 1872 and died Sat. Dec 15, 1945 at his home at Carmona where he moved to about 6 weeks ago. His wife and 2 sons were away from home and he and his four-year-old son were alone. About noon a neighbor went to this home and was told by the small son that Daddy was dead in the barn. Upon investigation it was found that Mr. Allsbrooks was not dead but only lived about 4 hours longer. A doctor was summoned and he pronounced the cause as apoplexy. The body was very cold, also the son who stood by with his dog was suffering from cold. Mr. Allsbrook was not sick before and has remarked often, recently about how well he felt. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. William Brooks of Carmona, 5 sons, William, Edward, Frank, Sam and Louie of the U. S. Army overseas. Funeral services were held Sun. at 3 p.m. at Corrigan by Rev. Patiees. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. MRS. HENRY ASHWORTH - age 72 died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Joseph Lott at Livingston on Wed. Dec. 11, 1943 at about 11:00 a.m. after a 2 year illness. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, several sons and daughters. Funeral services were held Thursday Mount Zion by Rev. Moody, assisted by Rev. Coffman. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. ALICE DUE CHAPMAN - 4 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chapman died at her home at Crecy on Tuesday November 13, 19845 at about 7 a.m. Besides her parents she is survived by one sister, Dorothy Chapman, 4 half sisters, Mrs. Edward Coslett, Mrs. Aline Burkhart of Muleshoe, Ruth and Patsy Rogers of Muleshoe. 3 half brothers, Atmer Chapman of Groveton, Kelly Chapman of Camp Fannin, Coy Rogers of New Mexico. Funeral (services) were held Wed. at 11 a.m. at Moore Cemetery by Rev. Key. Arrangements by Biscamps Funeral Home. ALTON MINTON - of Diboll was killed Friday at 2:15 p.m in an accident which occurred as he was working at his job of unloading logs from a truck at an unloading camp in Trinity County. Mr. Minton, a resident of Angelina county rot he pass 22 years and employed by the Southern Pine Lumber Company, died when he was hit in the head by a log which rolled from the truck. Minton was born November 10, 1901 in Houston County. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m at Conner Cemetery in Houston County with Rev. Joel Bowman and Rev English officiating. Interment is to follow in Conner Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Jan Minton of Diboll, one daughter, Elouise Minton of Diboll, mother Mrs. Lula Allen of Precilla, three brothers, Louis Minton of Diboll, Ramsey Minton of Diboll and Douglas Minton of Silver City, New Mexico, one sister, Mrs. J. C. Allen of Precilla. Gibson Funeral home in charge of arrangements. MRS. ED MAGEE - age 45 died suddenly at her home at Saron on Sat. Dec., 7, 1945. She had recently undergone an operation but had returned home and it was thought she was doing nicely. She was a very devoted member of the Baptist Church living a true Christian life and she had hundreds of friends who will miss her. She is survived by her husband. Ed Magee, 2 daughters, Merle and Ema Mae of Houston, 4 sons, Herbert, Jack, George and Banks, 1 brother and sisters. Funeral services were held Sun at the Thornton Cemetery at 2 p.m. by Rev. Lee Emmons assisted by Rev. A. L. Henderson. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home. E.T. JONES - father of Mrs. Geo. Russell passed away Monday night at his home in Huntington, with a heart attack. Besides Mrs. Russell he is survived by his wife and 5 sons. Funeral services were held Sunday, his 71st birthday anniversary at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Huntington of which he was a member and deacon. The Rev. F. D. Coppin, pastor conducted the services assisted by the Rev. K.A. Woods of Nacogdoches. Services were delayed several days awaiting arrival of the youngest son from Venezuela, South America. Mr. Jones was well known in Groveton and Trinity Co., having visited Mr. and Mrs. Russell here often. MRS. MINNIE MATILDA HOGG - was born in Henderson Co., Texas on Feb. 15, 1886. She died on Jan. 25, 1946 at 10 a.m. the home of her son, Shirdy Hogg at Houston after a lingering illness. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Lola Hodge of Houston, Mrs. Lorrine Atkinson of Houston, Miss Bessie Lou Hogg of Groveton. Sons: Bill, of Huntington, Roy of Groveton, L.G. and Shirdy of Houston. One brother, Issac Lambright of Lovelady. 13 grandchildren. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Sat. by Rev. Lloyd Williams at Carrol Springs near Athens. Arrangements by Biscamp. T.P. KELLY - J. Thomas Patrick Kelly ate 63, died at Jacksonville Wed about 8 p.m. shortly after the car in which he was riding with his son and daughter in law collided head on with another car in which t others were sent to the hospital. Mr. Kelly was a resident of Trinity but lived in Groveton until 5 years ago. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jesse Slaughter of Trinity and one son Milledge of Trinity. Three sisters and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday at Biscamp Funeral Home by Rev. Webb of Trinity. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Biscamp. (Handwritten note T.P. Kelley died Wed. 23 Jan 1946) CHARLIE WILLIAMS - aged resident of Groveton was found dead in his home where he lived alone, Sunday at 5:15 p.m. by his neighbors when they went over to investigate because of seeing no activity around his place during the day. He seemed to have died suddenly while eating his breakfast Sunday a.m. as part of his food was yet in his mouth and he had fallen from his chair at the end of the table. The coffee pot was burned to a crisp on the oil stove, which had burned itself dry. He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Alvin Haskins of Velasco, one step son Jim Butler of Groveton. Three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Moore Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. Frank Platt. Arrangements by Biscamp Funeral Home.
