I had the pleasure of being at church on yesterday. It was near bed time night before last when I reached James'. I find all well though Martha and her oldest daughter look very bad. I think James will go to Texas next fall if he can sell out. I stayed at Bro. Bens last night, all well except Amanda she had a still born son a few days since and is getting on very well. I shall start tomorrow to wind up my business here that I may return to my beloved home & family. I have taken cold and was very unwell last night, but feel much better to day. I weigh 5 1/2 lbs. lighter than when I left home. My trip on the stage was very rough and unpleasant. I hope to be at home by the 22nd of May. Your affectionate Husband James ****************************** (above letter in possession of Barbara Yancey Dore, Nederland, Tx)
