Well Known Citizen and Former Official Passes Away After Many Months of Illness. Special to The Chronicle. Groveton, Texas, May 4. - George Henry Kirkwood, aged about 50 years, after a lingering illness, died at his residence here Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. He is survived by his father, George Kirkwood of Colmesneil, two sisters, who reside in Houston, besides his wife and four children. Mr. Kirkwood was and had been for a long time one of the foremost citizens of the county, having been sheriff for a number of years and was compelled to abandon the office two years ago on account of his health. He was born in Tyler County, Texas, but removed to Groveton when a young man. His funeral will take place from the family residence at 4 o'clock this afternoon under the auspices of the Woodmen of the World lodge, of which he was a member.
