Brown Cemetery John Bowles Patterson Unknown There is an inscription on John Bowles upright stone (the one my wife is standing by) that says in memory of John Bowles and the other stone is lying flat at the base of the upright one with the inscription again.   So, yes there are two stones and it appears that the one at the base is newer and put there to preserve the wording which is almost worn away on the vertical stone. John Bowles Who was massacred by Indians Oct 28, 1869 Born in Virginia Feb 13, 1802 The inscription at the base of the monument (which says it was put at the cemetery in 1947 by Mr.& Mrs. Traynor of Sabinal) calls this the W.A. Brown Cemetery.  In some literature we found in researching Mr. Bowles,  a great granndson of his stated that Boles was killed by the indians and is buried in a private cemetery he called the "Old Patterson Cemetery " on the  Patterson settlement"   -  perhaps this had been the name for this property in the past. Standing by the tombstone is Gay Luczkowski a descendant of John Bowles
