New Mexico, Parents: Hubert HUME & Pauline (SWINDLE) John William Lee, descends from a Long Line of prominent and established families in the area of Patrick & Henry Counties Virginia. His Maternal Grandmother Virginia Fulkerson's , family was of Norwegian heritage being among the first families to arrive in New Amsterdam, NY in the early 1600's and migrating to the Virginia's and North Carolina along with his other Grandparents, John G.Lee & Susan Frans/France, Virginia Fulkerson was married to Benjamin Frazier/Frashure arriving in the mid to late 1700's. His parents migrated to the Lamar Co., TX area, first shown there on the 1860 Census. His father served in CSA-Daniel's 9th Texas Field Battery from Lamar Co., TX, dying in early 1868, leaving his mother to fend for her young family, she remained in Lamar County until her death in 1906, she is buried in the Faubian Cemetery and his father is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery-both in unmarked graves, both Cemeteries are in Lamar County, TX. We have no history as to why Peter and Ann Mariah migrated from Virginia to Texas, he was a successful Tobacco Farmer in Virginia and both of their parents were wealthy land owners there. John William was the oldest child and along with his 2 surviving brothers Benjamin S/T. and Richard H. Lee, migrated to other areas of TX, OK and Richard's family moved on to Oregon. His sisters, Susan V. Lee Henshaw, Mary Ann (Molly) Lee Cox and Thomas Ella Lee Eaglebarger, remained in the Lamar County Texas area marrying into well established families and raised their children there. There have been many Family stories of a blood relationship to the Robert E Lee family of VA but a DNA Test by one of John William Lee's grandsons proves there is none- in fact there was no relationship to Any of the other LEE Test Subjects participating in the DNA Tests so far. John William Lee lived in Van Zandt County, from the mid 1880's until his death in Oklahoma in 1918-nothing more is known of the location or the cause of his death or where he is buried. He was widowed 3 times and the father of 9 children- he worked in many different occupations-mainly Farming both for himself and as a laborer for others. I have not found any deeds to show that he owned any land in any of the counties he lived in, Collins, Grayson, Kaufman or Van Zandt. His children have all passed on leaving many grandchildren and great grandchildren that can be found from Texas to Minnesota and California to Florida and in most of the states in between.
