Lathem Passes After Long Illness Edward Lee Lathem was born in Sebastopole, Miss., Leake County, on Oct. 20, 1882, and passed from this life on Nov. 8, 1945. He was 63 years and eighteen days old at the time of his passing. Mr. Lathem was united in marriage with Lillie Jane Putman in March of 1908. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1927. Deceased was converted and joined the Presbyterian church in young manhood in Salem, Miss. He moved his membership to Rainey Chapel Congregational Church on Aug. 29, 1925. Surviving are three children, Jim Bob Lathem and Frences Lathem of Edgewood, and Eva Del Dedmon of Wesley, Calif. Two children preceded him in death, Esther and one in infancy. Also surviving him are five grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Willie Brantley, Miss., five brothers, Gene, Sidney, Fastus of Dallas, Marion of Florida and Andrew of Walnut Grove, Miss. Funeral services were held at the Edgewood Methodist Church Monday afternoon with Rev. W. R. Smith of Burke, assisted by Dr. J. W. Loving. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. In charge of arrangements was Newman Bros. Undertakers. Pall bearers were: Glenn and Ray Smith, Greer and Orvil Phillips, Fred Webster, Bill Bishop. The Enterprise extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved. ------------- Bulldogs Entertained The Bulldog gridders were royally entertained one night recently with a squirrel stew at the City Park by Mayor Brandon, Ernest Stewart, Pass Pickens and S. L. Hall – and possibly others The boys reported a very good time, and requested the Enterprise to express their thanks to all these gentlemen who contributed in any way to the “feed.” ------------- Ex-Graduates of E. H. S. Marry The marriage of Flenoy Donnahue and Miss Ruth Durrell, two former graduates of Edgewood High School, took place at the home of Rev. and Mrs. L. D. Scott Sunday, Nov. 4, at 10 a. m., Rev. Scott officiating. The bride wore a blue wedding dress with black and white accessories. She is the daughter of Mrs. B. C. Young of Highland and was employed by East Texas Motor Freight Company in Dallas before her marriage. The Groom is a son of Volley Donnahue of Corpus Christi and worked in the AAA office at Canton before entering the service in 1942. He served three years and three months in North Africa, Palestine, Egypt, Libia, Tunisia, Malta, Italy and Southern France, also serving with the Desert Air Force of the 9th, 15th and 12th Air Forces. He received the European Theater of Operations Ribbon with nine campaign stars, American Theater Ribbon and American Defense Ribbon, and Presidential Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters. The couple spent their honeymoon in East Texas. They plan to make their home in Canton. ------------- Ex-Marine Weds Local Girl The marriage of Elvis Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Moore, and Miss Margaret Jo Robertson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Robertson, took place in Rockwall Wednesday night, Nov. 7, with the Justice of the Peace there performing the ceremony. The bride has been employed in Dallas for several months. She attended school here. The groom recently discharged from the Marine Corps, attended school at Rockwall, later attended Paris Junior College, from where he went into the Marine Carps. He played football in high school, college and two years in the service. The couple are residing in Dallas. ------------- Funeral Services Held Last Week For Mrs. Robinett Mrs. Alma May Simmons Robinett was a native Texan, born in Hopkins County on July 21, 1882. The family to Van Zandt County when she was only a child, locating in this community where she has been a resident for fifty years. She married Dee Robinett on Sept. 21, 1897, to which union seven children were born, two of whom, a son and a daughter, preceded her in death. Surviving her are her husband; three sons, Grady Robinett of the state of Washington, Mike Robinett of California, Weldon Robinett of Navada; two daughters, Mrs. E. T. Pringle of Nebraska, Mrs. Rowena V. Northcutt; seventeen grandchildren; one great- grandchild; two brothers, Melton Simmons and Clem Simmons; one sister, Mrs. Alice Caswell; and other relatives, including a number of neices and nephews. Mrs. Robinett had long been a member of the Church of Christ, always faithful in her attendance upon the services of the Church whenever and wherever possible. Certainly, Van Zandt County never had a better citizen than was Mrs. Robinett. While rearing a large family of her own, she found time to assist the needy in the communities in which she lived. She had been a sufferer for many years, part of the time in a rolling chair, though her faith never faltered. The entire community has been saddened by her passing. Funeral services were held at Morince with Rev. Edd Barrett. officiating.
