S. A. Texas, and lived on a farm near old Bethlehem, now better known as Greenvine, Texas, in Washington County, about seven miles from Grenham, Texas. Here, too, was organized the first German Baptist Church in about 1881. The Rev. William Kiefer was the pastor, and Grandpa Siebel was chosen of of the four deacons and was also selected as the organist for the Church and served all his life through. A revival was held and there were 47 new converts baptized into the Church with a membership of 102. With the Apostle Paul of old we can say, "We have fought a good fight; we have kept the faith; we have run the race; henceforth there is laid up for us a Crown of Righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give to us in that day, and not to us only, but also to all who love His coming." Not long afterward they moved to La Bahia Prairie and bought 116 acres of raw land at 50 cents an acre from a man by the name of William or Bill Wedmeyer. Settled and lived there just prior to the Civil War, in which he served. The became one of the pioneers of the community. This became their permanent home whey the reared a family of twelve children - seven boys and five girls, from which we see this crowd today, as a token of fond remembrance to the community. In 1886, August Siebel organized a La Bahia sing Versein composed of 32 members chosen from the entire community, especially the young folks and usually on October 6, which was named German Day, he held a public singing program at the hall and all enjoyed it very much. He was a fine Christian neighbor. August Siebel died November 28, 1908, and Amalia Siebel died December 3, 1905. A double monument has been erected to their memory over in the La Bahia cemetery, just across the way from here. Peace and sweet rest be to their never forgotten memories. All of the Siebel's family tree have passed on except B. M. better known as Milton Siebel, who is the only one living today. He is now 77 years of age, and lives in Cleburne, Texas. He was the youngest of the family of twelve children, namely: August, Jr died an infant; Albert married Bertha Regien; Gustav married Matilda Kollatt; Ernest married Bertha Nagel; Emma married Gustav Brandes; Charley married Matilda Ramsel; Eliza married J. C. Anderson; Louis married Viola Dierke, and Milton married Laura C Regein.
