BURTON 1835 - 1915 Additional Comments: Born Travis Jefferson Burton on 4 Feb 1835 in Washington County, TX, the 6th of 11 children of John M. Burton (22 Mar 1806 - 1877) and Elizabeth Maury Thomson (3 Jan 1813 - Sep 1871), he married his cousin Amanda Jane Jones (10 Apr 1841 - 11 Mar 1860) on 15 May 1858 in Washington County, TX. They were the parents of William Alexander Burton. He enlised in the Confederate Army in 1862 and served until the close of the war. He was a Captain in Lusk's Company F, 21st Texas Cavalry, commanded by Col. Carter; and served in the same company and regiment with his brother, Jack A. Burton (6 Oct 1840 - 12 Jan 1912). He was promoted by Gen. E. Kirby Smith to 2nd Lt. He died 28 Dec 1915 in Burton and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery near Burton.
