Burton on 6 Oct 1840 in Washington County, TX, one of 11 children born to John M. Burton and Elizabeth Maury Thomson. John Burton was the founder of Burton, TX. Jack enlisted in the Confederate Army at Union Hill, TX, was mustered in on 15 Mar 1862, and served as a private in Company F, 21st Texas Cavalry Regiment (1st Texas Lancers), Confederate States Army. He married Eugenia C. Bryan on 19 Apr 1871 in Washington County and they had two daughters: Jessie and Myra Burton. He died 12 Jan 1912 in Burton and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery with his family.
