Burton, the founder of Burton, TX and Elizabeth Maury Thomson. He enlisted in the Confederate Army at Union Hill, TX and served as a private in Company F of the 21st Texas Cavalry, Capt. D.C. Giddings' Company, First Regiment Carter's Brigade, Mounted Volunteers, CSA. He was mustered in by J.V. Matson, March 15, 1862 and mustered out on October 31, 1863. He married Eugenia C. Bryan (1 Oct 1844 - 15 Jul 1920) and they had two children: Jessie Burton and Myra Burton. He died 12 Jan 1912 and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington Co, TX with his wife.
