TRAVIS J. BURTON
1835-1915

Additional Comments:
Born Travis Jefferson Burton, one of 11 children of John M. Burton, founder of 
Burton, TX and Elizabeth Maury Thomson.  He married 1st 15 May 1858 in 
Washington Co Amanda Jane Jones (10 Apr 1841-11 Mar 1860), daughter of John 
Smith Jones and Mary Ann Lewis. They had one child: William Alexander Burton.  
He married 2nd 8 Dec 1866 in Washington Co Mary Scott McGuire (22 Feb 1845-Oct 
1867); one child: Creola Mary Burton.  He married 3rd 1868 in Washington Co 
Julia McGuire; three children: Milton, Ann and Scottie.  He enlised in the 
Confederate Army in 1862 and served until the close of the war.  He was a 
Captain in Lusk's Company F, 21st Texas Cavalry, commanded by Col. Carter.  He 
was promoted by Gen. E. Kirby Smith to 2nd Lt.  He died 28 Dec 1915 in Burton 
and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Burton, Washington Co, TX.
