Alexandria (VA) Gazette  7 January 1887
Major C. M. Watkins, a leading lawyer of Laredo, Texas, died yesterday. During 
the late civil war Major Watkins was a member of Gen. Magruder's staff, and 
took a distinguished part in the battle of Galveston on January 1, l863, when 
the Harriet Lane was captured.
