C. Watts After a short illness Mrs. J.C. Watts died on last Sunday night at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Mary Virginia Watts, was the wife of Mr. J. C. Watts, to whom she was married about one year ago. She was aged 20, and was the daughter of Captain W. Hawes of Velasco, and was loved and admired by a host of friends. She was loved for her true integrity and womanly virtue, and the shock caused by her death is very seldom occasioned with one so young in years. 'Tis well said that "death loves a shining mark." Grown to beautiful young womanhood, the future before her and her husband was bright, indeed. She was laid to rest in Wharton cemetery Tuesday afternoon, the largest procession ever known in Wharton following her remains to their last resting place. When death overtakes the advanced in age it is recieved with a calmness which is partly born of expectation. When death overtakes the young in the prime of womanhood, with the glorious future opening up to their ideals of ambition and usefullness, it is sad indeed. In this special instance such is more particularly the case. The death of Mrs. Watts has cast a gloom upon the community, whose heartfelt sympathies goe out to the bereaved husband and child, and to her bereaved relatives, left behind to mourn the irreparable loss. She was laid to rest with Catholic obseques, performed by Dr. Valls in the absence of Rev. Father Herson of Victoria who was expected. Mrs. Watts died very suddenly arrousing (sic) about 11 o'clock, she complained of a faintness which affected her heart, and in a very few minutes she had passed beyond the valley of the shadow of death. 'Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." Additional Comments: Following this obituary in the same column is the birth announcement for her daughter, Callie Mae Watts.
