Telephone messages came from all parts of the county from people who had not had an opportunity to sign the petition urging the court to appoint her. No other name was considered by the court and she received the appointment by the unanimous vote. All pledged her their support in carrying out the work that her husband gave his life for - that of preserving law and order and ridding this county of the lawless element that has followed the oil boom. Her chief deputy will be R.H. (Cowboy) Mumford, who was with Mr. Ikard when he lost his life, while Joe McDonald will have charge of the collectorŐs office.
