Sunday following a lengthy illness. He resided at 2130 Fannin Street, where literally thousands of school children and others viewed his collection before it was moved to the museum. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Darrell Robinson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in East View Memorial Park. Mr. Ray was born Oct 30, 1891 in Coryell County, the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. William I. Ray. He came to Vernon in 1925 from Electra. Together with his brothers Earl and ED Ray, he opened the Day and Night Market on Fannin Street, operating it from 1925 until 1950, when he retired. He was married to Ethel Haney in 1935. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. A lifetime member of the Texas Archaeological Society, Mr. Ray received a citation of appreciation for his service as director, trustee and regional vice president of the society from 1951 to 1961. He also received a lifetime membership in the Red River Valley Museum for his outstanding leadership in promoting educational entertainment in the Red River Valley region. During World War I ha served at Ft. Sill, Okla., as a member of the National War Work Council for the YMCA. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Odessa Platt of Ada, Okla.; a grandson, two great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Pall bearers were Curtis Nichols, Carl Flores, M. T.
