TX - Obits from the Vernon Daily Record 4-11-2000 Ida B. Mansell TULIA. Texas (Spl) Ida B. Mansell, 59, sister of Thomas Ellis of CroweIl died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Lubbock. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Ewing officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mansell was born July 6,1910 in Walters, OK. She married Houston Mansell in 1926 in Kress. She grew up in Kress and moved to Tulia in 1955. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Other survivors include a daughter, Minnie Gerdes of Potsboro; five sons, Charles Mansell of Fort Mitchell, Ala., Clarence Mansell and Terry Mansell both of Lubbock, David Mansell of Potsboro and Glynn Mansell of Plainview; a brother. Star Ellis of Las Vegas NV. ; a sister, Jeri Peek of Wichita Falls; 32 grandchildren; 57great grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. R. Owen and Opal McDaniel both of Vernon, died Friday April 7, 2000. Services were held Monday morning in Southwest Church of Christ with Brent Adams and Jerry Lawless officiating. Interment was In Wilbarger Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Sullivan Funeral Home. Johnson was born in Wilbarger County and married Waldon Johnson in Thalia in 1947. She moved from Wilbarger County in the 1970s. She was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband: a son, Terry Johnson of Amarillo; two daughters, Sharon Martin and Alisha Cato both of Amarillo; four other brothers. Roger Owen of Abilene, Neiville Owen of Denton, Dickie Owen of San Angelo, and Duane Owen of Enid, Ok.; two other sisters, Muriel Ford of Casper. Douglas Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Chillicothe Cemetery for former Vernon resident Joel C. Douglas 45, who died Monday, April 17, 2000, in a Fort Worth hospital after a lengthy illness. The Rev. Sterling Lentz will officiate. Arrangements are under direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Douglas was born April 19, 1954, in Vernon, a son of the late Jesse (J.C) and Ethel Levangie Douglas. He attended schools inVernon and Saginaw. Lambert Jr. Former Vernon resident T.F. Lambert, Jr., 78, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas following a lengthy illness. Funeral arrangements are pending at Sullivan Funeral Home. Lambert was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Rayland, a son of the late T.E and Viola Lambert. He married Printes Ashcraft on May 13, 1945 in Lockett. She preceded him in death on June 8,1977. He was a life-long resident of Rayland and was a farmer. Lambert graduated from the Five-in-One High School. Survivors include a daughter, Vandolyn Roszell of Grapevine; a son, T. F. Lambert III of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Nell Cleveland of Denver, CO. and Ruby Lee Spotts of Liberty Hill, TX; two step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. She married Robert L Coffee on April 28, 1954 in Vernon. He preceded her in death in 1972. A 1933 graduate of Vernon High School, she was a seamstress and a member of the First United Methodist Church and Lydia Sunday School Class. Survivors include her daughter, Lea Ellen Lawlis of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Sybil Coffee Grimes of Jasper, TN; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Wilbarger Co. Burket was born Apt ii 19, 1919, in Gracemont, Okla., a daughter of the late Claude L. and Maudie Smith. She married Clifford G. Burket on Nov. 27, 1943, at Sheppard Air Force Base. A resident of Vernon since 1949, she was a homemaker, a reflexologist and the owner of Burket Health Food Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the Grand National Horsemen Association and the International Institute of Reflexology. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Glenda Upton and Dana Bain, both of Vernon; two sisters, Lena Allday of Fort Worth and Lorene Dunn of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren and one greatgrandchiId. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Barney Railsback and the Rev. Royce Mason officiating. Interment will be In Chillicothe Cemetery. Mason was born Aug. 30, 1928, a son of Nannie Bates Mason and the late Carl S. Mason. He married Hazel Railsback on Jan. 15, 1939, in Chillicothe. A law enforcement officer for 38 years, be began his career as a highway patrolman and retired in October of 1993 from the Coffin County Sheriff s Department He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wylie. Surviving are his wife; a son, Nor man Ray Mason of Bryan; a daughter; Patricia Lambert of The Colony; a brother, Arlen Mason of Lubbock; two sisters, Clara Richie of Vernon and Martha Devoll of Grand Prairie; 4 his mother, Nannie Mason Turnbull of Vernon; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment will be under direction of Price Jackson Funeral Home. Sanders was born March 1, 1912, in Quanah. a daughter of the late Frank and Hula Price Easley She married Calvin C. Sanders on March 4, 1942, In Altus OK. and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1983. A resident of Quanah for many years before moving to Fort Worth in 1948. She was a homemaker and a member of Poly United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Surviving are a son, Dale Lanier of Fort Worth, and two granddaughters. TX - Obits from the Vernon Daily Record 4-25-2000 Hazel Bourland Mrs. Ulys (Hazel) Bourland, 82, died Tuesday, April 25,2000. in a Vernon care center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Prince, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in East- view Cemetery. Bourland was born May 30, 1917, in Wilbarger County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie Smith Olive. She married Ulys Bourland on Nov. 6, 1932, at Frederick, Okla., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1985. A lifelong resident of Wilbarger County, she was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Home Demonstration Club and a former member of the Parent-Teacher Association, Surviving are Raymond D. Bourland and J. Terry Bourland, both of Vernon; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral home. Massingill, 75, of Vernon, died Monday, April 24,2000, in a Lubbock hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chuck Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park. Massingill was born March 9,1925, at Gilliland, a son of the late Burr W. and Exssa Groves Massingill. He married Laura Nell Thompson on April 26,1947, in Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Jan. ,1975. A retired postal employee, he was a graduate of Gilliland High School and served in the 81st Infantry Division in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a past master of Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 655.He was also a District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas. Surviving are a son, Larry Massingill of Lubbock; two brothers, Billy Charles (Pete) Massingill of Vernon and Bud Massingill of Haskell; a sister, Lavita (Sis) Burgess of Weinert and two grandsons. TX - Obits from the Vernon Daily Record 4-26-2000 James Neal Williams James Neal Williams, 68, of Coleman, died Monday, April 24, 2000, in a Dallas hospital. He was the father of Janice Williams of Quanah. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman with James Bailey and Harvey McQueen of officiating. Interment will be in Coleman City Cemetery under direction of Henderson Funeral Home. Williams was born in October 1931, in Coleman County. He married Vivian Nealy in December, 1955, in Coleman. A 1949 graduate of Santa Anna High School, he received a bachelors degree from Texas Tech University in 1958 and a masters degree from Sul Ross University in 1962. He taught school for several years before becoming superintendent of Wingate ISD for five years. He later served 16 years as superintendent of Megargel ISD, retiring in 1986. He returned to Coleman at that time. An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association. Also surviving are his wife; two other daughters, Patti Gibson of Olney and Tracy Williams of Seminole; his mother, Gertrude Williams of Coleman; a sister, Wanda Dieterich of Coleman; a brother, Donald Ross Williams of Coleman; and two grandsons. Gray was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Mississippi. A resident of this area all her life, she was retired from North Tens State Hospital where she had worked in security. She was a Methodist and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Raines was born Jan. 20, 1938, in Tolbert, Texas, a daughter of Shellie Naomi Cable Tull Mitchell and the late James L. TuIl. A lifetime resident of Wilbarger County, she was retired from the Vernon campus of North Texas State Hospital. She was Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Rodney R. Raines of Elliott, Texas, and Roger D. Raines of Kingston, Ok.; her mother of Vernon; two sisters, Tommie Wilson of Amarillo and Alice Martin of Arlington, Texas; a brother, James L. Tull of Wichita Falls and a granddaughter. Courtesy of THE VERNON DAILY RECORD ____________________________________________________________________ Rachal Plunkett Coleman PARIS, Texas (Spl) Former Vernon resident Rachal Plunkett Coleman , 81, died on Friday, April 28, 2000, in a Paris hospital Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Ellis officiating. Interment will be in the cemetery in Valliant OK. Coleman was born July 26, 1918, in Baker Springs Ark., a daughter of the late Robert Plunkett and Velma Rhodes Plunkett. She went to school in Plunkettville, OK., graduated from the high school in Smithville, OK. In 1935, and attended Vernon Regional Junior College. She married Alvie Ray Coleman in Smithville on July 28, 1935. She and her husband owned and operated Coleman's Shoe Store for 37 years in Vernon until they retired in 1984. They moved to Paris in 1992 to be closer to the family. Coleman was active in the First Baptist Church in Vernon for 45 years where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. She was also in The Musicians Club and the Community Concerts Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris. Survivors include her husband; a son, Dan R. Coleman of Fort Worth; four sisters, Bertha Martin and Lucille Moyer of Valliant OK., Charlene Herndon of Paris, and Maxine Clement of Carrolton; five brothers, Robert Plunkett of Payson AZ, Doyal Plunkett of Lebanon, OR., John D. Plunkett and Woodrow Plunkett of Paris, and Burl Plunkett of Ada, OK.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dale Coleman, and a brother, Morden Plunkett. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Moyer, Max Mabry, Jor Jarvis, Troy Varner, Richard Moyer and Marty Mabry.
