(Eudale) Oliver A. E. (Eudale) Oliver, 93, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at a local hospital Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Thalia Cemetery. Interment will be under direction of Community Funeral Home. Oliver was born Nov. 20, 1906, in San Saba, Texas, a son of the late Alec and Mollie Shaw Oliver. He married Allie Shultz on Dec. 2,1928, in Thalia. She preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 1997. A self-employed custom harvester, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Co-Workers Sunday School Class and the Happy Hearts. Survivors include three sons, Floyd A. Oliver and Kenneth Ray Oliver, both of Amarillo, and Hilton Leon Oliver of Stamford, Texas; a sister, Anna Lila Vernon of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Madge Reed Luttrell DECATUR, Texas (Spl.) - Former Vernon resident Madge Reed Luttrell died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in a Decatur nursing home. She was the sister of Bill Reed and May Cox, both of Vernon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First United Methodist Church with Rusty Hedges officiating. Interment will be at the Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club, Texas, under direction of Coker Funeral Home. Luttrell was born April 8, 1910, in Mack Community south of Vernon, a daughter of the late Nathan and Minnie Wilkinson Reed. A 1928 graduate of Vernon High School, she married Marvin F. Luttrell on Aug. 7, 1937, in Wichita Falls. He preceded her in death in September of 1999. She was a member of the Decatur chapter of the Order of Eastern Star #543 and the First United Methodist Church. Survivors Include a daughter, Jerilyn Singleton of Decatur; three grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Clarence Reed and Bruce Reed also preceded her in death. Joe Wayne Condren Former Vernon resident Joe Wayne Condren, 57, of Levelland, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. Funeral services were held Monday in George C. Price Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Swart and Keith Cormier officiating. Interment was in City of Levelland Cemetery. Condren was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Vernon, and married Priscilla Tomson on July 7, 1959, in Levelland. A Levelland resident since 1975, when he moved from Lubbock, he had owned and operated the Sonic and the Spot, and had assisted his children in operating the Dairy Mart and Burger Kitchen. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Freddy Condren of Lubbock and Monty Condren of Levelland; a daughter, Darlene Toney of Levelland; a brother, Tommy Condren of Levelland, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Robert Rushing Robert Rushing, 86, of Lake-land, Ga., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his residence. He was the father of Robert Rushing of Vernon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Mud Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery under direction of Lovein Funeral Home of Nashville, Ga. Rushing was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Clinch County, a son of the late Joseph 0. Rushing and Virginia Burkhalter. He married Beulah Lee Woward Rushing, and she preceded him in death in 1982. He was a retired operator of Nashville Ice & Cold Storage Plant and attended Mud Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Also surviving are three daughters, Judy Johnson and Elizabeth Starling, both of Nashville, Ga., and Frances Cannon of Sparks, Ga.; another son, Joseph Rushing of Lakeland; a sister, Kathleen Vickers of Douglas, Ga.; a brother, Clarence Rushing of Donalsonville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Anna Mae Upton Anna Mae Upton, age 91 of Vernon died Sunday at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Jay Hanley, Minister of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of the Community Funeral Home. Mrs. Upton was born August 15, 1909 in Kaufman County, Texas, a daughter of the late James and Minnie Nelson. She married Cecil Upton December 22, 1926 in Kaufman County. He preceded her in death May 18, 1994. She owned and operated Upton Bargain Center and Coffee Shop for many years. She loved to quilt and grew a garden every year. She was a member of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ and a Homemaker. Survivors include four sons, James Cecil and wife, Barbara Upton of Mineral Wells, Texas, Eugene and wife, Donna Upton of Graham, Lonnie and wife, Carolyn Upton of Graham, Larrie Upton of Vernon; four daughters, Frances and husband, William Hancock of Vernon, Anita and husband, Eddie Hall of Friona, Texas, Janie and husband, Bobby Gillespie of Naples, Texas, Mary and husband, Danny Logsdon of Vernon; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson with Dr. David Shawver officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Eastview Cemetery in Vernon. Restland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Sherrill was born Nov. 3, 1908. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson and a founding member of Richardsons Womens Club. Surviving are two sons, Robert Dan Sherrill and Richard Ladd Sherrill; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Bruce Sherrill Jr. Buster Cole Buster Cole, 77, of Goldsmith, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. He was the father of Susie Cole Byars of Vernon. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Midland with the Rev. Tommy Potter officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Cole was born May 24, 1923, in Midland, a son of the late Morgan Edd and Jess May Cole. He married Mary Faye Ingham on Nov. 18, 1950. A third generation rancher, he was an active Hereford and quarter horse breeder and was instrumental in founding the AQHA and NCHA. He served as board chairman for the Sandhills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show and Rodeo for 40 years and was also a strong supporter of the Odessa College rodeo team. He was a certified judge for the AQHA, NCHA, PEBA, PHA and Appaloosa Breeders Association. He was a staff sergeant during World War II in the Quartermaster U.S. Remount Division of the Army, where he also rode thoroughbred jumpers, worked polo ponies and trained mules. He served on the board of the Agriculture and Soil Conservation Service for West Texas and was elected to the Ector County Soil Conservation Service. He was also a director of the Midland National Bank for 17 years. Cole was a recipient of the Stockman of the Month, Farm and Ranch Family of the Month and Family and Heritage awards, as well as the Community Statesman Award for Ranching. The 1990 Sandhills Hereford and Quarter Horse Show was dedicated in his honor. Also surviving are his wife; another daughter, Annie Cole McBride of Flower Mound; three sons, Roy Cole, Ed Cole of Fort Worth and Billy Cole of Goldsmith; and eight grandchildren. Funeral Home. Baldwin was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Vernon, and married Reta Faye Jones on Dec. 24, 1960, in Fort Worth. A resident of Perryton since 1982, when he moved from Snyder, he worked in the oil patch and was a used car dealer and scrap metal dealer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perryton. Surviving are his wife; two sons, James Clyde (Jamey) Baldwin III of Tucson, Ariz., and Carl W. Baldwin of Arlington, Texas; three daughters, Kim L. Baldwin of Portland, Ore., and Letha F. Campbell was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Thomas Roy and Estelle Griffin. She attended Vernon schools and was married to Cal Campbell. A resident of Alaska for 50 years, she was a homemaker. Lorene Anderson Former Wilbarger County resident Lorene "Mimi" Anderson, 90, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at aFort Worth hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at North Richland Hills Baptist Church. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery under direction of Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Anderson was born in Wilbarger County, a granddaughter of the pioneer Luttrell family. She was a 25-year member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church where she was active in the preschool ministry. Surviving are a daughter, Doris Snider of Haltom City; a granddaughter, five great-grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Florida P. Miller Former Vernon resident Florida P. Miller, 93, died Thursday, Oct 5, 2000, in a Fort Worth hospital after a brief illness. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park under direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Miller was born July 14, 1907, in Mexia, a daughter of the late Walter C. Carter Jr. and Harriet Foster Carter. She married Leslie L. Miller. A longtime Vernon resident before moving to Fort Worth in 1996, she was an active member and secretary of Greater Hopewell Church of God in Christ. She was also instrumental in establishing other COGIC congregations in West Texas. Surviving are three daughters, Elise McLennan of Little Rock, Ark., Leslie D. Sims of Dallas and Florida Wiley of Fort Worth; a son,. Robert B. Miller of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Alice C. Harrison was born Dec. 23,1915, in Laflore County, Okla., a daughter of the late Melvin and Meda Sutton Allison. She married Vernon Pearson in 1935 in Atoka, Okla., and he preceded her in death in 1963. She later married Delbert Harrison in 1966 in Vernon. Joe Ben Matthews CHILLICOTHE (Spl.) -Joe Ben Matthews, 77, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in a Chillicothe hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Manard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wallace Clay officiating. Interment will be in Chillicothe Cemetery. Matthews was born June 29, 1923, in Richmond, Va., a son of the late Ben F. and Josephine Bailey Matthews. He and his wife Leona were married June 14, 1958, in Chillicothe. A farmer and rancher, he was also a maintenance worker for West Texas Utilities. He attended the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Anthony Matthews of Vernon Daniel Matthews of Chillicothe and David Matthews of Electra; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He married Barbara Rasberry on Sept. 5, 1970, in Vernon. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, he returned to Vernon in 1979 after retiring as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Oklaunion. Surviving are his wife; a step-son, David Smith of Seattle, Wash; a stepdaughter, Pamela Rasberry of Vernon; and four grandchildren. Hutson was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Bonham, a daughter of the late Madison Joe and Maude Buchanan Morgan. A Vernon resident for most of her life, she was a member of the United Methodist Church. Hansard was born Sept. 4, 1909, in Vernon, a daughter of the late Thomas and Alma Batchelor Lisman Jr. She attended the old Shive School and graduated from Vernon High School in 1922. She married Guy Brent Hansard in 1934 in Vernon. He preceded her in death. A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she retired from the Waggoner National Bank in 1974. Hopkins was born Feb. 4,1942, in DeKalb, Texas, a daughter of the late Herman and Elsie Amos Duncan. A former Burkburnett resident, she had lived in Quanah for eight years. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Surviving are six sisters, Frances Griffin and June Duncan of Quanah, Inez Campbell of Ranger, Utah, Joyce Laycek of Oklahoma City, Barbara Fay Legion of Blossom and Joan Kurkendile of Bowie; a brother, Bobby Duncan of Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church for Gloria Jean Walker, 53, of Quanah, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000. The Rev. Greg Kennedy, the Rev. Jesse Dea and the Rev. Donald Tittle officiated. Interment was in Quanah Memorial Park under direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Walker was born Oct. 26, 1946, in Lubbock, a daughter of Lula Mae Graves Ross and the late L.E. (Lefty) Ross. She married Ronald Walker on Feb. 28, 1966, in Wellington. A resident of Quanah since she was three, she lived in Eldorado, Okla., after her marriage, then returned to Quanah three years ago. She received a bachelor of science degree in management and ethics from Mid American Bible College in Oklahoma City, where she graduated cum laude, and was office manager for Mary Ann Naylor, CPA. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served on the finance committee, and was also a member of the Main Street Project, Dickens Parade Committee and the Quanah and Altus Investment Club. She participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Rick Walker of Quanah and Michael Walker of Edmond, Okla.; a daughter, Jill Walker Roper of Austin; her mother, of Quanah; two brothers, Richard Ross of Quanah and Terry Ross of Killeen; a sister, Brenda Tittle of Daingerfield; and three grandchildren. He was a 1959 graduate of Vernon High School, where he played football and was a member of the FFA. He attended West Texas State College in Canyon. A fireman and dispatcher for the City of Vernon for 16 years, he was a member of the First Baptist Church and the J. Carl Smith Sunday School class. Surviving are his mother, of Vernon; a sister, Judy Tatum of Vernon; two brothers, Don White of San Antonio and Kent White of Bellair, MA.; three nieces and a nephew. He served for 18 months with the Fire Ball Airline, making more than 100 trips to ferry airplanes to overseas battle sites. Following his discharge as a master sergeant in 1945, he began working for Valley Building Supply in Grand Junction, Colo., and retired in 1978 as co-owner of the company. He married the former Ada Louise Burrows in Grand Junction on June 22, 1947. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, a member of the Texas High School Coaching Association and served as team captain for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Lillie Mae Welch CROWELL (Spl.) - Lillie Mae Welch, 85, of Crowell, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in a Crowell nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crowell Cemetery with Leslie Thomas officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home. Welch was born Nov. 26, 1914, in Hampton, Ark. She married Munson Welch on Jan. 19, 1936, in Crowell, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1994. A long-time resident of Crowell, she graduated from Thalia High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crowell, where she served as superintendent of the Sunday school department. Surviving are two sons, Miles Welch of Arlington, Texas, and Phillip Welch of Iowa Park; two sisters, Edna OMary of Fordyce, Ark., and Mildred Green of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Charlie Lett of Arlington; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
