Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas. Tole was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Claude, a daughter of the late Isaac and Josie Griffith. She married Ira M. Tole on Feb. 12, 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1983. A 1929 graduate of North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, she began teaching at Five-In-One School and taught schools for 28 years in Wilbarger and Foard counties prior to her retirement. She lived in Thalia for a number of years, then moved to Vernon, where she resided for 18 years before moving to Dallas eight years ago. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and especially liked to make blackberry and apricot cobblers. Surviving are a son, Jerry Tole of Carrollton; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Anna Mae Klapper QUANAH (Spl.) - Former Hardeman County resident Anna Mae Klapper, 87, of Arlington, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Arlington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cliff Johnson, pastor of Goodlett Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Goodlett Cemetery. Klapper was born Oct. 17, 1912, in Paris, Texas, a daughter of the late George T. and Millie M. Moree Melton. She married Vernon M. Klapper on Oct. 7, 1929, in Hollis, Okla., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1999. A Hardeman County resident for most of her life, she was a homemaker and a former schoolteacher who taught for five years at Lazare. She was a member of Goodlett Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Verna Jo Werner of Arlington; a sister, Veda Melton of Oceanside, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care or Goodlett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Brian Gilmore Former Vernon resident Brian Gilmore, 75, of Lubbock, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Ed Peckham of Agape United Methodist Church and Bishop Whiz Davis of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Gilmore was born June 1, 1925, in Dean Dale, Texas. He married the former Mary Bookout in Vernon on Aug. 12, 1943. A resident of Lubbock since 1951, he received his bachelors and masters degrees from Texas Tech University and was employed by Texas Tech as superintendent of the dairy processing plant until 1981. He later served as a state health inspector for Terry County until 1991, then was a drug and alcohol abuse counselor. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jimmie Dale Gilmore of Austin and Mark William Gilmore of Lubbock; a daughter, Donna Mattison of Lubbock; a brother, Don Gilmore of Vernon; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lubbock or a favorite charity. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Edith Law Vernon resident Edith Law, 73, died on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in Childress. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Monday at the Childress Cemetery, with, the Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Childress officiating Law was born March 6 1927, in Medicine Mound, Texas. She married Raymond Law on June 8, 1946, in Childress. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2000. She worked as a medical lab technician in Conroe, Childress, Floydada and Archer City. She also worked as a nurses aid at Turners Nursing Home for five years. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Catherall of Burkburnett a sister, Clara Lesley of Vernon; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Brad Spears Brad Spears, 16, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in a Wichita Falls hospital. A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ with Jay Hanley, minister, officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home. Spears was born June 27, 1984, in Oklahoma City, a son of Jerry and Ruthie Spears. He was a sophomore at Vernon High School, where he participated in football and basketball and was an honor student. He was a member of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ and the church youth group. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Barry Spears of Yukon, Okla.; and two sisters, April DiCecco of Houston and Anna Spears of Vernon. Johnston, 81, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in a Chillicothe hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services be at 10 a.m. Friday, at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville, Miss. The Rev. Danny Waddell, a nephew, will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Park in Starkville. Local arrangements are under direction of Manard Funeral Home. Johnston was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Houston, Miss., a daughter of the late Newt and Bessie Simmons Thrasher. She married Reynold C. Johnston on Oct. 1, 1939, in Columbus, Miss., and he preceded her in death in April of 1995. A resident of Starkville until May of 1999, when she moved to Chillicothe, she was a homemaker and a member of the Starkville Church of God. Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Clay of Chillicothe and Marsha Regina of Pensacola, Fla.; a son Charlie Johnston of Starkville; three sisters, Margaret Wade and Nancy Bell, both of Starkville, and Jean Hall of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, Charlie Thrasher of Bradley, Miss.; and seven grandchildren. Mabel Theresa Bentilla, 75, of Quanah, died Thursday, Aug. 31,2000, in a Quanah hospital. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at St. Marys Catholic Church with the Rev. Bentilla was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late William and Viola McCormick Farrell. She married Kenneth Bentilla on Aug. 21, 1948, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1986. A resident of Quanah since 1979, when she moved from Illinois, she was a retired sales clerk for the Leader Store and Moses variety store. She was a Catholic. Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Bentilla of Quanah; three sisters, Lucy Suarez of Brooklyn, N.Y., Theresa Fealey of New York City and Catherine Peragine of Snellville, Ga.; and five brothers, William Farrell of Flossmor, Ill., George Farrell of Boca Raton, Fla., James Farrell of Santee, S.C., and Donald Farrell and Lawrence Farrell, both of Englishtown, N.J. Rosie L. Burk Rosie L. Burk, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Vernon after a lengthy illness. Graveside funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Wilbarger Memorial Park with Jay Hanley, minister of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Burk was born May 5, 1922, in Fayette County, a daughter of the late Otto and Frances Anders Koenig. She married Benton L Burk on Nov. 8, 1957, in Wilbarger County, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1991. A resident of Wilbarger County since 1926, she was a sales clerk at Gibsons Discount Center for 18 years. She had also worked at Huies Restaurant for 15 years and Vernon Manufacturing Company for 15 years. She was, a member of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ Surviving are a sister, Adelia Kostenski of Arlington, Texas; a brother, George Koenig of Vernon; two nieces and a nephew. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. W. Wayne Railsback Foard County native W. Wayne. (Boots) Railsback, 74, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. He was a son of Edd Railsback and a brother of Dalton Railsback, Bobby Railsback and Orval Railsback, all of Vernon. Vigil services and rosary win be at 7p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 am. Thursday at St. Asias Catholic Church with the Rev. Phu Phan officiating. Interment will be in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Railsback was born in Margaret and attended school at Thalia. He married Gene Hoff in 1945 at Seguin. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he moved to Amarillo in 1948 and to Canyon in 1978. He was a member of St. Anns Catholic Church and Canyon Country Club where he served on the board of directors. Also surviving are his wife; two daughters, Pam Hall of Amarillo and Mickey Boggess of San Antonio: a son, Ron Railsback of Amarillo: two sisters. Norma June Edwards Norma June Edwards, 61, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, in a Vernon hospital after a lengthy illness. Edwards was born Sept. 26,1938, in Vernon, a daughter of the late Bernie C. and Thelma Lindsey Richards. She married Robert Prince, who preceded her in death in November of 1958. She later married John A. Edwards in 1974. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; a son, Rodney Prince of Vernon; her step-mother, Fern Fenoglio of Vernon; a sister, Bobbie Nell Rutherford of Chicago, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Frank Fenogijo of Quanah and John Fenoglio of Georgetown, Texas; and two grandchildren. Spears, 62, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday; Sept. 6, 2000, in a Wichita Falls hospital. No funeral services will be held. Arrangements are under direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon. Spears, was born Sept. 11, 1937, a son of the late Rufus W. and Vina Sanford Spears. He married Linda Grammer on Nov. 12, 1960, in Chillicothe. A graduate of Chillicothe High School and Baylor University, where he played football, he was a farmer in Hardeman County Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Joycelyn Riley, Mikka Haynes and Lauren Spears, all of Chillicothe; a sister, Dorothy Pannell of Chillicothe; a brother, Tom Spears of Las Cruces, N.M.; and three grandchildren. Verdell McCuen Former Vernon resident Verdell McCuen, 77, of Lubbock, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 10 am. McCuen was born in Bonham and married Lowell McCuen on March 17, 1945, in Vernon. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1994. A Lubbock resident since March of 1997, when she moved from Dallas, she was a retired employee of the Southland Corporation and a member of the First Baptist Church of McKinney and the Nappanee Chapter of Eastern Star in Indiana. Morton was born April 15, 1909, in Tuscola, Texas, a son of the late Charles Washington and Nancy J. Goss Morton. He married Lois Layelle Harrison on Feb. 9, 1933, in Vernon. A retired truck driver, he lived in Vernon from 1946 to 1963, then moved to Fort Worth and Eastland. He returned to Vernon in 1987. He was a member and deacon of Second Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Gene Morton of Vernon and Preston Morton of Shreveport, La.; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Tramzn0ll, a native of Quanah, was a son of Mrs. Leona Scales Trammell and the late Wilson Trammell. He was a graduate of Abilene Christian University and received a Master of Arts degree in English from Hardin-Simmons University. He pastored churches in Texas and retired as director of financial aid for Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. He was also minister of music at New Covenant Community Church. Surviving are his wife, Laura Z. Trammell; two daughters, Sarah Hustwit and Rebekah Trammell, both of Macon, Ga.; a son, Arthur Stowers of Providence, RI.; his mother, of Quanah; and two brothers, Marty Trammell of Vernon and Randy Trammell of Sherman. She married Henry Leo Kidwell in 1938 in Vernon. A resident of Wilbarger County since she was a child, she was a homemaker and a member of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and yard work. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Jackie Johnson of Round Rick and Bonnie Sellari of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Charles Kidwell of Winters; a sister, Bonnie Bell Boyd of Fargo; two brothers, Clois Skipworth of Pasadena, Texas, and Noel Skipworth of Dallas; and four grandchildren. Interment will be in Quanah Memorial Park uinder direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Terrell was born March 25, 1926, in Brookston, Texas, a daughter of the late Isach and Maggie Little Farmer. She married Andrew Jackson Terrell Jr. on Dec. 21, 1947, in Houston, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1999. A resident of Quanah since 1947, she retired as a bookkeeper for Marvin Wells Construction Company and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are a son, David Terrell of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Monnie Downs of Powderly; two brother, Wayne Farmer and Marshall Farmer, both of Paris, Texas: and three grandchildren. He graduated from Irving High School and attended Mountain View College in Dallas. A professional comedian, he was a member of the Actors Guild and formerly owned Cafe on 5 in New York City. He moved to Crowell in 1999 and attended Margaret United Methodist Church, Surviving are his father, Joe Blackburn of Hartford, Conn.; his mother, Icyphene Blackburn of Crowell; two brothers, David of Crowell and Rex of Canyon Lake; and a grandmother, Dora Faye Etter of Crowell. Interment will be under direction of Community Funeral Home. Herrera was born Jan. 11, 1943, in Kennedy, Texas, a son of the late Raymond and Carmen Herrera. He married Frances Perez on Jan. 20, 1969, in Sinton. An employee of the BTR Corporation in Frederick, Okla., for the past nine years, he was a member of the Church of God of the First Born. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Luis Herrera Jr. and Ricky Herrera, both of Vernon; two daughters, Sylvia Herrera and Mary Truly, both of Vernon; five brothers, Pedro (Pete) Herrera and Emilo Herrera, both of Vernon, Matthew Herrera and Lupe Herrera, both of Mathis, and Raymond Herrera of George West; two sisters, Susan Herrera of Alvin and Rosa Olivez of George West; and four grandchildren. Branch was born July 11, 1910, in Freemount, Texas, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hefflefinger. She married Claude Dewey Branch on Oct. 15,1924, in Gainesville, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1980. A Quanah resident for the past 20 years, after moving from New Mexico, she was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are three daughters, Doris Ware of Quanah, Verta Nolen of Electra and Ullian G. Jones of San Angelo; three sons, Raymond D. Branch and Winfred F. Branch, both of Electra, and Ralph Branch of Eunice, N.M.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Dewey Branch in 1983; and three daughters, Nadine Owens in 1974, Frances Whittman in 1981 and Val Jene Martin in 1998. Goldie Pierce Goldie Pierce, 81, of Post, died Sunday, Sept. 10,2000, in a Lubbock medical center. She was a sister of Henry Brisco and Beth Atchley of Crowell. Interment will be in Quanah Memorial Park under direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home. McDaniel was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Gould, Okla., a son of the late Paul and Sally Patrick McDaniel. He married Willie May Little on Jan. 30, 1940, in Mangum, Okla. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had been a Hardeman County resident for 60 years after moving from Oklahoma. Mitchell was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Hardeman County, a son of the late S.N. and Letha Thomas Mitchell Sr. He married Dorotha Mae Green on Aug. 25, 1935, in Hollis, Okla., and she preceded him in death on April 21, 1988. A lifetime resident of Hardeman County, he was a graduate of Quanah High School and attended Oklahoma A&M University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first sergeant in Japan and the Philippines. He was the former manager of Cameron Lumber Company and established Mitchell Hardware in 1948. He was later owner and operator of F&M Tire Company from 1963 until his retirement in 1980. After retiring, he worked for Archer Daniels Midland oil mill. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Quanah Masonic Lodge No. 689. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Mitchell, on July 1, 1996.
